Interesting (and really good) to see that ANB won the coaches award. I remember when he got unfairly screwed by the MRO for his dangerous tackle against Adelaide last year (deserved suspension but not the length), I genuinely thought that could be the end of him. But the club stuck fat with his, he came into the pre-season same as TMac with a clean slate and rejuvenated attitude, and became the true definition of a clubman and a role player. He clearly loves the club, and is loved by his teammates. I’m more than happy to eat humble pie with my previous beliefs on what he would be as a player. 

The other thing to note, as you’d expect from such a great year, is the players that ended up outside the top 10. Fritta had an incredible year, Brayshaw sacrificed to play a team oriented position, Spargo always cracked in, and Jackson won the Rising star. I don’t think any of them would begrudge their positions, they ultimately got to taste the greatest victory of all!

Sort of ... but the club shopping ANB round (and TMac), but there wasn't any real interest in either.

ANB was great the whole season. TMac was fantastic the first half of the season, but dropped off towards the end.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but it struck me as being incredibly poetic and reflective of the entire 2021 season that the two players told to look elsewhere during the off-season were the same two players that had the final 2 disposals in the grand final.  Oliver marks, handballs to Neale-Bullen who short kicks to McDonald.

And it's fitting that they round out the top 10 in the B&F.

What a year.

Agreed and then when you take Langdon with those to, to me it shows how valued by the match cttee is work ethic.  

Not saying the total top 10 don't work hard , they do, but Nibbler and Langdon , and now Tmac are just gut runners extraordinary for the team and would have contrinuted to their finishes in the B and F.

Hard to believe Fritsch kicked 59 goals in a season of footy but can’t crack the top 10.

Although in fairness he plays in a position where you’re prone to a quiet game or 2.

Tmac finishing in the top 10 is also a fair effort considering he didn't do much in his last 6 weeks after his injury. Shows what a great start to the year he had.

Agree. It seems pretty weird that Jake Lever scored 498 or 49.8% for that season.

Langdon does both. 

Look, I am not going to sit here and criticise Angus because he is now a champion Demon but the winger role is one that requires defensive positioning and mindset and Langdon did that and was able to link up in the forward half too. He was that good. Angus had games where he was able to do that and the GF was an absolute willingness by him to make the dogs pay whenever they wanted to avoid Langdons wing, which a number of teams did in 2021.

In the heat of a grand final, when everything was on the line, Gus performed, which is exactly what we would want of any player. Gus now premiership hero. Go Gus! Harmes, Kozzie ... lean pickings on the stats sheet, but contributors in big moments. They can all hold their heads up.

You sound exactly like me, Mazer. I’m still saying this to anyone who’ll listen and even a few who won’t; well, tbh, to myself mostly. 😁 Melbourne… Premiers. Still feels a little incongruous.

Last Saturday Whispering Jack reminded us that next Saturday, xmas day, will mark three months since that absolutely glorious night in September. Three months!!! Not only has time flown, but this awesome post-premiership feeling hasn’t diminished one iota. Moreover, it hasn’t fully sunk in. Well, for me, anyways. I don’t know if it ever will. And you know what??? I don’t mind if it never does!

Just not in front of 1500 people  - that will terrify most.

On the big stage though he just lets his play do the speaking.

Gus Brayshaw played his best game for the season in the GF. Very suited to the 'hand to hand' combat in a GF. Very good at dropping back and doing the heavy lifting.
