RIP Carlton

How do you feel about Frittas cut?

I don't see why Alistair Clarkson couldn't take a year out of football to coach Carlton.

Great Review by the Blues Board, who appointed the Coach. Review conclusion is : everything is great, bar the Coach.

Disappointed you didn't mention 'Boy' Bolton; here is a club that has appointed 2 coaches who never played the game at the top level, which is something the players have over them.

I don’t think playing at the top level is necessarily essential. There are other examples of coaches who didn’t but went alright - Neil Craig and Chris Fagan spring to mind.

. There's a sense of entitlement and almost ownership wherein these so called 'Captains of Industry' become all knowing across areas where they are clearly not. Whilst a different scenario, I reckon you could draw parallels with Jeff Kennett in terms of that desperate need to be seen as the main man. Most at Hawthorn will tell you that he success at Hawthorn was set up prior to Kennett and certainly in spite of him and not because of him.

What Kennet did do he brought in a sht load of money, before the Hawks went to Tassie ST. Kilda WAS THERE, they pulled out sightings not makeing enough money, then the Hawks went there on a better deal with [censored] loads MORE money, this only happens because politicians are all corrupt, and they look after each other.

Neil Craig played over 300 game in the SANFL, and that was before the crows come in the AFL, it was a very high standard.

They must have a shed load of money if they can pay Jack Martin $900k who plays like he is in semi-retirement.

Don't shed a tear for them, they should Have been investigated for tanking, after a player and former assistant said they tanked.

No problem with theirs. I think Teague’s bothers me because it’s like looking at a photo  of me at 12 years old

This saga reminds me of a presentation given by our former CEO Peter Jackson. To make a long story short, get the administration right, then the football department, and the on-field results start to flow 3 to 5 years later.

We learnt the hard way. Doesn't seem to have sunk in at Carlton yet.

And long may it continue

Geez the Carlton board and nonces. There's many paragraphs to be written about undermining, and overselling, and expectations management, and just pure arrogance. But let's break it down into just one simple statement of what

Before Teague arrived Carlton had won FOUR of the previous FORTY games.

They gave him two seasons.

As much as I passionately despise Carlton, this has to go down as the cherry on the cake of a decade-long era of atrocious governance decisions.

Take the Blues jumper out of it (because it makes me want to celebrate their suffering) , and remove emotions, I see it like this:

  1. One of the reasons for sacking him is unclear gameplan. Could not disagree more. Their game plan looks similar to Essendon's, but their skills and decision making with ball in hand were atrocious.
  2. List has some genuine strengths and some genuine holes.
  3. Horrendous year for injuries. Most of their forward line was out at one time or another.
  4. Player development (like the Dees for many years up until recently) is their biggest issue.
  5. Most of their leaders and star recruits seriously under-performing. Cripps, Saad, Williams etc...
  6. Not sure about internally, but from outside Cripps looks a fail as skipper. There is no sense that the players are devoted to him, or are actively following him.
  7. A large number (8 - 10) of the players spoke to board members not supporting their coach. It looks like Cripps was one of them. . This in particular shows things are not right.

I thought Teague was doing a good job, but like Goodwin, Buckley, Hardwick, needs exactly the right people around him to help him turn his coach ideals into wins.

Stuff me I hate the Blues.

Not quite fair. Half the Board is leaving, too. That includes Mark LoGiudice and Jeanne Pratt who have each been there over a decade and therefore overseen the appointment of at least 5 unsuccessful coaches.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
