He could improve it. But only marginally.

Every player that comes into the system is programmed somewhat with a skill set as well as a mindset.

Fritsch's first instinct post contest is not to defend and never has been. And once you come into the AFL system it's hard to change those habits to any significant degree. Because it's too programmed.

Pickett on the other hand is exactly the opposite. His first instinct post contest is to defend like his life depends on it.

He’s not good enough to be a pure full forward, no one is. If we want to play a more up tempo aggressive game plan - a plan that will ultimately help Fritsch - then we need two things. 1. More forward pressure. 2. More midfield rotations.

Come finals next year Fritsch might never leave the forward 50, but next season should start more about the journey than the destination. 

A clean slate of positions and roles is important to that.

Adding speed to our side will be more about getting better ball users (Bowey) to improve transition, another true wingman & another speedy forward into the side

Are you telling me Collingwood wouldn't have obtained a better output from Grundy over Mason Cox's 2 marks, 5 disposals, 2 tackles and 18 hit outs?

Darcy Cameron played number 1 ruck most of the year, but he's got strong forward qualities. Collingwood were beaten in CPs and clearances most weeks and Grundy's historically been a ruck who can play as an additional midfielder.

I'd have thought yesterday highlighted how Grundy over Cox, shifting Cameron into the forward/ruck role, would make Collingwood a better side.

I can't imagine having both Grundy and Gawn on the ground in the 2nd half of games will solve the issues we faced this year. We need to change things up and become more mobile. I wouldn't bet on Grundy being mobile at his age and post injuries. 

You say we got found out but did we? Everyone bemoans our style yet it won a Premiership. We were some poor shots on goal from beating the Pies who scraped over the line with the help of the umpires. The Swans beat us by under 4 goals and we were clearly hampered by Petracca and Gawn both being sore on the night. No one steam rolled us and we weren't at our best. A tweak here and there, a good rest before preseason and we'll be back on top where we belong.

He will never bridge the gap so relying on that especially over one summer is a pipe-dream. 

Replacing ANB is something I'd love to see going forward. I just don't see his value now. He's been in the system for a long time and his forward craft is average at best. Forward craft is too important and you want to see incremental improvement with these guys, not one good year one poor. 

I'd have Chandler ahead of him in an instant. 

 

Agree on ANB. His work rate is top notch and was an important piece in 2021. But chandler or I 'd even try harmes who has shown he can kick a goal and is better overhead than nibber (will need to work on his tank in the preseason)

If you could have Spargo anywhere on the ground you would want thim to be the last posession going inside 50. His delivery is great. The problem with him being on a wing is his lack of speed and penetration with his kick. A lovely short pass he has, but struggles to kick over 40m. 

If we had a second winger like Ed, added to a fit Grundy, instantly both sides of the ground open up for us.

Im sick of our complete lack of unpredictability from defence.

The problem with ANB, despite all his gut running, is his disposal and decision making, I'm sure the rest of the team feel it's a real momentum killer also. He gets away with too much IMO.

If it wasn't for his $ I'm sure they would. 

Like us they are not a very tall team.  Those over 1.95m are ruckman Cameron, Cox (32 next year) the incoming Frampton who has played 18 games in 8 years and Moore.  Their tallest forward will be Mcstay at 1.95.  Next tallest backman is Howe (33 next year) at 1.9m

It might suit their game plan to not be tall but in the next few years they will need to replace a few of their tallest players.  As will mfc.

They must have another plan for their tall player replacements otherwise giving up Grundy for $ seems rather risky.

Not sure why the Pies are chasing Frampton.  He's  got less credits in the bank than his namesake Peter whose only hit was Frampton Comes Alive ... and that was pretty disappointing in itself.

I can only assume it is a 'press glass in an emergency' play...

Relying on Cox as their relief ruck/resting fwd is a risky play for mine.  They must have someone in mind when he goes in a year or two to play with Cameron.

Maybe Grundy will relent and take a pay cut...

Technically, they should be able to re-time Grundy's $ to the years when other players retire entirely or retire into lower contracts.  Of course the elephant in the room is how much they backended...

He doesn't need to, he is happy with his contract. He won't look to break his contract.

He will be offered to us.
