POSTGAME: Practice Match vs Richmond

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Watched the replay when we got home last night went to sleep pretty happy, loved the speed of the game and disposal accuracy at 84% at one stage of the game. Still annoyed by some lose turnovers going forward and a few howlers by the umps but to see Rivers, Sparrow and Bowey take that next step and Chandler, McVee, Laurie and Taj given a run in the ones is very positive. All our stars shone and Grundy and Hunter lived up to the pre-season hype so we are in for one hell of a ride where players will get plenty of opportunities and our stars will be rested adequately to get them to the pointy end of the season in good shape. Now for the Bulldogs at the “G”. Go Dees.!!!!!!!!

Accidentally posted this in the RD 1 pre game thread. Reposting it here.

Max was credited with three goals in the first half yesterday yet I swear I only saw him kick two. One in the first quarter from the goal square and another in the second from a strong mark.

I also recall Spargo kicking three for the match yet he's only credited with two.

According to the timeline on my phone app 'Footyinfo' (which is an excellent app by the way) Gawn kicked his goals  at 8.16 in the first quarter and at 18.02 and 24.08 in the second Q.

I had a quick look on the AFL app and the games can be watched, if you click on "matches" icon. Each individual game has "watch replay" icon on it. The Melbourne game on my app doesn't have a "watch replay" icon, though.

Thanks. I was on the website but will check the app

Insider Tigers told me they want Oliver, Petracca or Sparrow.

They also said they would sell us the Punt Rd Oval for any two of them.

was fairly disappointed in chandlers pre season, minimal scoreboard impact and jusr doesnt have the same buzz around the ball as he should, feel that spot is definitely up for grabs however laurie did nothing to press for it either, really missing bedford early especially with pickett up around the ball now. and spargo and nibbler are very secure in their place in the side as well given the lack of pressure from below. hopefully chandler makes way for fritta sooner rather than later. also BBBs showing was poor i thought

Loved the unpredictable and quick forward movement of the ball. It was poetry

also loved the flat, quick i50 entry kicks that Gawn/BBB could take out in front of them and left little time for the defence to setup.

Feel sorry for those making way for Fritta, Viney and Salem.

It's interesting that you say we looked levels above the tigers - i thought the same in both practice matches, particularly in terms of fitness and condition. Neither tram could go with us late in quarters. By god they look incredibly fit.

I know it was just a practice match but there are troubling signs for Richmond. Reiwoldt, Cotchin and Martin all looked "old and slow". I think they could get away with playing one of them, preferably Martin, but all three in the one team is going to help drive them over the proverbial cliff.

I was so confused with this play.

If the ball hit the post doesn't that make the ball dead, so Max can't take the advantage.

I didn't have any commentary,  so thought the goalie had a "howler".

You’re correct…Chandler should have got a Free for push in back & kicked a goal but the goal umpire erred as it did hit the post & he paid a goal. Max didn’t kick the goal

All excellent points dazzler - agree with all.

You might have noted it elsewhere, but i'm surprised you didn't highlight the how direct we were and how many kicks there were to the corridor (and to to top of the goal square too)

I don't mean that as knock in any way, only that being more aggressive was something you were hoping to see this season IIRC. Adding quality kicks like Hunter and Mcvee, and Bowey in top form, makes the corridor kick a much better percentage play. And against saints it was mainly the better kicks taking it on.

But in this game it seemed to me more players were taking that kick on. With some mixed results it must be said - there were some clangers which resulted in turnovers in the centre square, eg Gus, but the tigers didn't make us pay

Yeah fair point Bin.

It's definitely not lost in my observation of both games. Certainly yesterday I noticed it more. I think a part of my frustration is that we simple direct and straight footy this gives guys like Brown and Gawn who both have that long arm reach.

This plays to their strengths, so let's hopefully sustain it throughout the year with some tweaks in between.

To be fair to the scorers, it is very difficult to tell Maxy & Spargs apart...

Max Is number 11, Spargo number 9. That’s the only way you can tell

No, no, no, Picket! He has to bang the door down. Houses get trained down not banged down.

Sunday morning mixed metaphors vibes  😁

PS: re a live PF training report from Casa De FRITTATA, howsabout Saturday morning while hangovers are being nursed you can write up a report on the back deck? But only if you’re prepared to spend (minimum) two hours or so throwing floaty dog toys into the pool for big ol’ Oscar the pooch to retrieve. Heads up: this dog is indefatigable.

What about an in depth interview featuring Ms Frittata, and your good self on the subject of Decorum, and Enlightenment of two great Damsels on Demonland no holds barred edition for the cultural evocation of those who need some cerebral engagement and lessons of life???

And Ill entertain Fido, never been a dog alive that hasnt taken a shine to "The Fence"

ANB was back to his 2021 form. Great news! He is so important to us.

Implying he had a sub par 2022?

In my opinion, he had a a better 2022 than 2021.

At given the coaches award the votes for the bluey, it appear they agree.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
