POSTGAME: Rd 06 vs Richmond

A win against Richmond is always welcomed. Still, I can’t believe how inaccurate we were. We could barely get past them. How many intercept mark did they take in our forward 50? Oliver, Bowey, May, Tracc all good. all we need to do it work on our forward line and we’ll smash the hawks

that was an 8 goal win, disregard the deplorable accuracy, were in control after the 1st 15 minutes.

How do Lever and Salem get back in, haha, the whole backline was fantastic  tonight

Lever straight in for Smith.

Salem coming in for one of Dunstan or JJ once fully fit??

Bombed it far too often allowing the Tiger's spare to intercept quite a bit.  Not enough patience / smarts coming inside.  Look for the give off lateral if you cant see a man forward and chip it around / change lanes till you can.

The first quarter i understand this is going to happen a bit more but for mine we should have looked to correct this as best as possible in the second but didn't.

Sure their pressure was high in the first half but we kicked 16 points in total.... 10 to the right hand side and 6 to the left.  Lots of brain snaps....literally

This was an 80 point (roughly) deemolition in the offing which we let slip.

Happy to take the win but some worrying brain fades / red veils in that first half for mine (may cost us against better opp going forward).

The bad goal kicking was mainly through bad decision making and not properly thinking things through.

To Richmond’s credit they pushed us really wide in the forwardline. They really defended heavily the corridor because they didn’t want to get smashed.
In the end they didn’t get smashed because we couldn’t kick straight

Ask The Storybots Farm GIF by StoryBotsThat win was agricultural at best! “Too many of you blokes couldn’t hit the side of a barn.”

Smith out for Lever, when ever Salem is ready change him for Hunt.
Viney might relplace JJ or Dunstan, not sure.

Lot to fix tonight. The selfishness going into f50/shots on goal that crept in tonight by a lot of players needs to be eradicated quickly. Trac being the worst offender.

Never in doubt. Not only is he the best on-baller in MFC history, he’s the best I’ve ever seen in the AFL/VFL. Phenomenal.

If he can manage 287 disposals in the next 9 games (Ave 31.9) he'll beat Greg Williams (who I think was the fastest) to 4000 career disposals (139 games vs Williams's 140). That includes 17 shortened games in 2020.

I know disposals don't tell the true story of a player, but this would be a pretty impressive feat.

This team continues to astound.

This was an ugly game, make no mistake. Our scoreline was hideous, our kicking into the forward line was largely out of character and we simply just looked out of sorts all night. However, even when this team operating at 40%, it's still enough to keep teams in check. That 5-10 burst in the third was all it took to put the result beyond doubt.

Bowey for Prime Minister.

It’s very hard to keep winning, even though we didn’t finish our good work from the back often enough, it’s very obvious we are extremely hard to beat.
Shout out to Hunty, thought he was very good on Bolton. Petty will be a star if he’s not already.

Jayden is really building this season, perhaps his best game.

Tigers were hard to break down. Threw numbers behind the ball so we were forced to bomb away. Bit like soccer's version of parking the bus.

We wore them down eventually. Our one-percenters were brilliant all night.

Clayton Oliver take a bow. Amazing game.

When our little blokes (Hunt, Rivers, and Bowey) were forced to defend one-on-one we looked a little vulnerable. Same with Smith on Reiwoldt.

Loved that we played for four quarter even though we weren't capitalising on the scoreboard.

Every game is going to be a dirty grind. That is the way our system works. Teams that want to back there own system over ours will tend to get exposed more than teams. So we may turn out a performance like last week every 4-5 rounds.

But I bet if we looked at last years postgames we’d be complaint of lots of similar things. If ain’t broke….it wins you a flag.

Brayshaw can think he's a better inside mid than winger but if he goes and plays inside he will just be another one of 100 players. On the Wing he is elite.

Another side that didn’t play their natural game against us. Slow the game down and chip the ball around.. Game conceded before the bounce. We have spooked just about every other side in the comp.

Put everything into stopping us and result: couldn't score themselves.

I pity the team we play 4 quarters against.

I don't think we've played more than 2 quality quarters in any match this year and we are still light years ahead of the competition.

Remember when you'd be nervous at the footy?? I haven't felt it all year, I trust we'll get the job done.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
