Interesting footage of his run up. Still think itโ€™s too long

North are struggling so badly theyโ€™ve only managed to kick over 50 points twice this season: amazing an AFL side could be so poor. 10 goal marginย is a par score for us todayย

Super excited to watch the Dees today!

As a Taswegian, it's myย first live game since R23 2019. The BB fairytale - playing first game in home state -ย just makes it all that much sweeter!

I almost feel we canโ€™t lose today. We have a full strength side thatโ€™s currently keeping a club champion out and the most promising young key forward on our list. North on the other hand has one of their weakest sides in about 20 years, with even LDU (one of their best young players) also out.

If we lose today the media will go with that old rhetoric โ€œJust when you thought you could trust them, they let you downโ€. But really this would be one of our worse losses in 20 years if we lost today, so I just canโ€™t see it happening.

Looking at the North team I reckon about half is AFL standard with only 2 quality players players.ย

if we donโ€™t turn up and North get their tails up I reckon we win by 30. If it goes as I think it willย we will win by 90.ย

zero concern with this game. Next week against the Swans however we will need to turn up

Well its been a while since a Dees player has kicked a huge haul.

I think it might happen today.

Will be interesting on many levels.

A chance to be on top of the ladder.

See Bbb in action.

How we go in games we would usually lose.

Dees by 56 .

Would like to see Kozzie and Bbb isolated up fwd.

The MFCSS in me says the cruellest of jokes would be to lose this week with low effort showboating and validate that this team will never be trusted ever. This week will show how well we reset and how ruthless we truly have become. Sometimes its harder to play at high intensity and stick to a plan when the resistance is lower and you drawn down in quality. I have seen us do it to teams many times over the years now the shoe is on the other foot. Hawks game a good example for 3 quarters of what that can look like. Suspect our quality and work rate will get us there in the end but expect some moments of MFCSS to occur at points.ย

Best of luck to Benny Brown on his first of many games for the MFC. I suspect it will take a good month for him and team to connect well but just expect him to work hard and compete until it all clicks. The new rules and our improved ability to hit targets are made for a hard leading 200+cm player.ย

Will catch half of this as I have another commitment from 1 PM. Hopefully we will have the game in hand by half time.

I hope we get a decent game out of this for us as much as North. People might look at the draw and lick their lips, but I want a decent mix of games where the difficulty of the opposition varies. If we win this on autopilot, it could lull us to sleep for later in the year when it genuinely matters.

Also, I have too strong a memory of 2013, and this reeks of 148 for me (with us in the role of Essendon). It was the first time Iโ€™ve ever chosen to go to a non Melbourne game instead of ours (Richmond vs Saints) because 1) I wanted to go to a game which was legitimately entertaining and 2) I could sense something genuinely ugly was brewing.ย
ย

A non [censored]ย Essendon mate predicted matter of factlyย that it would turn ugly quickly, and he wasnโ€™t wrong. I hope for their sake (and without any condescension) thatย they can turn in a creditable performance. I donโ€™t wish that type of experience on anyone.

Itโ€™s hard not to have this concern.ย

Rationally I know the evidence of us in 2021 says we shouldnโ€™t be worried but weโ€™re not far enough removed from the Cairns disasters of last year for me to be relaxed.ย

North beat us by over 20 goals around the same time. Time for some payback.

The team is flying in this morning flying out after the game sharing a chartered plane with the Kangas, not awkward at all

that worked well last time we did something similar

The main thing keeping my MFCSS settled a bit is how terrible North are. They havenโ€™t had a sustained 4 quarter effort yet and their morale would be in the toilet. Even if weโ€™re off today, I still canโ€™t see them beating us.

I hope.

Anyway, sitting out in the sun enjoying my morning coffee. Itโ€™s already got a hint of warmth, and thereโ€™s not a cloud in the sky nor the slightest breath of wind. Weather is going to be perfect. Canโ€™t wait to head over the river in a couple of hours!

@60+ points we have a better % than Bulldogs

Personally I think it is useful to temper expectations.ย
Weโ€™ve won our games by an average of circa 5 goals.

Irrespective of todayโ€™s opposition, if we win by a similar margin - or even 2 goals, Iโ€™d be satisfied.

If someone has said to me โ€˜before the first round - you can win your first 7 matches by an average of 5 goalsโ€™ย ย Iโ€™d be taking it.ย

100% EO.

Its a fool errand to eqate success in this game as thrashing them. Just as it was for the hawks game.

The only metric I care about is tbe four points.

Serios teams bank this win. Ugly or scrappy makes no difference.

ย I'm super pleased they have only made the one change. That is the mindset I want to see.

True to a degree. Beating up a cellar dweller will tell us nothing about how we will go in September.

That said, we still need to execute on skills, game plan etc. If our approach and mindset are right we should beat North with plenty to spare. If we let them drag us down to their level Iโ€™ll be disappointed. No disrespect to North they may well make it difficult, and I hope they do, but anything less than a 50 point win means we have not played to our potential. Ruthlessness and maturity means we put this team to the sword. Thats what the great Hawthorn andย Geelong teams did. We should be looking to do the same

ย

When I awoke this morning I did not have any MFCSS syndromes. This is very strange and alien.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If youโ€™re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footyโ€”you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Caseyโ€™s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down thereโ€”and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
