‘Founding tenant’…

Imagine the look of MFC people when the ‘founding tenant’ announced itself…

Collingwood going for a weekend away “I claim this B&B as the founding tenant!”

Collingwood arriving in Jan 26, 1788 in Botany Bay “I claim this land as the founding tenant!”

Oooh, see what I did there…

  • Demonland changed the title to Rival clubs fume at Collingwood’s hold on MCG seats

‘Founding tenant’ - first uninvited guest.  Like the cane toad was the founding tenant of the QLD cane fields.

GFY Kelly, Melbourne FC are the original and only true team of the MCG.

Before the administrators reworked it my headline was "what is this clown drinking?' but you've nailed it with the toad!

To be honest it irks me more that they never have to head down the Geelong Road to Mordor - EVER !

What a joke the AFL fixture is year after year

No they were the first. We are not a tenant, we are the home club. The rest are tenants.

As Melbourne fans, we must never forget that Eddie allowed us to have Queens Birthday as our home game for 15 years.

As for the Ponsford agreement, its BS if you're richmond because they have reserved seat areas level 2 Ponsford.

For us, its really irrelevant, we might have 500 people that sit in the Ponsford so it is just about whether they should be paying to get in.

And the whole thing with changerooms is pretty irrelevant too, pretty sure we are happy to run out the mcc race as an away team.

We are the MCG.

The delusion and Arrogance from Craig Kelly is at unmeasurable levels with these comments.

FMS!

Honestly, asides from the Collingwood arrogance about this issue, I'm not really that bothered as it hardly impacts me and I suspect it doesn't really impact our members.

The bigger issue for me is how the MFC has decided to manage it's allocation of seating during our home games.  I resent that the club took away the premium seating area on the wing/half forward ground level of the Northern Stand which use to be the MFC members ' Red Seats ' area open to all MFC members and made it into an exclusive MFC reserve seating area.  I get the finacial imperatives the club operates under, but I actually think this move was somewhat corrosive to the fabric of the club from a supporters perspective.

I reestablished my MFC membership since around 2011 back when we were rubbish, so think I hace contributed reasonablely to the club over recient history.

The way the MFC reserve seat area on the wing is managed is [censored]:

1. For a family it would cost me excessively for everyone to purchase reserve seats in the area;

2.  Even if I could afford it, it's difficult to get enough seats in a block together and almost impossible to also be allocated next to/near my old man's reserved seat in this area;

3.  The other issue with perminantly reserved seats is that when people don't rock up, they go vacant, per the Collingwood home game issue.  Having vacant seats in premium viewing positions is bad business and bad for footy culture in my view and bring a real finacial eliteisim to the game that erodes it.

Please bring back the old MFC members Red Seat area (Even if they are now grey!).  Perhaps Kate can champion that cause for the average MFC punter.

it's not worth arguing, however i think you'll find that technically the mfc is defined as a tenant club of the mcg

i could provide links but it's not worth getting into a drawn out argument

We must never forget that Eddie allowed us to have the QB home game AFTER the MCC rolled over for him with the deal that the Ponsford Stand would be the Pie social club at home and away games. Not so generous as it might first seem.

And then, when we started pulling a crowd he wanted the home status to alternate between us.

I don't have any problem with that. He helped when we needed it most.

Obviously it's rough for anyone who has reserve seats in the Ponsford. But largely I do like the idea of keeping most of the ferals in the same spot.

Ideally just wall off the Ponsford stand  and AFL members for Melb v Coll games and don't let any of them in the rest of the ground.

I hate the filth .... tripplechins .... joffa ....  buckley  ...  their feral supporters  ...  et al.

I actually met Buckley at the show "best on ground" and he was quite a nice bloke, had a lot more time for us than Roo did.

Also met the one and only Russell Robbo Robertson that night too which was awesome!

Or Duck Dodgers claiming this planet in the name of the Earth. Then seconds later Marvin the Martian arrives and "claiming this planet in the name of Mars, isn't that lovely?"

I thought Carlton were the "founding tenant" football club in 1885 at the MCG as the MCC had MFC playing next door at an oval in Yarra Park at the time? I think MFC started using the MCG as a home ground in 1890? I think CFC started playing at Princes Park in 1897 when the VFL commenced.

Anyone have any authoritative sources on this opaque period of MCG tenancy history?

Anyways, Collingwood are definitely late comers to the MCG.

The filth are a disgrace.

There is only one club as the owner of the MCG and that is the MFC. The rest of them can go and get stuffed.

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT IT ALSO MEANT ANOTHER GUARANTEED WEEK DURING THE SEASON WHERE COLLINGWOOD DINT HAVE TO TRAVEL. AT THEIR HOME GROUND IN FRONT OF THEIR HOME CROWD IN THEIR PRE PAID SEATS. CLUB DIDNT LOSE A THING, AND ADRE I SAY IT, WE DIDNT MAKE THAT MUCH BECAUSE OF IT

Collingwood can afford to be arrogant and always get what they want. They have a massive following due to bogans having lots of kids.

Collingwood would fill a stadium in the African Congo if they were scheduled there.

They'll pull 80,000 R1 against the spoilt kittens.  Geelong supporters may not even turn up but the pies will.

Melb v Bulldogs  maybe 45k mostly dees supporters. Doubt if their supporters will turn up in numbers.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
