No concerns whatsoever. If anything, it highlights how far we’ve come as a team in still getting the wins when our stars are not at their best.

Didn’t he kick five in a prelim four games ago?

Gone way too early… almost disrespectful of our great Premiership winning Captain…

Sorry mate, I didn't know asking a question and making fairly obvious observations was disrespectful. I'll keep my curiosity under wraps until at least round five. Hopefully that's ok.

No need to apologise, as I, like you, was simply expressing my opinion.
After 57 years, I’d give Max till Round 5, 2024. But each to their own.

I think that Max has not looked settled in the first 2 rounds of the season. I am not worried at all but I would like to see him relax into the game a bit more. I do not mean that he needs to take it easy, far from it. He has to get into the rhythm of the game a bit more and start to enjoy it way he looked to be doing last season.

Last year he went off like a rocket in rounds 3-5 as he picked up 7 Brownlow votes.

There might be a masterpiece just around the corner.

So I shouldn't trade him out of my Fantasy team?

OP was not disrespectful and made an observation that many Demonlanders have mentioned in other posts. Insulting people is not the way to discuss topics raised.

Thanks DT I forgot that I have a tersely cogent tendency. I'll send you a PM before I post next time so you can point me in the right direction. For clarity; I wasn't interested in discussing the topics raised. Like a Martian, I too have made some observations and I'm not about to debate them.

Not interested in discussing the topic but let me throw in my slow witted sarcasm for good fun. Well done mate.

Just doing what you did; make an observation. The fact it wasn't palatable to you doesn't make either of us correct. Interesting that you've volleyed back. You should hold yourself to a higher standard.

Hasn’t been in the best half of the team for 3 weeks now, have to admit I’m getting concerned if he doesn’t lift soon. So far as I can tell he doesn’t appear to be carrying any injuries and had a full pre season.

Why is this event a thread?

I'm not seeing a problem with Max

Lets take the last game as it's the most recent example

Up against Draper (who I think is a dud but touted as the next big thing in the media) and Phillips (honest battler)

Both Max and Jacko lost (not by much) in the overall HO stat - question is always how effective these are

Max had 22 disposals almost twice the number as Draper and Phillips combined

Max had 4 contested marks while Draper had a donut

Max had 4 inside 50's while Draper enjoyed another donut

Max had 3 centre clearances - the donut guy had another donut

Draper did beat Max on disposal efficiency - you have to give credit where its due. It does however help when you only have 2 disposals for the game. Max does a hell of lot around the ground not only on the stat sheet but supporting and encouraging his team mates

In short, I'm not seeing a big problem with our Captain. Do you think every other team in the comp would love to have Max running out this week - you betcha they would

I think I'll start worrying when Max isn't playing at all

It could be as simple as the FD giving a chunk more game time to Dogga in the ruck duties and Gawny just adjusting to it eg;  as a result of the above he is not in the places he was in (around the ground)  quite as often as he was last season .... just sayin 🤷‍♂️

Regardless i dont have any issues with Maxy so far.  Far too early to be concerned and has shown glimpses of his 2021 form in the first three matches also.

It's a long season. Just warming up to hit peak when it is needed.

Can't play prelim final standard every week and dogga is now pulling his weight.

I feel as if ( and I may be totally wrong ) Max is enjoying making a nuisance of himself in our forward line and trying to overload the opposition backmen with options to cover. Now that he has got a taste for kicking goals, he has to satiate himself each game.

Greater time in the forward line probably ensures he  runs games out strongly which is a massive bonus for the team too.

Wait til he wins the toss.. He'll relax then.

Appropriately named poster, given that this post is absolute rubbish. Must have been out working on the truck during last week's game.

Compare his around the ground work to Draper on friday night, nothing at all to be concerned about.

Two games in and I'm seeing a few concerning signs from our Premiership Captain.

- Dropping marks he'd normally swallow

- Continued bewilderment at ruck infringements

- The misjudging of flight. The Doggies game especially.

- He's smiling/carefree attitude towards his mistakes. Dogs game again.

I accept it's early but the early signs from Max this year aren't great. Is the rise of Jackson affecting his game?

Lets hope he has a blinder this week and gets some of his aerial confidence back.

Have you thought or considered how good it is to have a skipper, who is focused on the team, and the development of Jacko, rather than solely focused on his own performance / maximising his time in the ruck?!

keep doing everything you do Max:-  dominating!

I don't think posters need to bother comparing Max's game to Draper's. That's silly. This is about influence on a game and where he can get better.

I agree with others that his output has been down and whilst he's still a phenomenal ruckman in most areas, his tap work at contests simply has to improve because its bog ordinary at times. He hits it to the strangest spots and regularly straight to an opposition player.

The fact that we lose as many centre clearances as we do is pretty wild given we have arguably the best midfield group + ruckman in the AFL.

Definitely need to improve in that area, especially if we want to  bring Carlton back to earth.

So you think a 5 time All Australian, who is fully fit, has suddenly forgotten how to play?

Just watched a replay of the game. Max had a great game. Could have kicked 4 goals but was off target but he racked up possessions and laid some important tackles. Easing into the season nicely .

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
