Made contact with an umpire in a way that can only have been deliberate.

Bit rhetorical this question as we know "stars" rarely get cited in finals. If it was round 1 you can bet he would be done for that.

Thoughts?

GWS star Toby Greene makes contact with umpire Matt Stevic during heated discussion

Absolutely, no excuse for shouldering an ump at a quarter break.

shame because he would have caused problems for Cats.

Deliberate and aggressive. Must get weeks for that. Should probably get something for the throat punch too.

Martin received a fine in 2018 for something similar, it was deemed ‘careless’. Ed Curnow received a one match ban in the same year for making contact with an umpire. Different rules for different players. Greene’s is one of the most intentional I’ve seen, it should be a suspension but fully expect him to be fined.

Definite weeks. Given his past, it’s hard to understand what he was thinking to go anywhere near an umpire.

Well if the AFL would prefer Geelong to win then they will suspend him. If not it will be a fine.

A free for the throat fend when he had a free kick and a player was charging him is fine.

A heavy fine or a week for the umpire contact is appropriate too, because the action was not.

Nothing in it. Fine at best.

Martin lightly touched the ump on the shoulder, and their discussion was said to be amicable.

TBH Stevic had a strange look and continued to discuss something and it didn't look like a report on the spot.

I get the feeling Stevic doesn't want to report him and from the angle we saw, you don't actually see contact.

If Stevic says he was only lightly brushed and he wasn't concerned, it will be a fine.

Otherwise everyone will be at the Tribunal and possibly  Court all week.

I think Toby will cop a fine and that will end it.   Very stupid action and in a final with more to come.

Deliberately knocked into an umpire. He looked at him, he thought about it, he walked through him.

Every footballer, umpire and kid will see that this week and the AFL needs to send a message that you absolutely cannot do this. Ever.

I'd give him 6 weeks.

He is a disgrace. That was aggressive. Nothing polite or respectful about it. Needs to be suspended. Won’t because AFL needs GWS to be successful.

[censored] the cats.

Should be weeks but will only get a fine 🙄

The vision on the AFL site looks damning.

He walked towards him... made no attempt to avoid him and then deliberately shouldered him out of the way

The impact may have been slight but the action and the intent was clear.

I love Toby as a player but tis was one step too far in our game.

Wow just about shoulder charged the umpire.

Accident or not (definitely was not an accident), he needs to get weeks for that. Such a bad look.

In the past that would have earned a justified 4 to 6 week holiday. Intentional physical contact with an umpire.

If that prat gets off lightly I'll go heave.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
