Maybe but at least he is more involved than Weid who runs around much of the game being unnoticed.

I guess that is a matter of perception.  Sometimes when Goodwin talks about players his view varies from some DL'er views, sometimes they vary a little, sometimes a lot.

Re TMc, for the best part of 18 months our players, coaches, CEO and President have talked about selflessness as a key reason behind our 2021 success.  Oliver epitomised that when he took upon himself a goal 'to be a better teammate' at the start of 2021.

To me it seems that selflessness is a non-negotiable so no matter how good you are, if selfish you don't play.  It is like other non-negotiables like two-way running, 1%, defensive work etc etc.

The club has set standards on these non-negotiables and to my eye it looks like TMc has some work to do on the selflessness side.  Whether it costs him a spot in the team we shall wait and see.

I don't disagree with you. I am firmly in the Tmac camp. I also think Weid is more a replacement for Jackson as a second ruck, and Brown if needed. But I recall at least two strong marks he took tonight so credit where it is due. I was worried about his intensity (ball watches a bit for mine) but thought it improved through the match.

LFS I saw Weideman take 1 mark only and he is credited with 1 mark only. 8 possessions and for mine did a creditable job in the ruck.

Did he fulfil his role up forward? Not in my opinion. TMac stays in.

While it's good to be selfless it's also important to be involved in the game imo some set the bar too low when rating Weid's games

They'll try to rush Petty & Jackson back and let the others have another week off if not quite right

I'd have Spargo out before Bedford based on today's game

Not a  knock on Sprago, but Bedford looks good. Has speed and skill

Bedford + Kozzi hunting in the forward line?   I like it!

I reckon Spargo like Nibbler are hard core role players which has kept them in the team as they do their jobs. But like you mention in your last point, to have a bedford and Koz in the same side is an exciting prospect.

Also Chandler fits in to that category of player, having a couple talls a resting ruck and 3 speedy forwards would make an interesting mix.

My gut feel is the coaches want defence bedsore offense so we are unlikely to see it.

I don’t think we should rush players in from Covid. If they need it, give them another week to get back to normal and match fit. This can have quite an impact on different people and have to think about injuries if they come in unfit.

Also, after watching the Saints game last night I really think they will struggle with recovery. They were absolutely cooked in that humidity and contest, let alone a travel day.

Would prefer to see the same team as yesterday have another tilt.

TMAC played well as 2nd tall and Weid stepped up to play ruck/forward position.

I hope both boys continue to put pressure on each other.

It's not about who is permanent best 22, more about who's in form at a particular time.

ANB won't be ready to go, will he? Only entered the protocols on Friday so won't be able to train mid-week.

Correct.

Yze said he is the one that is least likely to be ready as he went into covid protocols late so may not get training in.  Others will be able to train mid/later in the week.

my reasoning was that dribble goal Sw missed, Tmac would have nailed it,

After seeing both in the team with BBB and Fritta why are we even talking about it?

Obviously Tom but next year Tom is likely gone so then it's Weid.

Meanwhile we have depth inc Van Rooyen

With Covid it depends how sick you get. I know they are fit athletes and in most cases it is nothing more than an inconvenience where the time out doesn't justify the level of sickness, but some of the players, not necessarily ours, will get next level sick and develop a cough that may take a bit of time to clear.

People here talk about Covid like it is a week off and back to full output and while we certainly have seen that with Viney (warrior spirit) I will be very happy to see each of those players, fit and healthy and back out there. It's just not a given.

Not that he will be an out but fritsch really needs to lift was quite disappointing tonight, shirked the contest a few times altogether looked out of it.

Your old chestnut Garbo Give it a rest.
Fritta does have an off game where he contributes less but the next 2/3 games is a 2/3/4 goal contributor

He is our best forward and creates like he did with Bedford last night. He is a match winner even when he does not contribute  goals. Like Spargo I don't think he will be dropped any time soon.

But it's good that Yoby got some hoals and looks very much at home with the pace of the game.

It probably won't cost Tmac his place but it was bazar really and Toby was 3 metres away who probably didn't think to yell out "leave it". Another more senior player might have.

Also Tmac has more brownie points than any other forward in shepherding goals through ( GF Tommy Sparow and a recent one in earlier round). Are prime examples.

It will be interesting to see how the club handles players recovering from Covid. Much will depend on the severity of the symptoms. Some people get it only in a mild form and can still exercise and do things to maintain their fitness.

Agree Weid has taken about 8/10 strong round the grounds marks this year, most up on the wing, in addition to his goals and points marks.  Definitely a clone of Jacko's.

Tmac is a cleverer all round footballer who does clear paths and gets balls dropped for other forwards and is generally busier than Sam. Another poster said correctly that point along the ground Tmac would have nailed and also a flying shot bs Tigers  I thought Tommy would have got that.

But Sam  is a much better player snd team contributor this year, it's fascinating to watch our talls in action.

One in action is a giant Maxy is getting better and better and is so motivating to the team.

Watching the replay afterwards BBB annoyed me as he went for marks one handed all night not using his right arm ( think it was this one). I suspect he had a shoulder issue maybe but not a good look.

I thought he took one up the ground in the first half, and then the one drifting into the pack in the fwd line. I'm not convinced about him as a pure forward still. Back up ruck and fwd is where I like him when needed.

Fritsch, Pickett, Ben Brown, Petracca all consistently burn team mates. Not to mention Harmes is the king of trying to do it all himself.

Im not sure you can mark Tom down too much on taking that mark or some of his other ball use. That’s Tom. If he made good decisions he’d probably still be playing at CHB.

The entire forward line needs a good kick up the backside in terms of blocking and creating space for each other. And the team needs work on inside 50 options.

Chandler is further away IMO now than last year as Bedford has surpassed him.

BUT let's not get too warm snd cosy and say that either Kossie or Spargo or even ANB should be dropped for Toby despite his excellent team play yesterday. Showed some great skills in his goals and that pick up that BBB  eventually goaled from was pure class.

One season of 25 games  and 7 this year are excellent brownie points to base a spot in the team for all three. Of course sometimes someone is going to be unlucky like our tall forwards or defenders fighting for positions.

It will keep the players on their toes and us fans alert as well. Good competition to have as no one will go stale.

The 7 day covid out runs from the time of the positive RAT.

I assume they followed up the RAT with a PCR within 24 hours.

Of the missing 5 my guess is that original 3 get out Wednesday, Petty on Thursday and ANB Friday ( Goodwin on Tuesday?)

On a more positive note you would hope that if the rest of the players are clear on Monday we shouldn't see another major outbreak (at least not next week)

What is a bedsore offense? Do they have to lay down before going forward?

Agreed.  Tmac was clearly unaware of surroundings and exact position and did the conservative action by marking the ball to ensure a goal.  And he didn't juggle it over the line.  Smart.

He quickly apologised to Harmes when he finally became aware of what he had done.  relays shows the immediate "sorry mate".

Well done Tmac on both counts.

I'm amazed this issue has even become a talking point.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
