Farewell Brodie Grundy

Alright .... now hear me out.

If we were to hypothetically lose Luke Jackson, and the MFC could convince Collingwood to pay part of the salary. Does this sound as stupid as it sounds to enquire about Grundy to play alongside Gawn?ย

yeah... you are right it's stupid.ย ๐Ÿค”

ย

It is not such a stupid idea but I would like to know how old is he and how much would he cost us ?

For me doesn't do enough to warrant such a salary,ย  They would want a club to pay at least $700k of a $1.2 million a year contract, Collingwood have just worked out they have been dudded once again.๐Ÿ˜‚

Had one good season in a contract year and Collingwood as they tend to do are paying overs for players who don't deserve it.

Collingwood have no payment structure whatsoever. That's why continually find themselves under salary cap pressure.

I donโ€™t think his heart is in the game. Would be even worse at a 2nd Clubย

He is not wothy of Max Gawn tuitionย

itโ€™s a No from meย

too many $$$ and wouldnโ€™t fit in as our 2nd ruckman to Gawnย

No forward craftย

aim for Haydn McLean from the Swans. ย Affordable cheaper dollars and can play as 2nd ruck or key size strong forward โ€ฆ and is gettableย

He's 28 years old, will be 29 early next season. He does not have a marking presence and has not been effective up forward. He can only play number 1 ruck and he's on over a million bucks a year for another 5 years.

He doesn't fit our age demographic and would retire not long after Gawn. We need Gawn's replacement to be younger than Grundy, otherwise he is a very expensive stop-gap. If he had a presence up forward like Lobb or Marshall type, then I'd consider it. As he doesn't, I'd avoid and look for younger, cheaper, more suitable options.

Haydn McLean is the one for me as well Spirit, he has great hands, is a big bugger and would be cheap.

I thought about this and figured as others have said. Its a no. He is playing well below his best. Hunger is not there - or its something else.ย

Isnt he South Australian? flight risk IMO.ย

They only need Cox to love himself too hard and break a rib, and Brodie will be required.

The only time Gawn and Grundy on the same list would be a good idea is in Supercoach, and even then it wouldn't work if they were at the same club.

Most Urgent: Big bodied forward-ruck to support Gawn and any successor. (Like others, I lean to McLean)

Most important: True long-term successor for Gawn.

Would be a real tragedy to lose Jackson given how well he fits our needs, but the trade value and salary cap space would likely get us through the distress.

The fact that he's now behind Mason Cox in the pecking order tells me all I need to know.ย

I raised this scenario on page 3,267 of the Jackson contract thread. Makes a lot of sense ย given our investment in the 2-ruck strategy. Obviously only at the right price. Gawn would have to spend more time forward though.

Grundy is the Best Ruck in the league after Max.ย  but it is way to much to pay for a 28yo second ruck.

Geelong and Essendon should be throwing the kitchen sink at him if they have any brains.

Why did this make me think of Marilyn Manson...

Grundy lobb or tex

I think we end up with one of them if Jackson departs

We will have 700 in the kitty and that's probably where it ends up. Grundy would need the Pies to pay 300 of his salary to get him off their books - or take a smaller cheque to come here with promise of being in contention

Why would the Pies need to pay Sideshow...to pay out his existing contract?

a bit expensive to take grundy's contract. he's stiill got 5 years to go at over $1m/yr.ย  so even if the filth pay some for 5 years,ย  the remainder and risk of 5 years length will dissuade most suitors

Yep - he's on $1m a year. Noone is going to pay that - if they want 700k of that back they pay 300 of his contract - same as what they had to do to get treloar off their books

But he's not behind Cox though..

He's out with a long term injury. Had he not be injured Cox would be playing VFL and taking calls from suburban clubs for next year.

Grundy is 20 x the player Cox is.

From what I have read of the above it will a no from me.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for clarifying dazzle.ย

I would definitely take him if Colinwood paid the first million each year, they throw in the Daicos boys as the steak knifes and give an undertaking that Ginnivan wears shorts that fit him.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

Itโ€™s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle โ€“ perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
