More continuous games for Weid, as per what half on this site said, and there's an MFC smokey for the BL.

Weed deserves a go with Brown now imo. I don't know why you wouldn't give it a shot given T - Mac is just so inconsistent in his form.

I'd give him a block of games whilst we have the luxury of being 4-0 and with T - Mac out of form.

It can only be a good thing. Force T Mac to get back into some form and give Weed the opportunity to play every game as if it's his last.

Brown for McDonald.

Do it.

IN: Brown

OUT: Weid

Would love Weid to get more of a run, but think TMac had him (just) covered in last night's game. Kicked a goal, had more meters gained, it's not much, but that combined with not having to move roles around with Brown coming in probably means that's what Goody will go with IMO.

Can't see Smith coming straight back in given Brown didn't. Know the timing is slightly different but if match committee have decided missing a week of training means missing the game then that logic probably prevails again. That means Hunt is likely safe but wouldn't be against dropping him pending performances at Casey.

The Weed kicked more goals last week In a tight game than T Mac has kicked in all 4 games. T Mac is in poor form and should be dropped. Weed didn’t play well last night but can impact games more as we saw last week

Rivers looks injured, so I would bring in Smith.

BBB back in and either one of Weid  or TMac out.

TMac obviously must do the structure role required of him hitting packs and running plus kicked a goal last night.

Weid not much last night but 4 last week.

FD will know who provides more value for now, or perhaps may look to the future and give Weid 4-5 games!

Goody makes minimal changes, and to a team that let through one goal with about 10 mins to go, will only bring in BBB and any other change will be for injury or Covid protocol!

BB will surely be an auto in for Weid

Smith or Petty for Tomo seems reasonable.  Smith making a few errors but still feel there's plenty of upside here.  It's probably a tustle between those three for one spot and another arm wrestle to see who stays in out of Hunt, Rivers and Hibb once Hibb returns & gets back to some match fitness.

Casey game should will be an interesting watch although the winds at Willy are usually pretty fickle to say the least

That interpretation of it did go through my head too, but at the end of the day, we don't know the real dynamics of the relationship with Max and Joel, or any of the players. It could be hurtful or they could all just laugh about it - who knows.

I think Max was inferring more about the way Steven May sees his role, and the intensity with which he gives ‘direction’. I love the way Max speaks. It’s real, it suggests he has fun, and it gives you an insight into the dynamics of the group.

Whenever I see Tracc speak on AFL360 he’s at pains to not say anything that could be interpreted as suggesting someone’s effort isn’t perfect - and in doing so he says almost nothing with any insight.

Tmac worked harder than weed.

I know he didn't have a great game but I think the death penalty is a tad harsh.

Not true really he sticks to generalisations with insight BUT not specific names and details where he could be in trouble.

Occasionally  a joke erupts and the whole group laugh at the expense of someone but in a humorous not critical way.
He has developed into a very smart snd listenable media person and so has Nathan Jones. Add Daisy and we have some stars to listen to that add to our pleasure and achievements.

Not sure  Weid should be discarded yet as this game had no forward vibes or stars at all.

It took the most likely and skilful forward of all to get 3 goals so that how hard it was to generate scoring.

Tmac did play more usefully than Weid but maybe he could be Med Sub and give Sam another chance to succeed.

Down  back it will be a slow burn getting our best 7 together with encumbants being favoured by the Goody selection process.
All in all we have 30 plus players in our depth st this stage with about 3 out of action.  It's still a work in progress!!

There are a lot of players playing below their best. Hunt, Tomlinson, Spargo, Pickett, ANB, Rivers, TMac. Weed was out of touch. We can't drop players easily if we are winning the way we are. If recent history means anything there will be as few changes as possible. We are playing well below our best but are winning by strangling the life out of the opposition.

I would bring in B Brown, and give TMac a rest at Casey.

The only other one who worries me is Rivers. His run and carry has disappeared, he looks really shaky on his sore knee, and his wonderful kicking looks mediocre at best. I don't reckon they will rest him though.

I'm in the Weed camp on this. Although I also share everyone's frustration at the lack of follow up to last week's game, I don't think it helps to have Weed constantly worried that one bad game gets him dropped.

While Macca played a (slightly) better game on Thursday night, Weeds game last week was far better than anything Macca has done this year so far. I want to see how he combines with BBB.

With Hibberd and Salem injured, is there anyone who really puts pressure on Rivers' spot in the side? Smith can run but is no better kick.

Hmmm, how did Weid go with the block of 5 games he was given last year?

Posted

Faceplam re Spargo, he is going just fine, cannot remember anyone in 4 matches this year rebounding out of back half quickly, it is our small forwards that set up the zone so well. We have a huge spread of goal kickers so we are not relying on Spargo or Kozzie to score, but our zone is essential. They will get their goals in due course.

I wanted to reach through the tv and slap the big Neanderthal for once again throwing his team mates under the bus in public. By far his worst trait as captain.

Especially after the comments about how last preseason they agreed to stop with the negative talk about each other eg "Lever had 8 marks today" "yeah but who was he on?"

I'm not a Smith fan and I agreed with what Max said but I was thinking geez how would Smith be feeling listening to that? It's basically saying everyone knows he's second rate.

I agree.

Sam Weideman's performance was underwhelming tonight.

Which of our forwards played well though? Pretty scrappy inside 50 with Port flooding back and the poor delivery from the mids. Tough decision, they'll have to weigh up the potential mental impact on Weid if he is dropped again with whether they think it is best for the team to keep him in. I'd like to see him given a block of games early in the season and it might stick a rocket up TMac as well as he hasn't reached the same level he did through the middle part of last year. Brown is a definite in though.

I don’t think that was what he was inferring at all.
I think he was saying that May has been trying to organize a very raw defense without Lever and trying to tell Smith where to stand because Smith was playing the Lever role and it’s not something you can just learn to do in 4 games.

Brown in Weideman out

TMac seems to play a role the FD likes, he doesn’t tear games apart or kick loads of goals but his run, contest and pressure seems to make him valuable. He’s also shown a bonus in the early part of this year in that he can swing back. Weid is unlucky, but he plays the same role as BB who is more consistent.

I agree Riv looks sore but with 9 days off hopefully he’ll be feeling better.

BBB for Tomlinson and move T Mc to CHB while we have the luxury to do it. T Mc is too valuable an experienced player to not try that.  By the way T Mc had a better AF score than The Weed against Port.

We've seen him impact a game twice in 5 years. T Mac was better last night, and plays a different role. Brown comes in for Weid.

How many seasons of " chances to succeed" do you think Weid deserves?

WS it prior to 2020 he said he was going to make his big move and become the main man up forward?

Was it 2018 he had a good finals game with 3(?) marks?

TMac is surely cooked ..he's gone this Christmas like the turkey , but Weid can wait his turn for the future .

We've been waiting long enough.

One last season for Tom..he could still kick 30 and upset a few packs in the process

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
