NON-MFC: Round 1, 2022

Featured Replies

A few commentators were predicting a Richmond resurgence this year , Why?

Richmond look cooked. No power in the legs. Their younger players are all plodders. Cotchin is finished. Dusty not far behind.

Carlton look good. They looked good against us in the practice game too. Strong midfield and potent attack. Decent backline. Voss is using the “selfless” mantra this year and they are playing a similar style to us. Will cause some damage to the 8.

Always rated Vossy as a coach.  he was sacked to quickly thinking they could find a better option.

Finally clubs are realising experienced coaches are a good option, not just untried.

I am happy for Carlton now, if they get good, it won;t last long

Only heard it from Caro, safe to say she is a little biased

Voss make the rookie mistake with his club at birdie thinking they 1 last run at it and topped up.

He's a good coach and will be much better this timed we'll see consistent improvement in the blues this year.  They should make th e8 if they can sustain it..

Tigers, looking older and not able tout that pressure on for 4 qtrs.  need an injection of younger players to run out games.

I don’t feel well

Let’s see how Carlton go when they aren’t gifted 4 goals every week from the umpires.

Have to say I have been scratching my head over the predictions that the Tiges were going to bounce this season. I just could not work out where that was coming from. after watching a bit of that game I just cannot see them making the 8. Too old....Too slow.... To predictable.

I was going to refer to a Dead Cat Bounce but might save that for the [censored].....

Blues are looing to improve and on that showing have gained on the field, will need to step up a few more to really challenge..... a couple more seasons for them to hit their straps.

The Human race has evolved so far, but there must be higher intelligence out there somewhere. This cannot be it….

I predicted Carlton to be the big improver. Top 4 in fact. Richmond are finished I'm like many bewildered at why Richmond was supposed to improve.

Followed the game on delay and via 'land only ... excellent work peoples and highly amusing

I remember a time not so long ago when we weren't much chop and therefore the other games were often rarely commented on

But now that we're the Reigning Premiers (with a terrific win to start the season) the mood is way different.  We're looking for the challengers instead of vice-versa

[censored] me, I thought Carlton were a chance and tied them into a decent multi.

Early signs suggest they are [censored].

Well....that didn't age well 🤣

But maybe they will (except when they play Footscray of course)

Only 72,000 at the "traditional season opener"? Will there be head shaking over this crowd size, too?

Tigers' fuel last year was belief and they nearly made the 8 based on that. Doubts must have set in now. How many losses before the belief evaporates and they plunge down the ladder?

I know it’s extremely early days but we host Carlton in round 22.

Ding-dong battle between Oscar and Tom in the vein of Carey/Jakovich, Lockett/Silvagni, Flower/Greig or Hart/Knights. Should crack 90,000.

Whenever I’m feeling down & need a laugh I know I can always go back & watch this biased peanut give us one of her delusional takes 😆

Oscar did well.  Good on him .... seems like a nice guy. I hope he has a good season*.

*excluding the match/es against MFC.

.I marginally wanted Richmond to win but not by much. If they deep sixed Carlton, we never would have heard the end of talk about how ‘OMG! Richmond are back!!!’

Please excuse my ignorance, but what does this mean, to ‘deep six’ a team?

Seeing Hardwicks reaction to the loss in the coaches box after the game said it all for me, he looked at a loss and a bit of resignation that they might have stuffed this all up.... I loved it!!!!

deep-six

verb
INFORMALNORTH AMERICAN
  1. destroy or dispose of (something) irretrievably.
    "someone had deliberately deep-sixed evidence"

Morning cup of tea and Richmond BigFooty page after a loss.  Two of my favourite things.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
