Mate...there's  lots of garbage out there... written about clubs. Is that the basis for republishing  it here... just because it's  there ??

A lot doesn't even pass the pub test.

Just seeing that Game Friday Night gave me distinct impression Max was a man on a mission.

Grundy in that game would not have worked against the one pure ruck they had.

We move on to where the PTB  think it is going to work.

and by the way Freo says hello and "ours with lesser ruck players isn't working, so there"

Thanks.

Don't understand why certain people get so worked up when there's an article posted whether it's negative or positive.

The report from Ch 7 that the Collingwood salary subsidy was only payable if he played for MFC is worrying if true.

Substantially reduces the benefit and viability of a trade

I think you’ve got to balance what’s in that article with the fact that Tom Browne is one of the [redacted] [redacted] in an industry populated almost exclusively by [redacted] [redacted].

The other salient point is that they’re all making up this idea that we have to trade him - says who?

Bucks is keen to talk all this rubbish up cos how embarrassing would it be for the infallible, incredible all singing all dancing Magpies to be paying $300k of the salary of a player who wins a flag at another club? Oops!

They just want to make sure Max doesn't miss out on his AA guernsey.  He'll lock that away the next few weeks while Grundy is in the VFL working on forward craft - and then they'll play together in the finals.

I can't see Maxy getting an AA gig this season unless he plays like he did on Friday night for the remaining 6 games and even then he might only make the squad.

I reckon there's a 5% chance he gets traded this year. A small chance but still a chance.

I think it's important to note that Round 2 we probably had our fittest forward line and named Brown, McDonald, Fristch, Gawn and Grundy. Everyone knew heading into last year and this year we were short a key forward and Tmac and Brown were running on fumes, but you can't conjure a key forward from thin air just because you need one. I think McStay was the only one on the market last year?

Goodwin was probably hoping Fristch, Gawn and Pickett would be serious threats while some combination of Brown, Tmac, and an up and coming Van Roo (possibly Sache for one or two games) would just play their role throughout the season.  Grundy would be the ruck and then has a rest in the forward line just to keep the headaches coming for the opposition. The fact that Brown, Tmac, Fristch and Petty have often been injured, and Gawn hasn't looked as threatening as last year up forward means it never got off the ground. I don't think a plan like that is ideal for winning a premiership but seemed the best option given the circumstances.

Just seems like Grundy is being asked to try and be a bit more of a threat come finals because the plan didn't work the way we'd hoped. Not ideal to drop an All Australian ruck but doubt anyone at the club is asking him to be Jeremy Cameron and it's better than doing nothing.

Also with Gawns age and the amount he gets beat up every game it seem unlikely he gives us a big finals campaign unless Grundy has played serious minutes in the ruck throughout the year.

I didnt hear it myself, but was just told he was on the radio saying he is happy to be traded at the end of the year.

Is there any other ruckman going around who can win a game like Maxie did last week?

Whilst he might not have had the minutes in the ruck throughout the year, and missed some games, he is still, by far, when on song, the most dominant ruckman of this era and deserves to be AA no matter how little he has played as a pure ruckman.

Sorry - my comment was more of a joke than actually thinking he'd be in contention for an AA.  But yes if he played like that the next 6 games then I guess he could be a shot.

We beat the Pies, the supposed best team in it with both Gawn and Grundy. It can work they need to tweak it. I’m confident they’ve got a plan for finals

I am not sure what’s changed since last few years that has the media & our FD thinking that we have to convert Grundy into a gun forward or he moves on or plays VFL.  We played both Max and Jackson in the team in 21&22 with Max doing the bulk of the ruck and Jackson more time forward where he was OK without dominating as a forward, he was a not contested marking beast. Jackson kicked 30 goals in 52 games. I note Grundy has kicked 9 in 13 games, similar return. Both LJ and BG are very mobile for their size and cover the ground well so not sure what is different this year, that we can’t run BG in the LJ role, perhaps with agreement Max takes 70% of the ruck duties.

We know the forward line has been a shambles this season (but so has the delivery into it)so something had to change. I wonder if the loss of Fritsch, decision to drop Smith and the recall of BBB has convinced the coaches they can’t run such a top heavy forward line?

where there is smoke there's fire. these rumblings rarely don't occur as they've reported.

will be paying 50% of his salary at another club next year.

More chance of me playing for the Dees this week than that happening:

So Grundy gets demoted for one week to the twos and the media imeediatley start to make the call he's being traded again - talk about knee jerk reactions and rumor mungering.  If it goes on for the rest of the season and Grundy doesn't play another game, this season (including finals), then I could understand the trade rumors.

Grundy and Gawn kicked 6 goals and 3 goals between them in of our practice matches this season against Richmond and St Kilda and the media were fawning all over it:

New ‘double threat’ ominous as Dees ‘blueprint’ emerges: 18yo’s ‘exciting’ glimpses: 3-2-1

The fickle and headline attention seeking nature of the media make me sick at times.

Listening to Max on 774 last Saturday, he was still adamant that he was a believer in Brody and the shared ruck / forward scenario could work and was taking the kind of mature attitude about it that you wish the media would.  Yes, you would expect him to take that attitude as both captain and current team member, but I do love his unwavering commitment to the concept of making the team better and supporting his team mates.  In the circumstances I think we need to try every option we have to get more goals out of our forward line and both Max and Gawn have shown reasonable ability to take marks and kick goals throughout their careers, so it's no long shot at all IMHO.  Maybe we just need to think a little more outside the square and have Brody and/or Max running off a wing or half forward back towards goal and using their athletisim rather than starting deep.  Anyways, I'll be fascinated to see how it all eventuates, but it isn't a forgone conclusion where it ends up for me.  Who in the media saw us winning the premiership or even finals in 2021 at the start of the year?  Not many.

Maybe we make Grundy a ruck rover….

Grundy is not going anywhere.  He has rucked in tandem and enables Maxy to play more games and remain physically ok through the year (without getting smashed weekly ).  And if Max cops a knock or has an injury, Grundy is a more than capable player to step in.

That's what he used to be praised for prior to his injury

Was lauded for the work below his knees at CBs after the bounce and was often seen to be almost like having an extra mid (post the ruck contest).

Think he has lost half a yard and no longer as clean with his hands either.

This is not the AA Grundy we were used to seeing dominate the odd game here and there pre-injury with the Pies.

He can also barely get off the ground at the moment.

He is still very handy but it's a diff version of himself post injury.

From the esteemed idiots at the HUN

"Brodie Grundy would be open to a move to a new club to play ruck if he cannot get back into the Melbourne side playing a combination of ruck and forward."

Beggars belief at the incredulity at their being able to fathom exactly what it is he IS at Melbourne to do.....ffs

Why would that even go to print so friggen predictable.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
