I commented earlier this year when we were winning home games how eerily quiet our crowd was.

Can't recall us ever being as quiet in 50 plus years of supporting

We were spoiled by what happened in Finals last year & it's tainted our expectations. We came in this year believing the hype and genuinely believing that we would beat most teams by 100 points every week. When we struggle through and win by 20, even going 10-0, a lot of us were disappointed. The reaction on here was testament to that.

Noise & passion is based on how performance compares to expectation; when we had nothing to lose in 2018 & were dreaming of a flag run, we were raucous.

The Pies didnt expect to be where they are & they're riding the wave. They're raucous (moreso than usual).

The other key driver of noise & passion is demographic. I've covered this before but put simply - footy means more to those with less. It's a weekly highlight (for many, the key highlight) & an escape from the daily pressures. You can see this at Pies games, Blues games & Tigers games - there are swathes of grown men who rock up in pilly trackies, a 1999 bomber jacket & are incredibly vocal. You get the impression the footy is their key weekly outing.

It's a cliche but our more affluent supporter base results in less passion - put simply, they've got a lot of other things to do.

We on this forum aren't the problem & by definition have some fanaticism.

Covered it well there. If the the team needs us to be like the pies supporters we are doomed to failure.

My family can’t make it this week so all attending will have to ratchet it up a bit throw in some swear words, point out any unfair treatment and give the Magoos hell whenever they make a wrong call. I was a bit subdued at the Alice game but had no trouble finding it Friday night. Go Dees.!!!

A quick heads up to anyone reserving MCC seats.

The sign on Ticketek saying that reserved seating in the MCC is sold out is a lie.

It was meant for the Carlton Collingwood game but the idiots put it up on ours.

Plenty availability still.

More ticketek rubbish.

Exactly, because also by being on this forum we've shown that we all clearly don't have other things to do 😛

Reduce your membership level next year to general membership.  If we make the finals you still can access tickets. If we make it to the GF I reckon most of you would be in a financial position  and have connections to snag a corporate package (use some of the funds you saved by buying a lower membership).

You could also buy a general membership with the GFG added on as many do. On the issue of reserved seat holders not turning up, why isn't there a system where the seat holder can sell it to the ticket provider or a third party who can then on sell the ticket? I know this happens with sports in Europe and North America.

Seems I have a few GA passes left on my membership, i'm going this week with a mate in the MCC so these will go to waste unless anyone has interest in them. Chuck a DM if interested

With Carlton supporters going full doom and gloom mode, you'd imagine this crowd won't be as big as it was looking like it was going to be a month ago. There's also afternoon and evening rain predicted.

I'm expecting low 50's.

On a side note, it would be lovely to finally see a win live after attending the Geelong, Dogs and Pies losses recently.

If we lose it would be the first time since 2014 (2020 aside) that we've lost every Victorian game from round 16 onwards in a given season.

Offered my Carlton mate a free ticket and he declined, said the season was over after the loss to the crows.

So premium seats are now only an issue since we found some success. So for all the years prior to 2021 we couldn’t sell all the premium packages and the ones who did have them were putting extra $ into the clubs coffers. So I moved up to the country last year and I don’t get to as many games as I like, especially night games, but there is no way I’m giving up the seat I have been paying for for years (even when we weren’t going so well)

Ftb what's the crowd going to be this week? Or is it too early to tell?

Yep the blue baggers supporters will definately not show up as might have expected a month ago. I've got two mates who where talking up this game big time 5-6 weeks ago , different friendship groups both not going now

considerably less reserved seats sold compared to last week.

Looks quite similar to Round 1, probably a bit under that because of MCC sales.

I think somewhere between 48-55, would be nice to hit 60 but I think that is unlikely.

You are making assumptions about who buys a premium membership each year. You are also making assumptions about why people choose to have a reserved seat. I don’t have connections to buy a corporate package and I would suggest many others don’t either.

you couldn't but any ticket with a reserved seat this year, without having to also take the gfg.  no choice.

Interesting. Thanks ftb. Also looks like a bit of rain in the arvo/evening which seems to deter some people.

Fair points. I was just expressing my frustration at what to me appears to be a supporter base that has more than its average of fair weather supporters.
My hope being that these supporters whilst at home (presumably at the very least watching our boys perform on tv) also then take the time to breed the next generation of supporters who will rebel and do the opposite of what their parents did. I am joking of course……okay, maybe just half joking.

As repeated over and over, Melbourne has high fan to attendance and fan to membership ratios. We are not, and never have been, a fair weather supporter group. What you in fact asking for, is for us to be more fair weather - higher attendances in a post-flag year where we are in premiership contention again. And you can bet your bottom dollar we'd be accused of being fair weather had our attendances skyrocketed this year.

MFC have just put out a response to members concerns about oppo supporters sitting in our dedicated seating area’s. It is requesting members not to transfer seats to non MFC patrons but I haven’t witnessed any non MFC patrons being challenged by MCC staff.!!

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
