wonder if something happened

I think he was being serious as hell, for a change although I did notice a black cloud hovering over his head on a few occasions.

Bayley Farmer. Made it look too easy.

So does Jackson. Just glides around and does as he pleases. A nightmare match up for dud and part time 2nd ruckmen. Finals weapon.

Langers and Spargo back in form at the perfect time.

A negative, Melksham should boot himself over the fence and never return.

I think Sparrow had a pretty ordinary game…. Not the best decisions today. Bowey has settled really well into the side.

Forward line looking very functional without TMac although BBB cannot compete on the wing if he’s out of position. I think the midfield battle was interesting Laird, Sloane, Keys and Seedsman were probably the better group tbh - haven’t checked the stats so could be wrong.

We have waited through a lot of crap for this SWYL

Yep. This is it Old Boy

We could finally see it happen

We have given ourselves the best chance…

Such a shame about the Rona :(

I actually think that was the perfect game for us.

First and foremost, no injuries (as far as we know at least).

Comfortable win in the end, and a comfortable final quarter (which meant A-graders got to rest in the forward line/on the bench).

Got to trial new things - those final few centre bounces we had Jackson, Brayshaw, Sparrow and Jordon in the middle, for example.

Found some form for Fritsch, Langdon, Spargo and Salem. Kicked 100 points with Brown and Fritsch both only playing a half of football and Pickett struggling for most of the game.

And we got challenged, which IMO is far better preparation for next week and the finals than to have had a GC-like romp.

The reality is this match was very close to a dead rubber - the only benefit we gain is that if the Dogs win, we'll finish top 2 even with a loss next week (but if Port wins, we have to win next week or we end up going to Adelaide for the first final).

But all in all I'm really pleased with how that played out.

Bowey looks so composed for a third gamer. Give Jackson the Rising Star award right now. Petracca played a more mature game, which I liked. Thought Lever and Petty did really well in May's absence (I'm going to need a hell of a lot more convincing about Smith).

Somebody please sign Dogga up for a further 5 years.

This kids goanna have a stack of AAs by the end of that!

An acceptable afternoon at the G for the MFC.

Haven’t seen Gawn move like that ever before, some of his movement in and out of traffic lately is crazy for a big guy. Thought Spargo was excellent in the first half, high footy IQ, reads the game so well and had a lot of scoring involvements.

Langdon and Fritsch probably best on for me and pity there was no crowd out there today, imagine the noise cheering Fritsch’s kick through on the siren for a career high.
It looked like we’ve had a rough fortnight at times out there  but job well done in the end.

It's a simple solution as you say don't open the thread.

Gameday threads are full of venting. Some of it mindless. Some of it ridiculous. Always have been. Always will be.

If you can’t accept that, just don’t open them. Easy. Casting judgement on them just makes you look like a turnip.

I disagree with this. This is the true beauty of freedom of speech. You get to see how people react when filled with emotion. I find it quiet insightful.

Honestly some of the game day commentary is ridiculous. Calling it out is valid. I’d do it at the ground if a supporter was having a crack at our players the way some do in the game day thread. I don’t see it any differently just because it’s online.

I reckon the gameday thread has saved many a TV screen. And probs a marriage or two

[censored] I love this team!!!!

How bloody good are we?!?!

❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

The thing i really like about this team is that we seem to have an abundance of every shape/type of afl player. We have super smalls, crumbers, wirey forwards, forwards, medium size bulls, elite speedsters, hard nuts, talls and super talls etc etc.

That was a good win without Viney, May and Tmac.

We’ve definitely played better and some of our method was questionable at times but gee whiz we’d would’ve struggled without Fritsch.

Yeah I’m happy with the win.

We were pretty ordinary at times but I’ll give the guys an out after the preparation they’ve had for matches the last 3 weeks.

Get those 3 guys in fresh as can be next week and we are a completely different outfit.

Brayshaw in the middle at the end. Great to see. He offers us much more than Harmes there and clearly more than Sparrow. Leave him there. Who goes on the wing? Harmes? Viney?

Yes, I know about the selfless team role that Brayshaw has played on the "defensive" wing - I just reckon we get plenty more out of him when he's on the ball.

I wonder who suggested that?

Let’s try this again.

To the people who feel the need to comment on how negative the gameday thread is. Yeah, ya don’t say.

If you can’t accept that, just don’t open them. Easy. Casting judgement on them just makes you look like a turnip.

And if you really want a gameday safe space full of sunshine and rainbows, go nuts. Just keep your “gee this place is so negative” drivel out of the gameday threads. It’s an emotional game.

Spot on people are passionate and they get frustrated

Call out the subject matter of comments themselves, by all means. Making a sweeping judgement on the negativity of gameday threads is inane. Negativity is a given every week. If everyone did what you did the thread would be clogged with judgmental rubbish.

We are Melbourne supporters ffs. We’re going to get antsy.

I feel sorry for Joel Smith who would normally be a shoe in next week based on a game like that, but unfortunately will make way for Maysy. Didn't put a foot wrong.

I badly wanted to use my “what a difference a MAY makes” comment but the great efforts in defence made that impossible.

That game felt exactly like a game where the result didn't matter. We didn't get out of second gear it felt like.

Or was it that we refused to get out of second gear?

They said straight after the game they were going to interview him but couldnt get hold of him so they interviewed Bailey instead....so yeah maybe something happened....

Got some good resting minutes into some key players:

  • Petracca 86% TOG (that's his least since Round 5 vs Hawthorn)
  • Salem 86%
  • Gawn 80% (lowest all season, by far)
  • Jackson 69% (incredible influence despite spending nearly a third of the game on the bench)

Lever 100%, Langdon 95%, Petty 93% allowed us to get some of those rests.

Forge the the game I still can't get over Fritsch! When was the last time we had someone kick 7?

Hardly touched it in the first quarter, that was up there in Farmer 2000 vs Collingwood territory!

Jesse kicked 7 against the Saints back in 2016. But gee, aside from that, you'd have to potentially go back to Robbo against the Pies on QB in 2007.

I'm assuming the Gus/Sparrow/Jacko centre square at the end was because the big guns were on the bench being looked after

He's too slow to play in the middle for more than a cameo now - he can't react / change direction fast enough.  It would be offset if he had elite skills but he turns over handballs frequently too.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
