POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Just woke up with a well earned sore head.

Congrats to everyone on Demonland. I’ve been posting on here for around 15 years I think it is, and while the congratulations from friends is nice, I think of all the people on here who have sat through this period, watching each and every game. From celebrating the small wins along the way, to the many arguments when things looked lost. I’ll never forget last night, and hopefully we can do it again next year at the G with everyone there.

I can't believe it.

I can't believe this has happened.

Not ashamed at all to say I cried after the final siren.

We've been through so much here on Demonland, as all Melbourne supporters have. To finally do it, is just unreal.

A quick shout out to @Wiseblood, who I hope still kicks around here, as well as @Rogue and @45HG, two of the posters who were constants on here during the terrible eras. Hope you guys are lapping this up wherever you are now.

GO YOU MIGHTY DEMONS!!!!

Mate, I've been a bit absent of late, but funnily enough I actually thought about messaging you and a few others (including 45) today!

I was actually in Perth for the grand final and was at the game - incredible. Still can't believe we're premiers! I honestly don't know when it'll sink in...no matter what happens, we'll always have this flag!

Shout out to @H_T too, all the guys who were in the Best XI cricket threads, the mods from way back including @Nasher, and a couple of guys who I enjoyed the posts of who now have different names, including @Pollyanna. We did it! Go Dees!

The significance of this moment will never be lost on me:

The connection between Stynes and Gawn and the heartbreak of 1988, there was something poetic about it all.

Sure, we probably still win the flag if Gawn misses but I just love that we fininshed on top of the ladder. We were the best team all year and it just proved it and makes this premiership (still can’t believe it) all the more sweeter.

How’s the head going Demonlanders?
Every bit of vision you watch over the coming days will most likely cause you to shed some tears. It’s probably been mentioned but seeing Kozzie trying to hand his medal to Neville Jetta on the boundary celebration got to me big time.

I arrived in Australia in 1991. I fell in love with the local religion, football. I barracked for the Demons because of fellow Irishmen, Jim Stynes and Sean Wight. I went to games with Irish mates who also barrack for the Demons. The club is like family for a fella who is a long way from home. After everything that has happened in the last 30 years, this is a great day. We miss Jimmy and Sean. They would be so proud today. I am proud to be a Melbourne member. We have a great club that we can all be proud of. I can’t wait to do more screaming at the ‘G! See you there! I love yee all.

Morning Green Demon. Sean was a Glaswegian although he was scouted from County Kerry where he played Gaelic football. His nickname at the club was haggis.

Wow!!!!!!

Congrats all enjoy it.

Special thanks to the planning years ago, when we told Alan Richardson he would come to us while he was Saints Coach and he gratefully took McCartin in the draft leaving us the Norm Smith medallist. Premierships are planned years before.

We smashed the other contenders each game.

Unbelievable, we are back.

Go Dees.

I still can't believe what happened last night. I honestly thought I would never see a flag. I love this team.

To my long departed grandfather, who virtually forced me to become a Melbourne supporter when I was 4 years old, all is forgiven.

Thanks Demonland. While I only recently joined, I have been lurking for years. The pain of not being able to share this victory with other Melbourne fans has been lessened by reading your posts.

Go Dees!!!!

They are certainly due for a choke, they've got all the pressure really we've got a massive out if we lose.

If we win it's the greatest flag ever.

If they win, they beat that team that copped a raw deal.

These guys have surprised me this year with their new found mettle; I'm waiting for the real Demons to appear.

Love the inflated confidence and feeling hard done by. They bottomed out at the wrong time - chucked the game against Port to guarantee top 4 and then gifted by the umpires their semi final win against the Lions…talk about a raw deal lol give me a break.

Can’t see us choking from here and if anything the opposite is more likely…

To all of us long suffering Dee's supporters, celebrate hard and enjoy the moments to come. It has been an incredibly long and frustrating journey barracking for the Dees for 57 years, but oh boy was it worth it last night (not so sure about my head this morning though). To all the players present and past, to all the staff, helpers, volunteers and anyone else associated with this football club, thank you, thank you, thank you!  To the administrators  and contributors to this site, thank you for keeping us people away from the heartland informed of the goings on around the club, without you we would be in a black hole. Thank you one and all. Go Dees!!

Fair to say he got a better reaction than the last time he was captured on camera chugging a beer.

I am so proud of our club.

I have never felt so much PURE JOY for the MFC.

I love our club and it was worth the wait.

Going through all the hard times has made it so much more rewarding (although I never thought we would get there in my lifetime)

HOW SWEET IT IS.

And too all those oppo supporters who said they’d win a flag b4 us well ef u, how’d ya like that? I’m also now a believer in curses 57/57. Simply incredible team effort, a norm smith medal for all to go with pship medal as far as I’m concerned. Our spirit for Demons past and present has pushed us to this point and made us great again. REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
