...

10 disposals, 5 contested, at 90% efficiency in the last quarter was massive.

Jordon and Gus had a few bad disposals

i wasn’t as impressed with Jordon as others. Turned the ball over too often and a couple resulted in goals. 47% disposal efficiency. Needs to tidy up. Brayshaw 57% DE.

A number of our players were well off the pace today. Pickett, Lever, Gawn, Brayshaw, ANB, Jackson, Petty, Fritsch, Melksham, and Rivers all played below expectations. Yet we still won! Can’t wait for everyone to have a big day out together — preferably in the last game of the year.

I think you are perhaps a bit harsh on some. I thought it was a measure of how hard and strong Sydney was paying and trying to win,

most you have mentioned had a couple of times when their input was needed and it measured up. I can’t recall anyone being outpaced all night, a couple might have done better but   We had a win. 8 in a row  I followed Melbourne in the mornings papers back then, and delivering the herald on my bike to 150 houses as well in the afternoon.

that’s a bloodying long time ago !

Not sure how you could put Petracca in the best. He tried to do way too much and either got caught holding the ball too often or butchered it by foot. Not a great game by him.

No chance, unfortunately. He could play like he did on Saturday every week and wouldn't get close. Umpires are unable to award more than a paltry number of votes to players who don't start in the centre circle for most of the game.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
