Imagine Nev from 3-4 years ago in this defence. The other team would never score.

He was magic. His brutality when tackling was so good. I agree with you that vintage 2018 Nev in the side now would mean that literally nobody scores a goal against us from an inside 50 kick. 
Underrated by the entire footy world, but true Dees fans know what a star he was.

    Shouting at the top of my lungs “I love you Nev Jetta!” during the 2018 final against Geelong when he was within earshot on the wing was a nice item to tick off the bucket list.

    Would’ve got an AA nod if there was any justice. At his peak there was no small defender better at executing their most critical role.

    I loved what he did for the MFC. One of my all time favorite players. So strong, so passionate about his culture and his history, and so articulate. And, yes, the man could play. His highlight package on You Tube is simply not long enough.

    Huge respect for Neville Jetta as a player and what he has brought to the Club on and off the field. So many instances of one on one magic, usually pitted against a much bigger opponent. His commitment was always 110%. Hopefully a mentoring role at MFC awaits.

    He was a player who got the very best out of himself and it was a pity he could not be a part of the team who got a reward for years of good service to MFC.

    It was unfortunate that Bowey and Salem had passed him by in the small lock down defender.

    Not many players who are as quality as Nev end up having even more impact on a club simply due to the person they are, but the Lord is clearly one of them. I perceive our cultural values to be family, selflessness, competitiveness and fairness; and Nev is the epitome of every one of those. Thanks for all the highlights, on and off field, champion.

    Being serious, Nev was as honest as the day was long, resilient, reliable and loyal. It should be remembered that he was a bit lost until the end of ‘13 with no real position to call his own. When Roosy came in ‘14, he nailed that small lockdown defender position down to the point where he was holding blokes like Eddie Betts to one or two goals. 

    Like Nate, it would have been perfect to see him play in a flag winning team but fairytales rarely happen not only in footy, but life. Nonetheless, Nev should be remembered as a great club man who will always be associated with our club and welcome back anytime.👏

    Brilliant and unsurprising to see him continue to shine off the field. As much as those colours disgust me, I am thrilled for him and can’t wait to see what he does in the future.

    I believe he’s playing in their VFL team, so he may still get the chance to shine on the field as well as off.

    Nev's evolution, growth and desire to work for a higher purpose has been a pleasure to watch over the years. 

    There's no limit to his ambition and the path he is forging will be long lasting. 

    He could be anything. 

    Love the fella.

    Also worth mentioning, along with his playing career, his off-field service. Winner of the Jim Stynes Community Leadership award in 2018 "selected for his work supporting indigenous youth through various school-based programs" and also an ambassador for the Red Cross and Headspace. The full package is what makes him a champion.

    It's an interesting article. It's disappointing that there are apparently only 3 indigenous coaches in the AFL system at the moment. According to the article, the other two are Xavier Clarke at North and Jason Williams at Port.

    Has there ever been an indigenous senior coach? (Barry Cable? Polly Farmer?)

    He played a one off game for Corowa Rutherglen the other week the nuffy fan boy in me had to go and watch obviously. 

    He hasn't lost any of his touch and still dominated. 

    Too some him up around his character he played the one off game with no match payments.. just wanted to help a mate out.

    Farmer coached Geelong in the mid 70’s. I used to occasionally go and watch training when I worked down there.

    • NON-MFC: Round 09

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

    • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
