I agree @Demon_spurs...might be time to look at the oppo fan preview. Had a quick look at Talking Carlton earlier in the week and the best they came up with at the time when talking about us was “ They have to lose at some stage.”

Don't worry, so did I. Was looking forward to it. Next week apparently.

I love those threads, hope one is put up soon and all thanks to those that originate them.

Yes some very arrogant blues supporters at work today and they reckon Dees are due for a flat week and it’s a likely Blues upset.

I did agree it’s a DANGER GAME and Dees losing Tomlinson, Viney and Jackson does weaken the team.

We were flat against North 2 weeks ago.

We will be up, since this is a danger game and we just got through against the Swans, after playing their style.

Assume we will come out and play our brand of win the contest, force it to the fwd arc, get repeat entries and not let it out until we score.

We will outmark the Blues and so minimise their ability to get going.

Jackson out sucks. Big time. He's not just a "second ruck". His midfield/clearance work when he's up the ground, and particularly in at centre bounces, is strong. Whether Weideman or TMac, they don't have his skill in the clearance work.

Big out.

In addition to these good points, the tactical flexibility he gives us un terms of they use max has been super important this season.

So much more than a player who gives max a chop out.

Interestingly maxy said in his captain call bit on he usually makes the call when they swap

23 hours ago, rpfc said:

Weid can ruck so don’t worry about that, no need to move TMac.

He is a decent second ruck.

Jackson is a ridiculous second ruck that threatens the fabric of reality, but Weed is decent enough to give Gawn a chop out.

With sharp midfield mongrels, we really do not need a great ruckman each week - just one or two who can chop in across a game, playing swapsies as it suits them rucking on the flanks and midlines. What these mongrels need to develop is teeth. Then they will graduate to the official title of Demon sharks - red 'n blue pointers who savage trespassers to their waters.

So apparently Jones was set to be named prior to injuring himself today, seems there was one other change beyond Jackson. I’d speculate Melksham hopefully this doesn’t mean he is back in.

Yes, I read that:

'Jones was dropped for the Demons' win over Sydney in round eight but was expected to be in line for a spot against Carlton.'

This makes no sense to me. We have at least 2 players, Sparrow and Chandler, that deserve to be in the side ahead of Jones and
represent the future of the club, but Jones was expected to be in line for a spot!

It’s a bit of a bizarre read and begs the question of what are we doing with Jones? I would think the best use of his experience is to have him within our best 26 but likely playing some games at Casey as a leader there to push the right attitudes. He’ll have more games this year but Sparrow was outstanding against North’s VFL team and surely deserves a spot.

Weid for Jacko is all I’m anticipating though.

Ah, maybe you don’t get my humour...

Jackson is a jet at 19, the kind of second ruck that makes me wonder if you and I are in a simulation.

And my footy IQ is not in question, have a read, you might learn a few things.

?

Well if you start trying to use cute Lingo don't  be surprised if some Don't get your humour.???

Agree LJ is a jet but won't learn from you if you keep up With your Fritsch comments.

Bayley is also a  Very talented player who is irreparable on our forward  line as he rarely plays a bad game and contributes goals nearly every game.

Like all players he can improve in say tackling but you don't drop a player for a smaller weakness in his game if he is one if your best contributors.

Irreplaceable not irreparable

Ah ok then - as another poster would say - thanks for paying such close attention to my posts on here.

Its flattering.

As for Fritsch - he is a soft front runner, much like the bloke whose trade facilitated us picking Bayley (Watts). But you need balance and I am more than happy for Bayley to be playing but you would be kidding yourself if you think he can put in many more performances like that against good teams.

Not sure you understand the hype. It is what he might be in two years that everyone is pumped about

I get that, and I'm as excited as anyone about the player he's going to become. I just think some people get carried away by the player he is in 2021 - I don't think that the side is weaker for his absence at this stage. He's better than Weideman at ground level, but Weideman is stronger overhead and a much bigger threat when he goes forward. Overall, the net difference to the side is minimal IMO.

This week might be an exception though - ideally we'd play Gawn behind the ball for longer periods to negate McKay, which might not be possible with Weideman as backup ruck.

Does in line mean the front of the line? Second? Tenth?

I read that as he was available and a possible inclusion, not that he was to be selected. So Jones was in line but behind Sparrow & Chandler perhaps.

"in line for selection" can be found in the AFL thesauras with same meaning as "in the mix". It's how a club says something about selection without actually saying anything.

Sparrow but just as importantly, Chandler, are overdue to make the cut. Carlton will be a less threatening, moderately talented team that is below us in the scheme of things - the perfect staging ground to again dip the toes into the staging ground pool for players' development.
