Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He was very good. Great vision and positioning. Not perfect and you could tell he lacks experience, saw Gawn direct him a few times, and go over to give him advice. But slotted in very well.

Liked his work rate to get out in space to be an option.

Made a crucial late spoil in the 3rd quarter rolling up from half forward.

Fumbles are definitely a concern but he has the pace to keep running to get out of trouble. I like the way he burst through the middle in the last then re-evaluated and went sideways.

His pressure numbers were good for 55% game time, but a bit of an advantage coming on at 1/4 time.

All in all he looked more comfortable since we last saw him. Does he have the weapons, smarts and composure to excel long term in the trickiest spot on the ground - I’m not sure. But he did the team role and has earned more of a look.

I hope if he does drop back to Casey he gets more midfield time to keep winning contested ball under pressure.

It was his hard running and second and third efforts that impressed me.

I'm quite the fan of Toby - he said he's managed 9 games in the last two years due to Covid and not playing senior football

He is another good prospect that imo can only get better with more game time at the highest level (see Joel Smith)

His challenge will be to hold his spot once some of the GF team that were missing last night are back and available for selection

Showed more then Kade Chandler ever has in his senior appearances.

I thought as the game went on he got better. Goody was really proud of his performance last night. Unlucky not to get that goal in the end.

I'd like to see him with a full game next week.

Really desperately wanted him to kick that goal at the end, love it when young players start a chain and finish it. Poor bloke must have been out of gas by the time he got it.

Given the circumstances I felt he did a really good job and earns a place in the 22 next week.

A solid first game with 9 disposals.  Didnt set the house on fire.  Needs a few more games.....

That's my take, although it was his 3rd game. He worked hard but didn't show enough to say that he belongs at AFL level. May get some more games as a sub, but can't see who he replaces in the starting 22. He's put himself ahead of Chandler in the pecking order.

Agree with you mo64. I can't say that I share the enthusiasm of other posters who rated his game highly. But, obviously, I hope he succeeds.

I agree that Kade Chandler looks a long way short of the required standard.

I feel like people are forgetting that it's not easy to come in and play as a small forward role player.  Spargo, Kozzie and ANB took a while to get settled so Toby deserves a decent crack before people write him off.

I know this is about Toby but I think a few will be eating their words when Chandler gets a proper go at it.  For mine he doesn't quite have the pace that Toby has but has better skills, tricks and hardness (and he's not slow).  Also yet to have a chance to settle at senior level.

An injury to one of Kozzie, Spargo or ANB last year and we would probably be talking about Bedford or Chandler as premiership players.

I thought he was probably our least impactful player. To me he fumbled every time he was in a position to take possession and didn't really demonstrate strong foot or hand skills.

He does, though, have a good tank and leg speed, and he worked hard up and down the ground, which we know Goodwin will demand of a player in his role.

Having said all that, in his post-match interview with the club he reminded us all that the second-tier players have had a really torrid time over the last two COVID years. Toby played twice in 2020 but didn't get a senior game in 2021. With the disruption to the VFL in that time, he said he'd only had 9 competitive games in those two years. It's so hard for him, and others like him, to establish themselves.

I have no problem with him being given more time whilst we have injured best 22 players out, and I'll always have time for hard working players who need to bolster their skills (rather than the other way around), but IMO the jury remains out right now.

I had questions aver his ability earlier last year, but was rightfully corrected by those who watch the Casey games.  Looking at the few times I've seen him in the seniors, it looks like he has the pace and class, but struggles to adjust to the speed of the game.  That's not uncommon with young players when they first make the step up from VFL, so not a damning criticism by any means.  I think he needs to get a decent run at the top level to see if he can make the adjustment and find his place in the side.  If they can give him a month, we might see him having a real impact.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
