We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Thought Bowey started to come good towards the end but I agree it wasn't their best performances.

That being said other than Rivers errant handball in the 4th Q there were no howlers.

An interesting tactic with Pickett being at the centre bounce for the start of each quarter. It got me to wondering if it was more about forward set up as he only appeared at the first bounce of each quarter.

Did you not watch many games last season DJ. Was used most games last year.

joe boy and ST - whose place would Joel be pressing? Bowey? Rivers? Hibberd?

Bowey I think is safe unless he struggles next week. Hibberd took Joel's spot last year so he's the obvious one, but Rivers isn't a lock, and nor is Tomlinson to simply step in for Petty either.

He did that last year too, particularly in the early rounds.

Rivers was a lock in our premiership year. I can't see how he wouldn't be next year.

I have little doubt that in the first instance Smith will come in for petty.

Not sure where that leaves thommo

It might be that Tomlinson won't be ready (or, at least won't be risked) for the rigours of a real match until a few weeks into the season.

Maybe. Though he looked good today.

But Smith is more suited to Petty’s role with his ability to zone off, spoliation and take intetcept marks.

Smith was dynamic today

This is so unimportant...but...I really don't like the lighter blue Zurich logo. Much preferred the previous version which blended into the blue on the body of the jumper.

that's the point though......zurich don't want to just blend in, they want to stand out

light blue is their real colour.....and they are a major sponsor paying big bucks

We just won a flag for them and gave them huge incentives to sign on. It seems a trend across the comp that sponsors logos are getting more obtrusive and it’s really disappointing.

Worried about Salem, that was incredibly nasty.

Would also like some reassurance May was planned. Hibbo was also looked at by the trainers and didn’t play the last 20 or so.

Backline was excellent given our midfield and forwards took a while to get going early. North were pretty decent for a quarter and a bit until they got tired.

We bombed it to talls on the flank/wing for a while before the game opened up and we started to play more.

Backline:

Joel Smith did look more confident and willing to spoil. Hibberd was excellent I thought. Tomlinson does provide more run and carry and short kicking which is a different look for us. Bowey wasn’t as sharp as usual which surprised me.

Mids:

Langdon was Langdon. Oliver and Tracc motored. Rucks were excellent. Sparrow has his moments.

Forwards:

Nibs, Spargo and Pickett great. BBB too big. Tommy was Tommy. At times he’s an excellent match up problem who can clunk it and cover ground like a mid, at others he’s struggling to defend and doing odd things with the ball.

Chandler kicked 2 classy goals and has his moments, but he can’t seem to evade good defenders, doesn’t offer much at all in the air and is just a bit messy. I’d like to see him as a midfielder more than a forward.

I don't see it in Chandler to be honest. Haven't from the start and today's game didn't change that opinion. I too would like to see Bedford given a full game next week.

I thought Smith did a great job shutting down Zuharr or however you spell it.

Bowey was a bit sloppy and wasteful, but we forget that he's only 19 years of age and has played 7 games. Just clearing the rust.

Seven (7) games and we're expecting him to play like a 200 gamer. It's good being premiers. And with a deeper list than we've seen in 50+ years.

The year is 2072. Jake Bowey is at a gentleman's club smoking a cigar.

Bowey: "Training facility wi' two MCG-sized ovals and one oonder coover? Looxury. I 'ad to get oop at 9AM, drive 300 mile to Casey to train, play seven matches, seven mind you, play in premiership AND I 'ad to do the 'ole finals series in Perth! An' you try and tell that to yoong people today!"

What do you mean by "BBB too big"? In a good way, meaning he was too big for North to counter; or in a bad way, meaning he was too immobile or we looked unbalanced in the forward line?

What exactly did Salem injure? I missed the incident, so have no idea. Can someone give a brief rundown?

Had his legs taken out but as reported seemed to walk off unaided, only a couple of minutes to go so no point leaving him on.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
