What you might be missing is that the WA Premier makes decisions based on what he believes the community wants most. If the people of Perth would prefer a Grand Final with crowds instead of keeping out interstate travellers who might bring Covid into WA, I could see McGowan allowing crowds.

(By the way, if what I've just suggested is the case, perhaps before we criticise the WA Premier for being so populist, we should consider whether a Premier doing what the people want is just an example of democracy working. In which case, Winston Churchill was right when he said, “democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried.")

Not much risk in that scenario i would have thought.

That criteria is met by around 70% of the adult returnees to Australia but we still insist upon 14 days hotel quarantine.

The risk equation is set to as close to zero as they can make it especially in WA. 

FWIW I'd put all finals teams in Perth and decide game venues on a weekly basis with reference to border closures.

Not a snowflakes chance in hell is McGowan going to let the average punter into WA for the GF if we have community case of transmission after August 28. Even if they’re fully vaccinated.

And this is precisely why the grand final should be in Adelaide rather than Perth - less onerous border rules but still able to have roughly the same crowd at an equally excellent venue.

but to try to answer your question if we get out of lockdown next week for example, we would still not be able to have crowds you’d imagine. But we could be able to travel interstate

But If say it is two Victorian teams.

There is every chance we will be out of lockdown in a week. The gf will still be five weeks after that.

So, if we were to remain covid free the border to WA might well reopen. 

So different scenario to international arrivals.

Yeah but what about those of us that are unable to get both jabs in that time due to not meeting medical requirements?

Younger people have stayed at home and done the right thing to protect older demographics, and it sends a a terrible message if they can’t go to things because they aren’t yet fully vaccinated through no fault of their own.

You're probably right rj,

I'm clutching at straws. I feel sick at the thought of the dees plying in a grand final and not being there. 

One of those straws is that there is still time for crowds at the G to be possible. The GF is 6 and half weeks away. If we get to low - zero cases by Thursday week - which is a good chance i think - then there is 5 weeks to navigate.  

If there continues to be low - zero cases then say two weeks with no crowds. Then three weeks of building up to say 50% capacity.  

And reward the club members and give tickets only to them.

Mcgowan gets no money for corporate or locals attending.

It’s economics and common sense

The money from the grand final goes to the AFL, who need to recoup lost revenue.

Any border clampdown is to try and prevent COVID getting into the state and the flow on negative impact to the WA economy 

He doesn’t expect many attendees, that’s not hard to fathom, 7 to 8 day turn around to knowing your team has made the GF and booking flights/obtaining tickets and accommodation. Flights and accomodation will be at a premium as they always are for Grand Finals. That goes without travel restrictions being considered 

The players have continually said they prefer playing in front of crowds.

Cant actually believe supporters are actually saying I’d rather wait for the Dees to win a flag next year at the G, so I can be there. Talk about self centred.

Similar things were said last year, when we were travelling well.FCS there are no guarantees with this pandemic.

If we can win one this year I’m taking it, whether it be at the G, Gabba, AO or Optus. But I want to see the Dees win it in front of the biggest crowd possible and I’m sure the players would want to win it in front of a full house given the option
