Ok. Though obviously they must check injury status with the club.

On the coaches voting front, some posters thought viney had a stinker against the hawks. But he got 2 coaches votes. And my guess is goodly gave them to him.

Similarly viney polled much better in last years bluey than many predicted.

Goody values players that apply pressure.

Agree mate. I think he's under instructions to work on certain things even if it means getting caught, so if he's doing that then goody would give him the tick. He also had a couple of important (contextually) kicks inside 50 that showed leadership too.

Absolutely absurd to suggest that those in power and in position will always be right as opposed to those on the periphery that are experienced and  interested. Often those on the periphery have clearer thoughts, no ulterior motives, aren’t influenced by being too close, do have conflicts of interest etc etc etc.

You and others on here can always believe you know more if it makes you happy, often those on the periphery just whinge and whine, throw little tantrums because things aren't going the way they hoped for. You have a good day.

Coaches' votes will be fascinating this week ...

Absolutely. Oliver played one of the best halves of football you’ll ever see then presumably got told to chill out after half time and was being locked down by Swallow (still got 35, 19 contested and 12 clearances). Lever and May also had excellent games as did Trac. But overall it was a pretty even performance across the board. Will be really interesting to see who they rated as best behind Clarry.

Presumably the Weid on the plane in case TMac doesn't recover

Viney and Harmes need to lift. Sparrow wasn't great. Jordon, Jonesy and Melks waiting in the wings should the opportunity arise.

As did Viney, ignoring good options in favour of trying to bulldoze through tacklers. I reckon they were equally ordinary today, both had games they would rather forget.

Out Viney

With our poor finishing I think we'd be unwise not to at least have a look at Melksham. He's our best finisher and field kick.

Give him eagles and crows, see what he can bring us.

Harmes out

Melksham in

Agreed on this. Bringing in Bowey improved the skill sets of the team kicking wise.  As would Melksham.

Worth a short term try, especially given his 2018 heroics at Optus. I would also look at Nathan Jones. He can also hit a target and kick goals.

Harmes is now bottom 6 in the 22 squad and they one measure of success.  Often the team with better bottom 6 win. Harmes out and anyone else can only imporve this.

I’d like to see a couple of changes too but unless TMac is injured, it would take a very brave selection committee to dump players after a 16 goal win.

I worry if the match Cttee sees the win as huge and makes decisions accordingly without addressing improvements still needed before finals.

We played a poor team that got a few hours notice to pack up, fly to Melb., sleep in a hotel bed and front up at lunchtime for gawd's sake at a ground they may have never played at. (for some of their team)

They should have lost by 10 goals at least given that pre-game senario.

It still doesnt address the fact that Harmes plays outside his limitations and something needs to happen.

I'd agree with this.

I thought Viney at least put some good short kicks into the forward line on Sunday.

I thought Harmes was really selfish at times. Not just trying to break tackles as Viney did, but he really burnt some team mates off trying to go for long runs with the footy.

When the game was in the bag in the third quarter, he just seemed to hang in front of the goals congesting the forward line trying to find a snap at goals.

He seems to play selfishly when we're cruising and also when we're under the pump.

It goes against the team ethos. I'd drop him.

All except the ones who beat Richmond at Marvel just 4 weeks ago.  Just before beating GWS at Ballarat the week later and then losing to the rampaging Dogs by only 11 points.

Form is fickle, especially for a young team.

The suns certainly embarrassed themselves yesterday.

We shouldn't get to far ahead of ourselves though, suspect the only team that might have struggled to beat them yesterday on recent exposed form would be the eagles.

BTW, not a great time to get the eagles, at home after an embarrassing road trip. Their leaders will step up and they'll have a home town crowd and  team of umpires behind them.

Lets not get carried away with the win against GGS they were shocking, our last quarter was woeful only one goal scored great sides bury teams like them I still remember 186 the forward line still has a lot of work to do to be a potent force but at least they are working on it.

A bit of speculation Viney’s going to be suspended by the MRP, or fined at the very least.

Just saw that on ch. 7 news. He might be in trouble with the MRP. ?

But cares little about disposal, or lack there of, due to every second one being a holding the ball..

Maybe.

But lets face it goody has a fair bit credibility when it comes opt such assessments, given he is in fifth year as a senior AFL coach. And the team he coaches is currently sitting third on the ladder after 20 rounds and having its best season in more than 55 years.

So if he values the pressure Viney and Harmes applies more than their disposal, i guess i'll defer to his expertise.

On yesterday's form, it won't for him to miss a couple of weeks.

Viney and harmed out.

Melsham , VDB, Baker or Chandler/Bedford in

I'd move Brayshaw on ball, and bring in some pace on the wing.

Wouldn't mind another pressure crafty half forward link player as well.

If tmac is out we have daw/weeds/brown

Why do some people call for melkshams inclusion. i thaught the most outstanding thing fron sunday was the forward line pressure. Melksham provides none of it.

And Harmes and Viney were #1 and #2 for pressure acts.

Just for a little perspective, “poor team” that in the last 4 weeks pushed Footscray and Brisbane, and beat recent grand finalists Richmond and GW$?
Sure that had issues this week, but MFC also had unexpected 7-8 hours travel the day before.

But he provides class and finish. Something the other forwards do not, for the most part.

Because he lowers the eyes and hits targets.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
