So good, happy Hamish called him on that.

Gee wizz didn't see that coming. Well done football department. I want one more but this is a night to have some pride in this football club!

Credit to Joel Selwoods comments in the rooms too. To be fair Geelong have been an amazingly consistent team for 15 years and their ability to put themselves in a position to compete every year is something I'd love us to emulate.

What did he say?

He said we beat them in pretty much evert facet of the game.

He then said he knows people will say they keep failing in finals but he'd rather be at a club which keeps trying to make it than one which falls down the ladder to rebuild.

Incredible how much difference good player development makes - Bowey exemplifies this.

Kozzie, Jackson, Rivers, Petty,  Jordon, Sparrow.

Yes. We should always remember those words

Always strive to make finals….

What a win! What a 3rd quarter! I said it before and I'll say it again, should bump my thread. Gawn is the best player I have seen. Epic performance tonight. Love the club this is a golden era. Let's win the premiership and finally get rid of the curse.

The Parfitt injury was absolutely massive for them. It wouldn't have changed the result by any means, but he's about their only decent stoppage defender and we absolutely waltzed the ball out of the stoppage all night.

What a great game to watch. Not often you get to celebrate a preliminary final halfway through the second quarter. It shows the difference between playing beautiful football during the season and practicing playing finals football all season. When the pressure went up we were unflustered. We knew what to do.

Young "David" Bowey can take his choice between a long career as a footy player, or as a pop star. that's how good he is.

On cloud 9, just left the ground found a place for a glass of Shiraz and contemplate 2 weeks time. Go Dees

Just that he is proud to be part of a club that is continually competing and fighting to be there at the pointy end...despite being outclassed tonight. Dislike Geelong but fair play to them for sustained competitiveness over the last 30 years. Simply beaten by a better team tonight.

So proud ❤️💙.

I have never in my 51 years seen a better demons team than this one.

Agree except it’s 66 years. Cannot remember a more dominant performance.  55-64 was pretty good though, but to be fair I was young and not taking much notice of the footy.

Go Dees

Let’s now sit back and watch Port and the Dogs beat each other senseless and cop a shedload of injuries. I hope it’s a really hard and close fought game as then the eventual winner will be looking at our slaughter of Geelong and psych themselves out of it. Our winning margin will be the cause of many nightmares over the next couple of weeks.

I just read they traded a second round draft pick for Higgins.

Who then couldn't get into their 22 in the finals and played medi-sub.

Yep this is just cherry on top stuff. Big drop coming for them that will last a number of years.

Perfect summary, AoB. The planning and ability for these guys to have a ‘finals gear’ just can’t be understated. This team is now doing exactly what they were designed to do. And they’re doing it for all of us, which they’ve made wonderfully clear. It’s a beautiful thing in a beautiful game.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
