100%. what did it achieve apart from adding to Tom stats. I would have been celebrating with my team mates.

Loved it. The final seal on a dominant and magnificent win. Summed up the Dees attitude that day. Play hard until the siren. I mean seriously, who wouldn’t have had a kick for goal at the siren. Stamped the team’s dominance.

Loved it as well   it was an exclamation mark on how good we were that day.   Go Dees

By taking that kick, he avoided any post-match discussion about the implications for any betting on the game which was related to the winning margin. That would have distracted from the overall positive publicity.

Whether we like, don't like or don't care about the betting is irrelevant. The AFL has obligations under agreements with the betting companies and the gambling regulator to ensure that it manages the integrity of the game. Playing the game to the end is one of those obligations.

Finally, and on a separate point (so to speak), that after-the-siren goal gave us the greatest winning margin - by one point - in any of our 13 premiership wins.

I was happy for Weeds not to contest the ball with Mc Donald in the goal square but him knowing that should have lead him to call McDonald out of the way to let the ball drift through off Harmes boot.

God forbid that Harmes should finish his career on  only 499 goals because T Mac snaffled one of his goals !!!!

Harmes has stuffed up plenty of attempts at goal without TMac's input.

The whole TMac mark on the line has been overblown here. Fritta did it to Sparrow in Q1 of the GF.

That turned out ok !

Not wishing to give this witches’ hunt any more oxygen, but BT did describe it after Tom’s  after the siren goal as “being the greatest winning margin in a grand final by any Melbourne team”. Something the vast majority of true red and blue faithful would be rather proud of, given the club’s history.

Can we have a game or 2 with both Kozzie and Bedford in the forward line? They seemed to combine brilliantly on a couple of occasions in a pre-season game. Not sure how we'd fit him in if all 5 covids come back, but perhaps ANB to the wing, Jordon to the mids, and maybe Harmes has a rest? Not sure if it can be done, but would just love to see these 2 excitement machines playing together.

Yes, it would be great to see Kozzie and Bedford plying together, of course, but under the current regime I don't think anyone gets a rest, or wants one in case they can't fight their way back in.

If ANB doesn't make it back we have Pickett and Sparrow as front half players returning.

Who goes out from Melksham, Bedford, Dunstan?  Can see a case for each one to stay.  Another difficult decision for selection committee.

IMVHO it would have to be Melksham (who I believe must know that he is now a back up depth player), and Dunstan probably as medisub.

I was disciplined like tmac and didn't start crying until after his goal sailed through 😂

I was far less disciplined than you - started when Fritter, or maybe when ANB nailed that goal. 🥲

Have to say, Dunstan and Bedford have done really well...

But hard for them to stay in with bulk priemiership players available this week..

Embarrasment of riches, but these guys need to consider their futures...

Like Tomlinson, they could walk into the top 22 in at at least half a dozen other clubs...

Can't see how we can keep this amazing depth medium term, much less long term...

Dunstan consider his future ?  …he did & it’s with us. He has 3 yrs with us & there will be plenty of opportunity for him & Tomlinson would still be holding hope to play again this season…there is a long way to go ..

So an interesting stat on afl 360 regarding  our performance ytd . Pressure acts #3 (2021)>> #14 (2022) and defending ball movement #3 (2021) >> #13 (2022).

Its quite an alarming stat and has really put too much pressure on our back 6. Thank goodness for May!

I’d  like to think these are the gears and we can up our pressure when required but I didn’t think we ranked that badly until tonight. What’s more concerning is that this is just against the bottom 10 teams.

The Saints game will give us a real indication of where we are. They match up well and have the weaponry to really exploit our current vulnerabilities. Either way our boys desire and willingness to back up last year will be put to its first real test.

I agree the conversation re TMac's mark is completely overblown.

Playing at the highest level of footy dictates that you do not take anything by chance or for granted...and in TMac's case here he had his eyes on the ball 100% and did not think about any error possibility situation that the Ball may have gone through the Goal line if he had not marked.

Safety first, if's and but's last.

We are not defending well in our forward half or creating as many turnovers - it’s alarming unless Goodwin just lets them save their legs against lower opposition.

We find out on Sunday. I don’t think you can be so blasé with how you play so I just don’t think we are as good defensively in the forward half as we were last year.  Weds to improve in the next four months.

Thinking about ANB, he’s due out of iso tomorrow. Are we allowed to name a player in the extended squad tonight whilst he’s in isolation?  Can’t recall if any other player has come out of isolation on a Friday and named the previous night.

I presume we can. The club would be in constant dialogue with ANB throughout the week.

The issue is the only 'football' training he would have completed after iso will be the Captain's Run which is usually a light 30 minute run around.

he's had a week of solid treadmill running or stationary bike riding (presumably)

as long as the covid didn't hit him hard he should be ok

Not only that Ernie - he could have made a motza if he kept the ball.

My MFCSS senses are tingling and I reckon the Saints won't kick a point this weekend.

Hopefully first shot on goal, directly in front it gets shanked and the rest follow suit! That said, beating a team when they’ve had more scoring shots is a tiny bit less satisfying for me (even if it is funny), I like us winning when on the day we are the best team in all areas, not because we were lucky.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
