Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hi Jaded,

Really good question, and something that I have been thinking about over the last couple of weeks. Would be interested to hear @Clintosaurus thoughts too.

I will buy a Tassie membership yes. Would my allegiance swap, I don't really know, but overtime, I suspect that it would probably.  That said, knowing that we had so many Tassie players (or tassie born players) being stars for the Demons over my years, it's pretty incredible to think that Lyon and Neitz were both Tassie born, we had the Febey twins, Andy Lovell, Russell Robertson, Ben Beams, Brad Green, Jeremy Howe, Garland, Lamprill. But there were players before that like Ray Groom, Stuart Spencer, Ivor Warne-Smith, MaX Walker, Bob Johnson...
Our club has had a strong linkage with Tassie players, as has St Kilda, Richmond and many of the Melbourne Clubs in truth. Riewoldt x 2, Peter & Paul Hudson, Alistair Lynch, Richo, ...
Anyway, I don't think I'd lose the fondness for Melbourne, but I think I would grow a strong attachment to the new team (plus working a 5 minute walk from Macquarie Point) is certainly appealing.

Thanks for your reply.
I would also be interested to hear from anyone else on Demonland who is Tasmanian regarding the same question.
Will you swap teams? Will you buy membership to one or both clubs?

Anyone see/hear anything that could be construed as disturbing from tone of conversation on AFL 360 last night in regard to the slotting in of future pioneer coaches at TS devils?

With the inevitable cupboard placement of the Hawthorn Debacle....etc

I will always be Demons #1 but will be buying a membership for the Hobart games, and will be supporting the Mariners (that is what I hope the name is) in every game they play except against MFC.

Hopefully ferries are in full effect by the time 2027 comes around so I can walk 15 minutes to the local jetty and boat up and back. Consuming a few frothies on both trips of course.

I'm hoping we will get a nice looking traditional jumper and avoid Gold Coast levels of eye sore.

We already a have a few teams with vertical stripes, yolks/chevrons, sash's and central emblems. Therefore I thought the doggies two horizontal stripes template could be utilised. Was bored last night at work so found a page to play around with. I'm no graphic designer so go gentle on me. Will be interested to see what other people come up with over the coming years.

As an impartial football fan I think this is the most exciting announcement for the AFL since Adelaide joined. This is a genuine football state, that has provided some of the stars of the competition for a hundred years, finally getting the team they deserve.

I can't wait to go there and see a game. I genuinely wish it nothing but financial and cultural success, not just for the people of Tassie, but also to show the AFL that it should look after the communities that already support it - before chasing after speculative communities.

It's all about the media rights and there aren't many eye balls in Tassie. They are going to struggle, the go home factor will be large. Imagine 20 year olds sent to Tassie wanting to stay past 2 years. Qld and WA 20  year olds already want to go home now.

You’d hate to suck in 2025-2030

We need to be really smart here given that the core of our group is already around 27 years old. We certainly don't want to be out of our premiership window and bottoming out in the middle of compromised drafts (again). Hopefully we can bring in some serious talent this year with what is a strong draft hand, and extend that window as long as possible.

Yep makes the gift of Freo sucking even more important.

Perhaps we won't try to bundle early picks and take our chances with a couple of good first round picks that would help balance our the list's demographic.

How is Tasmania different to Geelong? It's got twice the population. If they get their internal culture right, they could become a very sort after destination. Kozzie doesn't want to go home - because the culture of our club is strong.

Everyone goes on about eyeballs. There's a lot of eyeballs in Western Sydney - but less than half of a percent of them turn up for a game of AFL there. It's not as simple as population, or else everyone would be starting teams in Tokyo and Shanghai. It's also about culture.

The vast majority of my WA born and bred mates switched to the Eagles only when the AFL was formed in 1990 rather than 1987 when they entered the VFL. Not many of them cared much for the VFL and were more interested in the WAFL. I think it varied in the sense that if you were a football player in that era you would support the State league, versus an observer and supporter who jumped at the chance to support a WA club in the VFL due to parochialism more than anything.

Some then even changed from the Eagles to Freo when they entered the league in a ‘south of the river’ vs NOR mentality.

Old Dee, you are exceptionally negative... and wrong.

I was going to attempt to dispute or sway your perspective, but I've come to realise there is no point,. you appear to love wallowing in negative & pessimistic thoughts.
Hope the significance of today, and the joy of the AFL community doesn't disrupt your day too much.

I reckon a version of this should get a look-in: dispense with the V and have a simple fat T, its 'cross' being a Fitzroy-type yoke(?) and it's 'down' being a StKilda-type middle stripe. Colours as determined for the club (the above seem the go...)

Anyone want to mock this up?

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
