Well we’ve finally done it!

after years of conjecture, pontification, debate and both doubt and hope we are the Premiers!!!!!

Thats right , the best team in the AFL, the cup is ours and gawny  is All Australian captain and premiership  captain and Trac is a Norm Smith medalist.
We the long suffering have our flag and I shall sleep well tonight and wake up in the morning with a feeling that no one can ever take away from me.

Go the mighty Dees!!!

I don't give a fig about dynasties, power-clubs, curses, MFCSS, how great Bontempelli is, 186, Neeld, "the benefits of losing", game analysis, mark of the year, goal of the year, recruiting, the trade period, the cricket, Covid, vaccinations, the rise of China, the decline of the US, renewable energy, or any other subject matter.

I am sitting in a quiet lounge room drinking scotch knowing this one simple thing. MFC are 2021 Premiers.

And to all those Essendon supporters after the 2000 Grand Final - eat my shorts! You are carp and we are the best.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!

I am so happy.

This team has really helped me get through this godawful year.

Imagine that.  A consistent and dependable Melbourne team, in my lifetime.

❤️💙

Solid win, bank it and then move onto next week.

In all seriousness. OOOOOHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDD! WE'REEEEEE THE PREMIERSSSSSS!

'ahem'

Some notes from the game

- Petracca. What more can you say? A modern day Demon superstar

- For not the first time this year, our comeback in the third quarter can be attributed to one major change: Playing Jackson in the ruck. This kid was an absolute monster tonight and allowed Maxy to take one of the Dog's key defenders.

- Fritsch had an absolute shocker of a second quarter but kickstarted our demolition job in the third. Just has that uncanny knack of finding space. An absolute nightmare matchup for opposition defenders. Most goals in a Grand Final since Darren Jarman in 1997! Unreal!

Can we take a moment to acknowledge Jake Bowey? This kid was playing in his SEVENTH AFL match and had 8 touches at 100% efficiency by quarter time. Was a big factor in our great start. Was playing a Weightman for a good portion of the game as well who had no influence whatsoever.

- Bittersweet feeling for James Jordon who sadly (or in some aspects, fortunately) wasn't able to get on the ground tonight as the medical sub. Nethertheless, he still receives his premiership medal and played a key role in getting us here tonight.

- May and Lever were arguably both down on their usual impact but both toiled hard. Neither Naughton or Schache were influential tonight so they played their roles just fine.

- Salem oozes class with whatever he does. I know we tied him down for five years earlier in the season, but is there any chance we can extend that?

More to come, maybe, dunno, feel like running around the block naked wearing only my Demon scarf before I do anything else.

We did it!

It's surreal but two observations.

How good was Luke Jackson!

This team was amazingly fit. Kudos to those responsible!

What ended up happening with Darren Burgess' contract? Is he definitely leaving us for Adelaide next season? He has obviously been huge...

What are words for.

GO DEMONS!!!

Outanding performance and proved excellence in recovery from the efforts of the 'notably second best' contenders for the flag. Off their game expetation, with exhaustion, limited resolve or capacity, and a missing skilset that drives Premiership contention. As I said earlier, Geelong were one step away from game time;; however, they remain one setp ahead of the Doggies in terms of threats to the MFC .Farken Nice outcome of course; stunning exhsibition of the respone to '... how the helll did they do that? ... from the second Quarter. Great team effort  - but was it all that terribyly difficult?? Class won, full stop.

That is just unbelievable stuff .... but they have done similar things this year - come from behind v Brisbane, round 23 v Old Cats ....never say die.

A very long time since I have believed and trusted a Demon team so much.

12:15 and I finally make it to demonland. Last few hours have been responding to messages from from all the people who know I love the Dees. Even halfway through the third I still thought we'd win, the mental resilience of this team is the complete opposite of what it once was. No need to go early on this and should just enjoy the moment, but I reckon this is the beginning of a DYNASTY!

Good call.  Seemed to avoid all the cameras and interviews after the game but a great story and a massive contribution since he came into the team.  Such poise for someone so young.

Absolutely awesome, Demons we’re brilliant, I’ve a glow of happiness, and look forward to celebrating at the G next year about this time!!

I thought we were gone for all money 5 mins into the third qtr. The greatest second half I’ve ever seen. It still hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s unbelievable ❤️💙

Any word from Ron Barassi, our last premiership captain?  He would be a proud man tonight.

8 players aged 19-21 are now premiership players

extraordinary

16 premiership players today are 25 or under.  Salem is 26.  Viney 27.  Gawn at 29 will play another 5 years now we have LJ.  It’s going to be an exciting time to be a dees supporter over the next 4-5 years.

100 points to 7 after the turnaround which must be some sort of record

Were they just teasing?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
