drdrake 3,203 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 This is why membership tallies mean absolutely nothing. Hawks 80 odd thousands members but only 14,000 turn up to the game. When we had these games we would get 15-20,000 with only 24-25,000 members. Still remember one game, I think it was against Fremantle at Princess park, we would have had 5-6,000 people there. 1 Quote

I also believe that his ego will not allow him to give up on Collingwood until he goes out on his defined terms. I get that he has a right of response to criticism, but it's never just a collected and calm response with him. He has to nuke his opposition. His mate, Sam Newman, is of a similar caliber in that regard. Even now he still is incapable of a) recognizing any area where he or Collingwood have been flat out or partially wrong, or if that position is clearly untenable he will then b) unconvincingly accept blame, yet try to spin the situation to one where he and his interests come out on top. That he came out and said he shouldn't have said what he said at the 'Do Better' press conference verged on a minor miracle, and showed how dire a straights he was in. And if he can't do either of those, his next objective is to discredit or belittle the party opposite. For recent examples, look at Sam McLure, Chad Cornes and Tony Jones. He took an overboard whack at PJ over his comments about the Collingwood coaching handover (though to be fair, I'm not sure PJ needed to make those comments). Part of the 'Do Better' report was also very specific in pointing out that the club had a reputation of backgrounding to the media about those who complained (ala Heritier Lumumba). I wonder who in the club had the most contacts in and a direct pipeline to the media at the time? Furthermore, the bloke still talks like he is the president of the club when he appears on media street, and I believe that is deliberate. Korda, for the better if one is to remember what that club had become, has become the invisible man. Eddie knows this, and is trying to fill the vaccuum that Korda has created. Basically, he is acting like president in exile. Wait a year or two. It will be at that time that the white hot indignation towards Eddie's 'Proud and Historic Day' brain fart will be superseded by other stories, and some in the media eco system will conveniently start putting out unsolicited fluff pieces and op eds about how Collingwood was so much more focused on success during Eddie's time, and that a cabal of politically correct, woke snowflakes forced him out. The propaganda groundwork will have well and truly been laid for him to then come out and say he is back to galvanize Collingwood. ? P.S. To make this clear at the start, this is my opinion, and not a statement of declarative fact.☺️ Edited May 14, 2021 by Colin B. Flaubert Needed to complete the sentence in the third paragraph about the minor miracle at the 'Do Better' presser. Quote

My guess is 40k full adult members and tbh after the last 30 plus years of success I can understand why they're not turning up to watch an ageing team go through its paces Quote

I would disagree on one point, yes Clarkson was lucky, all coaches are either lucky or unlucky depending on their squad during their tenure. But if you know his history he was driven to succeed in that role. I think he would have taken any team to a GF given the time and development to do so. He managed to build sustained success using all the tools a club can in the comp. whether people think its fair or not. 1 Quote

A supercoach is a Hardwick who built his team through the draft without any advantage that other teams building don't have, if he is a super coach then he will drive the Hawks to be a superpower again, i bet he won't 1 Quote

When the champions retired/moved on he didn’t want to cliff to come so he kept topping up and it’s ended up being a part of their own demise. Keep giving them Sunday 1pm games, let’s see how many turn up. My guess is their crowd figures will be about on par to our Bailey/Neeld years. 1 Quote

In some ways, Korda has been his own man, albeit one who’s been much more low key. He came out straight away and extended an unreserved apology to all Black former players if they felt discriminated against during their time at Collingwood (Lumumba included and especially). He also apologized for the trade week fiasco. I’m not sure that Eddie would have been fully behind either of those statements. The definitive answer as to who’s really in charge will come when Eddie, in his self appointed role as spokesman for all things Collingwood, continues to pick more fights up to the point where Korda has to either tell him to pull his head in or retreat like a true weasel.
