The PREGAME Thread will replace the CHANGES Thread and will contain any discussion relating to the next match including Changes, Ticketing & any other related discussion for the upcoming match.

Who comes in and who goes out?

Lever is under an injury cloud. Disco Turner? Tomlinson?

Do we play our best available 23 again or give some of the kids a last shot before Round 1?

Hibbo...

yep, best again

i imagine it'll be a squad of 28 allowed to play?

I don't think it will be our best team. It wasn't last year, or the year before.

In both years we had our best 22 on the first practice match.

Unless there are injuries I suspect we saw the round one team today (with the exception of jvr).

Melksham might be an in perhaps.but Chandler would probably have to come out, and I'd prefer Chandler.

Hopefully those who were watching today play next week

If Lever is out then I would like to see Disco. Plays more like Lever than Hibberd does.

I can't believe you mentioned Tomlinson woeful performance today.

Will be interesting if Jacob van Rooyen plays, especially as he may have possibly injured his hamstring?

Fingers crossed I am wrong on that.

If they lose, will their members be microwaving the membership before the season starts I wonder 🤔🫢

Can someone please confirm the ticketing situation for this game. I thought I read free entry but, if so, I assume you would need to get there pretty early before thousands of Richmond fans descend on the ground.

Jason Castagna wont be playing, as the 26 year old surprisingly retired from AFL football, effective immediately.

Ffrom the AFL site it is free entry. Doubt the Tigers fans will descend on Casey. They have no money for petrol !

No one can afford petrol!

Or food... Or electricity or gas or their mortgage...

Sheesh,  only 26? Felt like he was around for decades, good on him though. Triple premiership player in 100 odd games.

This recent incident on the rub down bench convinced him it was time to call it quits.

I'll be making the relatively short journey to watch this game.

Anyone know if they stand will be available or will it just be standing only?

He’s quitting football to become a tattooist. True story.

And don’t forget the picket (or wire) fence will protect our sacred site.

will you be armed to the teeth to repel those hordes. ?

I read a snippet in the herald sun that we will be putting put a younger squad then what we had against the Saints.

Did anyone else see this??

He's no Ian Ridley but that's a pretty good run.

I never picked him as being unusually wise but you have to give him credit for getting off the Titanic at Cherbourg.

I’d like to see Judd McVee back up his good game against the Saints

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
