What happens to the grand final if COVID hits Perth during grand final week and McGowan orders the game to be played with no fans. It's happened twice this year.

What's the continency plan then?

I honestly cannot believe the league is considering WA. McGowan is a loose cannon. It should be SA or Queensland imo.

That would pee everybody off.

yes serious. But they have just announced that the bye round has been scrapped, so not going to happen. But given that they want to play finals in front of crowds (well 17 clubs anyway!), it is now extremely unlikely there will be finals in Victoria in 2 weeks. And I do think the 8 is set, it would be a brave punter to bet that Brisbane and Essendon will lose this week

I couldn't care less if you think the 8 is set, reality is it isn't, and coupled with there being two match ups that haven't yet happened, and the obvious ridiculousness of coming this far and then stopping, your idea is insane.

I keep saying being good at football does not necessarily make you a rocket  scientist.

The AFL should save the bye for the week between the preliminary finals and the grand final. That way they’ll know the teams in the GF and have two weeks to put in place contingency measures to allow supporters to attend, including pre-game PCR and antigen testing.

For those wondering, like me, about the Grand Final Guarantee and what the club will do in the event that we cannot use it due to lockdowns, I just received the following back from the club:

Please see below the information I have been provided regarding the grand final guarantees.

You will only be entitled to a refund if restrictions in your LGA restrict you from doing so.

Due to the uncertainty around the location of this seasons’ Grand Final, we’d like to reiterate some restrictions of the Grand Final Guarantee product.

  • If Melbourne are not a competing team in the Grand Final, the grand final guarantee product is non-refundable.
  • If the Grand Final is played outside of Victoria under no COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, providing Melbourne are a competing team you are not eligible for a refund.
  • If COVID-19 restrictions impede your ability to attend the Grand Final and Melbourne is a participating team, you are entitled to a refund of the Grand Final Guarantee product.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.”

HT do you think anyone would be game to ask for a refund of their GFG if we actually snagged the cup?

I didnt take the GFG option, but would be so euphoric and drunk after a flag win that i would max my credit card on commemorative club merch.

That actually inspires me to ask the question in a new thread....

I totally agree with this. But I think it's important to note, since it's been widely reported that the people who held the engagement party are Jewish, that they are a minority. Unfortunately the orthodox and ultra orthodox community are mostly insular and selfish and they don't really care about what happens outside of their walls. But they are a minority within the larger Jewish community, and I just want to point that out because I've seen a lot of hate online for the community at large, and that is just simply unfair.
Many leaders of the community have stood up and spoken out against these people, which is something we haven't seen from any other cultural or religious group that have also breached restrictions in the past.

People are trash. People who use their religion or cultural heritage to justify their trash behaviour are even worse.

I've just about had enough of everyone!

I know there has been much angst in Israel as well in heavily Jewish New York against the Ultra Orthodox Haredim for thumbing their noses at sensible COVID and other health preventative restrictions. Either they don’t believe in COVID or god will protect them for being pure. Similar issues also happened with the serious outbreak of measles in 2019. I saw an image of a Haredi poster in Tel Aviv saying that COVID was caused by Haredi Jewish women who wear wigs made from the hair of non Jewish women. How FUp is that? Some of these Ultra Orthodox have dangerous cult like beliefs.

If we have to have a guarantee of the grand final in the next few days it should be Adelaide even if it means putting up with the nutty professor.  McGowan is off running his succesionist W.A. campaign again so why on earth keep feeding him. He goes and agrees on something at Morrisons stupid national cabinet meetings and goes off and deliberately contradicts what he promised. He is a complete pratt and I would not be having the finals played in perth.

I can’t for the life of me understand why SA is barely been discussed, it almost appears a done deal for WA.

Probably financial incentive being offered to the AFL to host it there!?

Because you can't touch the ball. Makes it hard.

I emailed the club today and suggested they provide a manged way for stranded members to transfer their GFG to other Dee's supporters who can make it.

The wife and I are in Northern NSW so we are at very long odds to get a chance to go. #thanksgladys

A break between Prelim and the Granny is a great idea to allow people to arrange travel if they can.

I know its tough with the prospect of fans not being able to attend finals but some posters are getting ahead of themselves thinking we are are lock in for the GF. We yet have to earn that spot.

Surely Prestia doesn’t play this weekend. Or is he injured anyway? I don’t care enough about Richmond to know.

Duck, weave, just don't touch the ball!

Marshmallow is as crazy as Emperor McGowan. Look at the double quarantine rules for the Olympians as an example. It surely can't be in Adelaide.

Why not just buy the ticket and sell it to a mate yourself? If you have their details you could fill in the covid fields for them. Not sure their needs to be a formal process here.

Which is somewhat ironic given the AFL itself is following what the clubs' all claim, which is worrying about one week at a time.

The AFL is able to manage large scale logistical operations with state governments and airline carriers etc much easier than an individual, so it’s entirely rationale to start thinking options.

Fair enough, it's new territory for me. I wasn't sure of the process.

If there's a simple way to pass on the slot to someone, that sounds good.

Is having to quarantine for 1-2 weeks considered a restriction impeding my ability to attend a GF?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
