Oh I feel your pain.

Primary School in the 80's

St Bernard's in the 90's

I've now erased 2000 from my memory thanks to last year.

Having had to wear that jumper for Little League as I grew up 10 minutes from Windy Hill...makes my skin crawl thinking about it.

Being at that win @ Windy Hill  in 1990 was my childhood version of winning the premiership. I can still recall Darren Bennett taking the [censored] and lobbing goals from 50 over the back fence and out of the ground and Peter Landy's all time favourite call of "Heaver...Leave it to Heaver!"

For those outside of the North-West of Melbourne and can't comprehend what it was like, imagine 99% (there are a few supporters i know that are actually non-biased and can have a chat about footy with) of their supporters with the smugness of peak Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson and letting you know how [censored] your team was ...every....single...week.

Wow 13 it’s like you're practically a clone of me growing up in the west - although i didn’t attend that match at windy hill in 1990.

yes the smug sheedy disciples were at their peak back then - but now they have the beginnings of an inferiority complex .

So the difference between winning and losing is the difference between Brown and Weideman? ☹️

Hi mauriesy. The final siren sounds and our full forward has marked it 40 metres out on a 45 degree angle. We're 5 points down. Do you want Ben Brown or Weeds taking that kick?

Nazi colours. An unusually high proportion of unlikeable players and red-heads in the 90s.

That’d be St Kilda

One more month and a quick rapid test and BB could have played.

Would have been happy to see Mitch Brown come into the side but perhaps he plays too much like Fritsch.

Not confident at all about Weid having an impact marking wise but hopefully he can bring the smaller forwards into play

Well Sam gets another chance - hopefully he performs well

I thought his game in the VFL wasn't as bad as some think - spent quite a lot of time in the ruck and M Brown seemed to be the main key forward target

I hope he comes out with some fire in the belly

Weed needs to get on his bike and get involved up the ground early. It is a big opportunity for him and I hope he plays a good game.

We need him performing for this exact scenario - BB or TMac being unavailable. I also think that he has the opportunity to take TMac's position in the team if he is good enough...not straight away but the opportunity is there.

Go well Sam!

I just hope we start well. We can't let the bummers kick the first 3 like we let gc do last week.

I just hope we can hold stringer. Couldn't stand it if he got going

I hope Sam has a great game and gets some reward for sticking around and challenging himself by having to fight for each game for the reigning premiers (gee I like using that phrase in a MFC thread).

I know some on this site who have little time for him will say he took the new contract because no-one would take him - but just as likely he may have knocked back better offers to stay. None of us really know and I’m happy to give him the benefit of the doubt - and would be really happy for him if he has a good game.

Weideman to kick 6 and Dees by 80

I'll have what 'Roost it far' has been having.

Having read all of the pro-Weed considerations and the contributed warnings of those not preferring his presence in the team against Essendrug -then balancing these opinions to assist formulate my own - all that I can say is that  I, too, need 'mother's little helper' to get me through the game - including the post-match shockwaves that many of us are expecting.

Like every week.
Kick straight and we'll kill 'em.
Kick poorly and anything could happen.

Any one know if car park is open?

Everyone complaining that Weideman is in over Mitch Brown need to remember one thing, Weideman can ruck and ruck quite well. Playing him means Gawn or Jackson can play forward when not taking the ruck work in the middle, which means we don't lose the height advantage of Ben Brown bringing the ball to ground.

I understand Mitch Brown was very good last week for Casey, but he's got no future at the club, he is a good ordinary VFL player and is emergency backup only.

We just signed Weideman for another 2 years. If we don't play him now, what is even the point of having him on the list?

Frisch needs to fire tonight. Been a slow start to the season so far for him.

He'll have his big moments and games this year but it's fair to say his engine hasn't started yet for the year, aside from the AAMI game.

Certainly not the latter.

That is the point exactly.

It is quite ridiculous that even now after 3 different vaccines, we are still making people go into 'health and safety protocols' for being a close contact.

Do your RAT and if you're negative then get on with it.

My gf currently has Covid, I've had it months ago and also did a RAT this week and was negative. But under the rules can't go tonight :(

Everyone is just looking at the 7 goals last week, but don't acknowledge Weid played a lot of the game in the ruck and further up the ground. In my mind Mitch Brown will only play as a replacement for Fritsch.

My point is we've now had probably 60-70% of Victorians having either had or been exposed to Covid now, so not sure what the point of the current rules is.

my point was do a pcr test instead of a rat to get shorter clearance.......otherwise i agree

I'd agree more wholeheartedly if he had a chance to work himself into form in the VFL first.

It doesn't matter if I do a PCR or RAT. The rules are the same, I have to do a 7 day ISO because my gf has it and we live together.

My other point was Ben Brown having to pull out as a 'close contact'.

I just think the rules now are pointless.

Concur Sue but funnier things have happened. Probably does not deserve a spot but we all can only hope he comes out and plays well for the team. Fingers crossed.

I want to see Weid aggressively attacking the ball in the air, something he did when he started his career, he has the talent, not sure about the confidence, so wish he took those marks late against Carlton.

Love the fact he stayed with us, the coaches obviously have faith, wish I was the same..

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
