Apparently Hunter isn't in the Doggies' side.

Possibly practising his limbo dancing? Or driving practice/lessons?

Am I the only one that can't stand that bloke?

Someone broke into our house on the weekend and stole our limbo sticks .

How low can you go ??????

With Rivers and Petty missing from the GF side Gus’s selections are Hunt and Smith to replace them and Max has gone with Hunt and Tomlinson. This is from their ‘selection segment’ on their podcast unless there’s a left field selection.
Pretty obvious it would be those 3, interesting to see who misses out.

I would say Max is more on the money with Tomlinson over Smith. Both played the entire pre season but you'd imagine they'd go with Tomlinson who has had more runs on the board and is probably more dependable than Smith.

Hunt would need to dramatically improve his performance from the Carlton game if he's selected. However we need a medium sized defender to replace Rivers.

Jordon would have to be some sort of chance given he's always the 22nd/23rd player in the mix?

I just read Hibbo has been ruled out today, he hasn’t overcome some calf issue from a few weeks ago.

An old boys calf - doesn't bode well.

I can not believe they are still going on about that song! It's one thing to get inside the oppositions' heads, it's another when they seem hellbent on keeping us in there.

I hope we put them to the sword on Wednesday.

It's really just embarrassing for them that it's still coming up. I'm sure they've got a lot more to worry about than some song. FFS

Thanks for the info.

As long as our 'Generals' (May, Salem and Lever) are fully fit (they all missed one practice game) I'm pretty confident our back line won't miss a beat.  Bowey is still in.  Tomlinson is a strong addition and Smith/Hunt can be the role players.

I just hope we don't put Gus down back like against the Carlton game.

so that's 3 of our premiership back 6 missing in petty, rivers, and now hibberd

it is amazing that a premiership team has never played together again across the course of the history of the vfl / afl competition

Hibberd's calf not too bad apparently, confirmed will miss, but not too far off.

Also interesting we did the captain's run at Port Melbourne.

On AFL 360 Goodwin said the players won't be on the ground when the flag is unfurled as it doesn't fit into pre-game prep timelines.

Is that typical?

As he said it is for the fans so I'm happy.

Possible Melbourne line up

B: J.Smith, May, Lever

HB: Salem, Tomlinson, Bowey

C: Langdon, Petracca, Brayshaw

HF: Neal-Bullen, McDonald, Pickett

F: Fritsch, B.Brown, Spargo

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

IC: Harmes, Hunt, Jackson, Sparrow

SUB: Jordon

EMERG: Weideman, Chandler, Dunstan

Possible Casey line up

B:  Buntine, Turner, D.Smith

HB: Baker, White, Reid

C: Zaharakis, Dunstan, Howes

HF: Melksham, van Rooyen, Chandler

F: Lonie, Weideman, M.Brown

FOLL: Daw, Jordon, Munro

IC: Laurie, Rosman, Woewodin, Bedford

EMERG: McVee, Moniz-Wakefield, Grey

I think Turner maybe injured if so Buntine goes to full back, McVee to the back pocket. I'll be going to the practice match on Thursday so I will try and keep everyone up to date.

Not really given unchanged linesup are rare during a season, let alone after an entire off season. We got close though.

And being  nerd I looked at the last 50 years of VFL/AFL and the most common by a long way of changes from the Flag team to the Round 1 team the next year is 3.

So we've now got our 3 identified.   I was rapt Hibberd was in the team once May went down in the PF.  Huge fan.

This time hoping May/Lever and the rest stand up for the full game.

A well thought out move.  Keeps players fresh avoiding long drive to Casey day befroe the game. (Langdon's not a big fan of the Fitzroy to Cranbourne trip)

Easier media acces.

Has anyone seen a running sheet with the times of the Flag unveiling and other parts of the before game activities?

Haven't seen a program, per se but someone (on AFL 360 or OTC) said flag unfurling @ 6.35.  Goodwin (AFL 360) said players not on field.

Then game proceedings as usual for a start time of 7.10 pm.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
