Fingers crossed he only has mild symptoms

Golly, Ron. Hope you have sidestepped an infection. An entire army of Demon fanatics are respectively praying for your good health and well being. Carna Ronald Dale!

In the celebration thread i posted about this  event . It wasnt stated who was possibly sick  but i thought of rdb . There was tom  browne tweet saying he was unwell but no details . Sounds like the event may have had ex players and coaches from us , kangas and dons?they are likely to be 70 plus

There is a quirk of human nature as to how people are regarded. After Ron left us at the end of 1964 he spent 7 years at Carlton (premiership Coach ‘68 and ‘70), 8 years at North (premiership coach ‘75 and ‘77) and another 3 years coaching Sydney.

Despite 18 years and 4 flags elsewhere he is almost exclusively known as a Melbourne person and seems to regard himself as a Melbourne person too.
Long live RDB!

Who was the mug here? It was not RDB. Bonus clue: my avatar.

I was always hopeful the club would nominate Ron to unfurl the flag. So just get well and save up Ron for that unbelievable monent in the Club's history.

Cannot think of anyone else even close to RDB for this Sunday, so Pert and Roffey need to weave their magic on this (they haven't let us down yet).

SWooper maybe - premiership players and GF Dees coach that gave us back our self-belief and got Robbie Flower to the finals stage???

Hope the great Ronald Dale Barassi and his Wife recover quickly.

I also agree that RDB should unfurl the 2021 Premiership Flag at the Demons first home game at the MCG. It would be a fitting tribute.

In place of RDB while he is unwell, I would actually like Hassa Mann as a remaining Demons Premiership player from 1964 and/or Nathan Jones to present the 2021 AFL Premiership Cup.

Get well soon RDB

Such a shame for RDB. But his health (and ours) is much more important that being there on Sunday.

Hope he and his lovely wife have a speedy recovery.

I guess it'll be left up to Mark Neeld to hand over the cup 🤣

With Barassi, Flower and Stynes  out of the question I'm hoping for Tingay

With all his reported good work with the past players, I think Rod Grinter would be a good pick.

You could be onto something with Hassa Mann Supreme Demon.

Overall

Succeeded RDB as Skipper.  But Nathan would do me also.

Pretty disappointed he won't be there on Sun. Seeing him present that cup would have been what we were all waiting for. I'm not gonna forget that look in his eyes when he came up the stairs in his apartment and saw the Cup sitting there.

I'm equally ok with Hassa Mann or Nathan Jones. Just don't make me choose!

Noel McMahen and John Beckwith are still in the land of the living!

Hoping he recovers. We’ve lost too many Melbourne legends

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
