Luke flats with my mate's son. Said the other two clubs that interviewed him basically said the same thing - "what can you bring to us".

Luke said Dees said to him "this is what we can offer you".

My friend said Luke is a ripping young man and was hoping he'd land at the Bombres (her team).

Saints second best in terms of coaches votes!

It really is bizarre they'd let him walk. Definitely could've attracted something in return the Saints, maybe not from us, but from someone.

Seems like very good fortune for the Dees

He was an unrestricted FA wasn't he, so the moment the Saints let go all interest in him as a player, they really didn't deserve anything in return from him from anyone.  Just another really shrewd list management move from the MFC, not to pay big for Cerra.  Get LD and pick 17.  If that's not what you call having your cake and eating it too, I don't know what is.

100% if Jack Viney goes down (he's had a few injuries in recent years) Dunstan is just about the perfect ready made replacement.

during our lul this year i did think we missed Vineys hardness around the ball. as tough as Petracca and Oliver are, they're better with Viney in there.

I also think it's extremely healthy to have extreme pressure on the AFL side to hold their spot. especially in a team like ours, where players will be keen to get in and stay in to grab a medallion

1. Sparrow would also not the role (Viney back up) but Dunstan could walk in too

2. Of course pressure on places in the team is a must - no way do I expect complacency to creep in, but if it did ...

A well run, destination club…. I just can’t…. Believe it’s US after all of these years.

Apples and oranges here, @Kent, to be fair.

Dunstan was playing first-string midfield minutes in his games at St Kilda this year.

None of Harmes, Jones or vandenBerg were.

I think that will explain why his disposal and clearance numbers are well in front of the other three.

Impressive interview, and you can tell he'll be a good fit culturally. The footy is the footy, and who knows what the team may look like come round 1, round 18, QF, or GF next year.

I don't know where he will play but I don't think it will be at Casey.

It's extrordinary that he got the 2nd most coaches votes for St Kilda and the coach wanted to get rid of him,

Hate to quote myself but had a rethink about it. Maybe it was the opposition coaches giving him votes?

But isn't that the point - that Dunstan is a first-string midfielder and the others aren't?

First string midfielder at St.Kilda is very very different to first string with the premiers

Melbourne were lucky on Grand Final day. Footscray were well in front and playing the best footy of the game, then fatigue from playing 7 straight games on the road finally caught up with them. If Melbourne want to take credit for that they are delusional. There last 1 and half quarters was the best footy played all year, against a team that had nothing more to give.

That  jealousy and envy is hard to comprehend all at once.  At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how these muppets rated us, if we got lucky etc.  We did it all season FFS, finished on top of the ladder and wiped floor with the competition in finals.  It doesn't get much more comprehensive than that.  Suck it up lads.

No idea who Phil Lewis is, but what I do know is that he hasn’t the slightest idea of comprehending football.

We were the best team all year, the best team in the finals, and the best team on GF day. We dominated for 2.5 quarters, they did for 1.5 quarters. Let’s not forget that the Dogs had easy EF’s and PF’s, throw in the extra week before the GF.............yeah fatigued my [censored] Phil. Get a clue you muppet.

Probably Phil Scully thinking he has everyone fooled 😂

Yes but lets face it ..... He will Enhance what is already a fiercely formidable unit!

I would think winning a GF and by 74 points is a tastier cake, Balls 😁

Goodwin always seems to say similar with players we want.

#selfless

For anyone worried he isn’t up to our standard, watch the Rnd 14 replay against the Tigers. Wet and cold Friday night big stage, lined up against Dusty often in the middle Luke had 32 quality touches, 1 goal and 3 Brownlow votes.

If that is your injury cover, that’s sensational

Just imagine if he shines like Powell did or even something close to it. I can see StK supporters opening a vein….. ‘faaaark Petracca, faaaark Dunstan…’ Ratten will definitely cop some heat if he plays more than 10 games for us.

Must say I met Ratten a number of times when I was living in Christmas Hills, around Yarra Glen, always polite and up for a gas while we waited for Pizza or whatever. I think he needs a reboot of his assistants seems to work for some coaches.

Ratten was an assistant coach at the MFC and was well liked but again the being a Head Coach is a different kettle of fish some time good assistant coach make rubbish head coaches, Neeld was an example all theory and little application.

Something just made me think of Luke Ball.

It's a similar situation except that in Dunstan's case he's been pushed out, there isn't the slightest hint of mercenary, and as of yet the St Kilda coach hasn't bagged out the ex-player.

The situational contrast with Ball is making me realise how mad the Saints are to push Dunstan away. When they lost Ball they had four diverse midfielders each with 15+ Brownlow votes that year; Goddard, Montangna, Dal Santo and Hayes.

I dont think we recruited this guy to run around at Casey!! As iterated it makes a formidable midfield even more supreme!

Luke Dunstan career disposal average is 20.91 per game. I think you quoted his averages from this season

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
