Exactly what was expected. Well-balanced team. And I assume that Ruby and TMac are putting the new bub on hold for a day or so as M. Brown is not on the bench.

Melks performances have been serviceable at best. He can have no complaints.

Brown is listed as an emergency, so could still be a late replacement for TMac.

Melksham will be the medical sub.

Good change, and fingers crossed Tmac plays. It will be far harder to win without him.

Love to see him have to find form in vfl, last time he got dropped went unused as sub and came straight back in, didn’t learn a thing

Excited for Tommy but hoping the Mac-bundle isn't - just yet.

Kudos on aiming for the bye either way.

My thoughts exactly. Last year, everyone was potting Tomlinson, he was out of form and struggling to get a consistent game. At the start of the year, everyone was talking about how important he was to our defence.

methinks BBB will be back in a big way next year.

I remember a few posters saying in March this year that if player A,B or C is getting regular games we won’t make finals. Tomlinson got a few mentions along with Nibbler and Spags.

I recall a lot of posters saying Carlton and St Kilda had gone past us.

I was one that had felt St Kilda were further ahead of us until we beat them very comfortably.

Certainly Nibbler and Spargo were two players often mentioned as guys that would never be a regular part of a successful Melbourne team. TMac as well was labelled as “cooked”, Harmes was useless and a wasted 4 year deal.

Really goes to show you how much fans use emotion to base their arguments, eg with Spargo his first game last season against West Coast was awful and had posters (I may have been one of them) saying he should never pull on a Melbourne guernsey again.

EDIT it’s why I’m backing Melksham to come back at some stage and prove his worth, and why I think BBB will give the coaches a reason to pick him again.

That said Langdon for Melksham was correct in/out.

My record is not without blemish when it comes to player and coaching evaluations

I have no idea what you mean. You agree with my comment that I hope BBB is the disappointment of the year? Or you’re unhappy that I made the comment?

Seeking clarity please.

I didn’t agree with your comment.

Good to see Melksham held accountable for some average games. It’ll be hard for him to get back into the team now.
chandler should be ahead of him in the pecking order

I hope that’s not the team’s attitude on Monday.

And we have to somehow fit Viney in at some stage.

So you hope that BBB DOES turn out to be the year’s biggest disappointment.

OK, I suppose losing the Grand Final would be a bigger disappointment.

Happy with the change nothing against Milkshake mind you but Tom Sparrow deserves a run at it, he is a great kid and belongs at this level. Also confident the BBB will force his way into the side later in the season when his body is right.

go Dees.!!!!!

Short of injuries creating openings, on current form it's hard to see Melksham getting too many more games this year.

Melksham can still be a match winner because he can do things that few players can.

However, those match-winning qualities are seldom seen anymore and his day-to-day efforts have been lacking for two years now.

Hnmm the more I think about it the more I think Viney might need a game at Casey!

Melksham at his best is walk up start. Unfortunately, I just don't think he can get back to that any more. He's still valuable to play multiple roles throughout the game to keep the team balanced. His kicking is still an absolute weapon and I think the discipline and effort issues are behind him. He just doesn't seem able to cover the ground any more - when he chases, he looks to be running up and down on the spot.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
