Cometh the hour, cometh the Weideman.

No pressure but it’s Sam’s time to shine at night again, as he once did.

It would be dee-lightful, but with Sam, it just sadly ain't gonna happen. Wasted jumper. Put Petty forward until JSmith is ready to play after injuries.

Just win please. Season on the line for the doggies so it won't be easy.

Predicting Clarry BOG (because he's a beast)

Hoping to read positive comments about the Weid in the gameday thread during the game. We're all willing you on Sammy

Dees by 15pts

Relieved (and happily surprised)  to say I made it back, apart from a few “lost days”, relatively unscathed from Bangkok.

I spent  a fascinating few days there, watching @Sir Why You Little ( the Buddha of Soi 4) hold court under the verandah of a local hotel, surrounded by his adoring acolytes. All the while wearing a premiership jumper and swilling whisky!

His acolytes BTW are best described as a ‘colourful” group possibly sharing ….err…. err ….well … let’s say common pursuits.

Now to avoid possible lawsuits , I’d best get to the footy.

We must win - simple as that.

Weid gets another chance - good luck to him. Milkshake also has a chance to cement his place, so he will be desperate .

Expect Clarrie to run through brick walls. Another blinder from Kozzie  would be handy.

Dees by 29 points.

I feel tonight will be either Weids final dance for the Dees or he will cement himself in the side for the rest of the year. Does not need to kick a bag just create movement, demand the ball on the lead and win/halve aerial contests. I still believe a quality forward role is within him it just needs to be unlocked. No Daniels to slice us up from half back will make for a nice change. Our mids including  Gawn need to get back to owning the stoppage and what better way than against the dogs.

I’ve been a Weid knocker but I hope he absolutely smashes it today. Only a few games till finals. This is his chance to keep his spot.

Spot on D35.  This could be Weid's  Jayden Hunt/Jake Bowey moment like 2021.

Hunt injured same time last year ,sort of. Bowey in and makes it impossible for the MC to drop him in remaining games and finals.

This is Weid's last chance and will get him into finals glory or at least contention if he can keep contributing - but not if today doesn't work.

I hope he understands the opportunity the football gods (and BBB's knee) has given him for tonight.

DON'T WASTE THIS SAM - FOR ALL OUR SAKES.

Annnnnnd nearly every comment is about a depth forward brought in as a late change...

All this 'time to shine' 'last chance' 'make or break' kind of commentary is just over the top, which is what we've probably come to expect with commentary around Weideman. He won't win or lose us the game, just needs to contribute to the forward line in a comparative way to the coach's expectations and role.

Need to get our clearance quality consistent now as we head into finals, it's been a bit up and down all year and IMO will be one of the keys to the game tonight. Been loving what seems to be some new aspects to Kozzy's role too, been given more space to be an attacking forward and he's been sensational, would expect that again tonight so if Spargo and ANB can lift their delivery I reckon we could actually kick a decent score even without Brown and TMac.

As a side note, given the stakes for both teams it could also show us how genuine this 'animosity' the media have driven is between the two clubs.

Not confident BBB probably played his best game for the year, big hole to fill. Dogs playing for their season. Be up for it Dees.

Tough game, and a huge effort from the boys if we can get up.  Our team defence will need to be at its very best, because it’s hard to see us mustering a large score.
Predictions:
* Dees to make a (mini) statement with a 9 point win;
* Clarrie to make up for lost time with yet another ‘best on’ performance;
woe be betide any dog who happens into Jack Viney’s path;
* the Skipper to snag 3

How boring. Like clockwork, you run out the defend Weideman diatribe at every opportunity. You are no better than the other commentary your crusade against.

I hope Sam has a great game because my faith in Brown is almost comparatively low.

Not defending him at all. I think he's an average player whose spot on the list is as a depth forward when needed. He possibly might even be traded this year. I just think the expectations are out of wack for him which means the criticisms are overboard.

It'll be concerning if we there are any large discrepancies in stats again favouring the dogs.

I expect all our 'phases' to be at a good level. We've had enough time to 'work' on forward connection, centre bounce clearance and converting opportunities.

As a premiership team, we should be humming right now and we're not.

Time is running out for flicking the switch and as history suggests. The teams that win the flag always have their game in order with five rounds to go.

We need form and momentum and I'm hoping to see a finals like Melbourne side attack this game with a similar attack from our coaches on their plan.

Anything less will be extremely disappointing. Consolidate our spot as equal top of the ladder.

Get it done dee's.

With Clarry and Petty back, we are full strength in middle and down back, the two foundations of our game, and as a result there will be periods where we can play the game in our forward half.

Doggies are on the ropes, pressure high, season on the line… must win. They, more than we, need to recapture form and find another gear.

This is the perfect game for us, expecting an arm wrestle for a half as we grind through everything they throw at us, before breaking them (again) in the third.

Demons by 10+ goals, statement made.

Dogs seem to be playing ordinary games. Hopefully we can push them in that way and not give them a sniff.

Expect our wingers to continue the good work they have been doing. They have been a needed part to our winning ways.

Expecting a big game from Tracc.

Hope the umpires protect Clarry and stop the opposition from wacking his hand. The same with the back of Max's head.

Go Dees

Just win Dees. Gawn Jackson, Salem, May to regain top form.

They are really important if we are to become the rolls royce again.

Jackson's drop in form is a worry. Fumbly, being rushed, not getting enough touches.

Hope the four of them turn it around, though Gawn and Salem have been OK.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
