Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm thinking we will have an advantage over other teams at Optus.

  • It has similar dimensions as the MCG.
  • We played a final there 3 years ago so have experienced the cauldron like atmosphere.  iirc Jordan Lewis said he had never heard anything like it, not even at MCG GF's.
  • We have played about 6 games there in recent years.
  • We have won at least 3 times of those.

No other finalist has anything like that to boost confidence and belief.

So while we can't be there live I'm quite happy to have the remaining finals (after this week) at Optus.

I think it's just the two wins:

Rd 22 2018 -  Win

Prelim 2018 - Loss

Rd 9 2019 - Loss

Rd 1 2020 - Loss

Rd 21 - Win

Weirdly enough have never played Freo at Optus, and have never played WC away from Optus.

On a side note, Port will have a large contingent going over for the GF as South Aussies are free to travel to WA now.

They may not.  Mc Govern has made it clear player/staff families won't be allowed in and any VIP's must do the 14 day quarantine assuming they can get an entry permit.

Can you show me a quote verbatim where McGowan said players families won’t be able to apply for the entry permit and quarantine with the playing group

Yeah I would change my mind if Oliver or Gawn got concussed, that's for sure!!

But as it stands, it would be nice to keep rolling and not have to wait 15 days between a potential prelim and GF, whilst many of us quite frankly have nothing to do with our lives.

On your second paragraph, you need very special permission to attend WA if you're coming from a medium risk state such as VIC in order to even do 14 days quarantine.  Suspect there will be some disappointed non footballing staff and VIP's that miss out if McGowan is consistent with his hard border and health stance.

I agree with you about not having a bye between the PF and GF. Such a break would mean that teams that win the QF and then PF have a two weak break each side of the PF. I'm not sure that's a desirable lead-in to the GF.

I don't see why we can't hold it and just make it for double jabbas only.  Don't open any catering/bars and anyone in the toilets / entry points masked.  1/3rd capacity with distancing.  35,000 and open it up to members only.   NO CORPORATES!  I know it's not this simple and we have to make it of course but no Harmes in dreaming a little surely

This plan would need to include a covid safe travel corridor to & from The Tippler on Wellington Parade.

I didn't say they won't be able to apply for an entry premit.  I said they won't be allowed in.  See below.

That is the paper's heading, not mine.

From the article:

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan says the AFL Grand Final could only be taken to Perth under “very strict guidelines”,

As part of those guidelines, McGowan suggested that only essential personnel would be permitted entry into the state for the game and said families of players and coaches would not make the cut.

“Our intention is that those sorts of groups wouldn’t be permitted to join players coming in. It’d be a very strict and tight regime,” he said.which would include barring families of players and coaches from entering the state".

The last para is stated as a direct quote in the article.

I haven't seen anything to say he has changed his mind.

Edit:  Just saw the subsequent discussion re this being at Subiaco so you are right it is two wins at Optus.

Probably still better than other finals contenders.

Based on that information, the only people that should be permitted to go to Perth (and for the GF) are staff members directly involved on game day.

No families, No directors, no office or merchandising staff, influential sponsors or past greats. Our CEO probably would get an exemption and that's about it.

Cheers for that, just hearing a lot of misquoted stuff across many forms of social media etc. And on here that WA will shut down on 1 case alone.

This is absolutely false as having some knowledge of the previous lockdowns in WA through work and succession planning before lockdowns were announced.

The one case has to have been out and about in the community whilst infectious or been in contact with others whilst infectious who have then gone out into the community

The teams straight away start contact tracing locations attended of the infected person and their close contacts.  After those initial inquiries an assessment is made and decisions are made on imposing restrictions and or lockdowns. We have had cases out in the community previously which did not result in lockdowns, but that really isn’t newsworthy.

My understanding is each qualifying team for the GF if in Perth will get around 12-15k allocated tickets for their members. The other 30-34k tickets will go to other corporates, sponsors and other AFL clubs to sell as packages as per every other GF.

Still a lot of water to go under the bridge yet and I have no issue with and would probably prefer Melbourne getting over it’s current COVID situation and a large majority of Dees supporters getting to witness it.

However as a 40+ year supporter and 25+ year member of the opportunity arises where I get to attend a GF in Perth I’ll be grabbing it

V WCE at Subiaco in 1998, best Melbourne game I have been at, on the old hill there.  Bit similar to 2018 had to win to keep the season alive.

You will be surprised how many Dees supporters there are in the west, WCE V Melb had a good rivalry in the 90s you, the Jackovich Brothers, Chris Lewis and the biting incident and both sides where in good nick in the early 90s, you either followed WCE or hated them in the west, I was in the hate side as it destroyed the WAFL in WA and was looking for a club.

If someone told me two years ago that we would win a flag in 2021 but the Gf would be in Perth and I couldn't get to it  I think my mfcss would get the better of me.

Now I couldn't care less. Just so happy to be in contention.

Good insight into how things work in WA.  Thanks.

What makes me sad about 'no families' is that players will have no-one special (other than club folk) to share the finals experiences with especially for which ever team wins the GF.

I wrote earlier today in this thread that MCG aside, I'm happy to have our finals at Optus as I think we have an advantage over other finalists at that ground.

I've painfully come to terms with not seeing our team play finals but if we win the flag I will be at the G crying and screaming when we unfurl the flag.

I've had a GFG membership for over 20 years and it really hurts that I can't use it because covid restrictions prevent travelling.  I would be equally happy to use it in Perth as I would in Melbourne.  I had an elaborate plan to get to Perth and quarantine until the latest round of lockdowns here.  Not to be.

Enjoy all the games 'Pennant'.  Scream and shout for the rest of us.

Thank you so much Luci! I remember that match like it happened yesterday. I cried loud and I cried ugly. Not unlike last Saturday. Difference is, I didn’t know DL existed at the time so I cried loud, ugly, and alone. Happy tears of course. ❤️💙

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
