To flip one of their old rallying cries on its head... 'I can smell them going'.

If this was politics rather than football, you'd automatically assume Barker was leaving to mount a challenge for the leadership (head coach role). I can't recall anything similar happening in AFL, so I assume that's not what's happening here. Or is it...

Talk about a free ride for 10 years under 4 coaches, what exactly have they achieved in that time for him to have remained as a senior assistant for so long?

Deebacle. What an absolute rabble.

Fascinating isn't it.

You'd assume a coach would want to appoint his own backroom staff, but somehow he's been attached to several coaches who ultimately got the sack.

Poor Barker.

Noah is assembling the scape goats, and the sacrificial lambs - two of every animal!

Into the boat!

It reminds of where we've been and only recently too.

But that said, Teague doesn't come across as an inspirational coach when I hear him speak. He doesn't have the answers.. The players aren't invested, Cripps has checked out and Docherty is having a mare of a year - doesn't bode well when they're your Captains.

It sounds like they're going to pin everything on the assistants and list manage, have a little clean out and hope that fixes everything.

fingers crossed it doesn't help at all and they're a mess for the next 80 years.

I don't know, smells like they want to get a jump on Collingwood for the best available experienced senior coach out there. Maybe they are eying off Ross Lyon.

What's better than a high scoring Blues side that can't win a game?

A low scoring one that still can't win a game! ?

Their list is pretty good, they've got the backbone of a good side.

Made some bad decisions I think in overpaying for 2 half back flankers and that could come back to haunt them when having to stump up the cash for Cripps and McKay. Plus they missed some really good players in the draft.

They seem to be succumbing to knee jerk pressure from the media and by extension the fans.

Collingwood were the disaster club last week, Carlton this week...who's next.

If they take the emotion out of it and look logically they are pretty well set.

Funny that they went with an untried coach when they said they wouldn't go down that path. Again they went the popular path (Teague winning a few games) instead of sticking with their better judgment.

Do they change the coach or give him better support.

I honestly hope they make the wrong call whatever it is.

The media rubbish about the competition needing a strong Carlton doesn't wash with me.

If they do change coach, Hands off the Dees Assistants

It won't take much to turn that list around.

They will be making a big play for Clarkson IMO.

I watched the Carlton v West Coast game and was disgusted by Carltons lack of defensive running.

Teagues press conference was amazing. Looked like a man completely out of ideas.

Me too. you've got Choco, Chaplin and Yze who're all super highly rated around the industry.

Probably Yze is one we'd anticipate may only be around short term due to his likelyhood of getting a senior coaching role at some stage, but losing any of them would hurt though.

Following Teague and Bolton, I can't imagine them going with a rookie coach.
Their problems are cultural and they'll need someone strong enough (and willing to) stand up to the warring voices and factions within the club.

I'd say Yze is safe, from them anyway.

True but if Clarkson goes to Carlton or the Pies then the Hawks will be gunning for Yze to return to the fold.

lose, yze, blues ....... i can feel a limerick coming on.......there was a coach called yze.........

They’ve got a good list but their recent recruiting strategy is exacerbating their immediate defensive problems - they’ve gone and spent big on offensive rebounders who will take time to settle into their side. Ross the boss feels like the obvious candidate for them.

Nope

Sam Mitchell is next.

Hawthorn’s problem is that Mitchell is out of contract and wants to coach next year, but Clarkson is contracted until end of next year.

They’d never say it, but Hawthorn would absolutely love Clarkson to leave to avoid having to choose between sacking a 4x premiership coach and potentially losing their next one.

Very similar smell to us in 2015/16.

List has a very good feel to it in patches with a a fair few holes still to be filled.

Question marks over fitness and ability / willingness to butter up both ways for four quarters.  Sound familiar?

Walsh, Cripps, McKay,  Martin, Fischer, De Koning, Pittonet, Saad

Alot of work to do with developing the young fellas and list management as well as aspects of the game, particularly on defence.

Teague appears to be a tad overwhelmed of late.  Get some serious senior support in to bolster a la Roos or Lyon and some others at fitness / skill level and who knows.

Thought they were surprisingly impressive for 3 quarters against us at the G.  Turn the ball over alot though even when  not under a stack of pressure.

Might be a few rumblings at the top and some sorting needed there as well with Juddy apparently a no show much of the time?

Need to get alot right in the next two years to become a serious footy team IMHO but it's possible.

I predict that their review will indicate that Teague is the man for the job but needs better support. I don't think it's any accident that Barker suddenly decided to walk the plank.

If they do jettison Teague they will bring in a "name" coach as they don't want to be permanently experimenting with untried coaches. They're at a crossroad -- their list is pretty good -- and won't want to throw that away with more years of underperforming.

Yze is burnishing his credentials each week and it's a race against time. Flag for Demons, or Yze senior coach at another club. Which will come first? Mind you, we shouldn't have any trouble attracting a decent replacement now.

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
