Grundy is 20 x the player Cox is.

The combination of Cameron and Cox (who was overlooked earlier this year for a kid with little senior footy experience) in their current form is functioning far better than Grundy and Cameron did.

They seem to be splitting the time in the ruck about 50:50 and both kicking goals.

Grundy doesn't have any forward craft so would ruck 75% of the game and Cameron would be stranded forward, unable to get in to the game as he is currently by being around the ball.

Anyway, what we really should be looking for is not the next Grundy but the next Darcy Cameron.

That contract is a joke.

A HUGE no from me, we would be better of with Big Dave Kelly.

Now big Dave was a friend of mine. Many many years ago. 
 

however I do appreciate your honesty in comparing him with current day players. And if the truth is known I agree with you. Dave was a really nice guy.  No anger problem that I can remember.  It was a long time ago!

I really hope when he comes back he messes up the setup that is currently humming for Collingwood. 

Grundy would be untradeable. The Pies won't be able to spin another contract flip after Treloar.

No club is taking on all of Grundy's contract, and no club will extend his contract to reduce average yearly amount.

If Pies want him off the books then they'll have Treloar it. If they keep him presume Cox asks for a trade to a club offering more time in ruck.

Guys, most of you will not be pleased to hear this, however, I’m going to tell you what I know.  
Despite the Coaches continual public support of Brodie, the Pies are keen to move him on IF they can get the right terms.  Naturally, Brodie, who is contracted, will not be forced to go to a Club unless he is totally satisfied that they are a successful Club on & off the field.

Right at this minute, there are just two Clubs that have had preliminary discussions with his management to get all the facts around his current contract, where his head is at, his physical condition etc etc. 

I can tell you Melbourne is one of those two Clubs.

A lot of water to pass under the bridge, and I’m not saying at this point in time that it will happen, but I think it’s perfectly reasonable that the Dees would explore this in the likely event that Luke Jackson departs.

You'd want to grab him for a 4th rounder if you have to absorb the large majority of his contract

Seems like GWS are the other club enquiring about Grundy. Personally, I don't get it. He'll be 29 next year, and has never shown much as a resting ruckman in the forward line. And I don't see Max as a permanent forward. 

Grundy plays like a ruck rover, but his role was diminished once Buckley was sacked. He was no longer used as a link man, because his possessions were deemed ineffectual. The Pies have been better without him. 

I doubt that the Pies will absorb more than 30% of his salary and accept a token pick.

And if we lose Gus over money, and take on a fair chunk of Grundy's salary, it will be a bitter pill to swallow.

These comments from last year made me doubt if Grundy has what it takes to give his all for a premiership:

“Being a premiership player too. It just feels like a lot of the messaging was ‘your career is only successful if you win a premiership’.  “It has never made sense to me. How can you go through 15 years of your life playing at the highest level but not see it as a success?  “Being able to have that perspective and balance away from football and to love what you do in finding happiness in the journey. That’s more important than the destination.”

By the way, the interview behind those articles was a year after he signed his mega contract. 

 

I understand his view that a successful career is not defined by winning a premiership and totally agree with having interests outside football and not wanting to be miserable. 

However, I got the impression he was happy to have a successful career ie the journey and not the destination ie a premiership. 

He was fairly successful (2 x AA, 2 X BnF winner) before his mega contract.  Maybe that success and his mega contract are enough for him.

He will be 29 early next year and getting to the latter part of his career.  His outlook on life is admirable but I want players who want to succeed in getting us more premierships.  Otherwise stay away.

GWS is the other Club at this early stage that has approached his Management.  BTW, I agree with all your points, however, please realise that a great Organisation explores every possibility as to how they can get better.  Clubs talk to Managers about a lot of Players but only a tiny % go anywhere. Who knows where this will go, but I just thought you guys would like to know.

Don’t hate the idea if we loose Jackson, as long as the $ are reasonable. I’m hearing English to WCE, Grundy to dogs but I reckon your mail would be stronger.

This just tops of what is already a super ordinary night.  Can only hope it's way off the mark.

English has already resigned with Dogs for next two years till 2024.  You need to keep accurate when discussing trade issues as incorrect facts spoil any post in good faith.
