Steven May Suspended by the Club

Featured Replies

The Melbourne Football Club is aware of an altercation that occurred in Prahran on Sunday evening between Steven May and Jake Melksham.

“Following a dinner on Sunday evening, Jake and Steven informed us of a scuffle that took place after a lighthearted disagreement between the pair escalated.

“Both Jake and Steven had been drinking at dinner and are incredibly remorseful that things played out the way they did.

“Given Steven is still under the AFL concussion protocols from Round 11, he was aware that under club guidelines he should not have been drinking.

“The leadership group has recommended to impose a one-match ban on Steven, a decision which has been endorsed by the club’s broader leadership. This will make him unavailable for both AFL and VFL selection.

  • Demonland changed the title to Steven May Suspended by the Club

Just give the bloke a fine, not suspend him

Hurts the team more than the player.

I'm all for doing the right thing off the field but would we suspend him on the eve of a GF?

Punishing the team for an individuals behaviour.

An individual punishing the team by their behaviour.

Super annoyed, but we should acknowledge the leadership from our leadership group, it would have been easy to just be like 'Oh dont do it again you are a super important player and we need you' but culture starts from the top.

So one match for drinking while on concussion protocol, nothing for punching Melksham 😀

This is a joke right ?

Very disappointing actions from former captain Jake Melksham. He should receive a lifetime ban

Nope, and we have two threads on the event.   Can someone merge them :)

While its was stupid by the players, if we enforce standards it must be for all players.   Clubs rules on drinking while injured for concussion.

Absolutely had to suspend him. Destroys culture when you don't.

How? There was no other way punish him? None?

Correct. It shouldn't be tolerated at all and no single player is above the club and it's culture.

It's the one that hurts the most and impacts his team mates, no other option

Can we give Melksham 3 weeks, and May a warning?

Every player at the dinner had no problem with May drinking until he got caught.

So…. They can’t exactly be emphasising the high standards.

Given 2 of our older players were there I wouldn’t be surprised if many others in the leadership group were too.

Jeez the media will have a field day with this. Terrible undisciplined look. WTF is going on?

There is a four lettered word that contains the word “log” that sums up May right now.

Seriously one dumb individual.

Oh FFS...

This is incredibly dumb by Steven May. If he knew about the protocols of not drinking while under the concussion rule then its stupid by him.

Watch Mason Cox kick 5 now.

Another reason for the media to dig their boots in...

...we are now giving them the ammo!

When it rains, it pours!

Not good for May, with the bye coming up he will not have played for 4 weeks.

Just one normal day supporting this club plz.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
