What’s your proposal?

If Joel Smith has a decent game tomorrow get him in

Right - I'm going to watch the second half of the Deez and the Blues. I'll come back to the convo about this game in an hour or so.

2 carlton supporting morons sitting next to me keep asking, "where are all your supporters?" and one even just made a joke about the Snow

I was like "Mate, you realise your season is hanging by a thread here right?"

Saad definitely looks sore - maybe ribs or something.

Fritsch and Melk need to start leading. With no movement, the only option for our midfield is to aim long for BBB who is surrounded by 3 defenders. And one of Spargo and Kozzie needs to rove the back of the pack where Saad is floating unattended.

I’d just go all chips in on Weid for the last few weeks. Brown isn’t the answer. Him making a contest but winning the ground ball is mutually exclusive. Never seen a worser a player when the ball hits the ground.

We just look slow. In all aspects: Running, reaction time, seeing options. When we won the flag we looked a step ahead of the game and right now it looks like everything is coming from sheer hard work. There are some crappy games on the board from most of our players, at this stage I'd only be giving Gus votes.

How do we get Brown into the game? Gonna be hard considering he's always taking the best defender right now. Need to kick to space and run onto it I think. I don't know, it's a tough one

We need to play on instinct, first option is best. We also need a couple of goals early and the confidence will rise. We are probably not going to hit the form we would like to in this match but we need to squeeze out the win. That is pretty much it. My god we just need the win, please just win it.

Can’t do any worse than BB at the moment.

Brown has been crunched by 2 or 3 defenders in about 20 contests

If we're continually going to bomb fwd, someone has to do that job

Hope we don't fade out we're not far enough in front.

Oh the irony if Weid were to lead us to the flag 😆

13, our 4th highest.

But most ineffective.

Brown playing on Young and not taking a mark is a huge worry, he's got him for height, weight, leap and experience, and he's just had a couple of weeks off. there really isn't much excuse for him

I can’t stand our coaching anymore. Even if we win this, bombing long to small forwards like Spargo, with McGovern on him is bloody madness. Kick it low or wide to space.

We don’t adapt to our selected side at all.

Our handball turnovers must be a world record.

Our disposal is garbage.

We are not a shadow of last year’s side the way we are playing.

Eight minutes left in the second qtr and I watched us switch sides across half back for what seemed like the first time in weeks.

We raced forward and then fluffed it.

I wish we'd had the courage and dare we used to have to switch and run it through the guts quickly.

We seem a shadow of last year's side

The pre game tension headaches are back and slowly building during the game to fever pitch. Comeon boys give us a break for the love of god.🙏👍👌🤘

So many experts on here can't see he's continually bringing the ball to the ground. Has he been outmarked yet?

He needs to run and jump at the ball to be effective. Kicks in need to be up in the air sure, just not into outer space before coming down. As @Bitter but optimisticalways says, a little extra penetration never hurt anyone

Spagbol has time and space with ball in hand, he needs to park his ar$e at the fall of the ball

Geez I’d love to see a Dees player storm out and take a grab like McKay

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
