640MD 3,570 Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Tongue firmly in your cheek, I hope. They do seem a very tight bunch, On a mission to greatness perhaps. back to Tracca. Has he signed and is it official or do we have to wait for Ch 7 news this evening. Nothing much on a Wednesday night. We need to keep Ch 7 relevant, but would welcome needing to watch it for it to be “Official” 14 minutes ago, Pipefitter said: What a horrible season we are having.... It’s great to see he club looking like having some one club career players. We haven’t seen this since the Daniher days and you can see how close those players are still and passionate about the club. Quote

Goodwins had his own challanges and rebuilt the list back up again. Without Goodwin, Oliver, Salem and Petracca are looking at new clubs. Roos got what he came for and that was the $$. This whole notion of the club wouldn't be here without him is actually laughable. That's true about Goodwin, but the foundation was laid by Roos and Jackson for whom we should be forever grateful. Roos got the dollars sure (and he enahncedh is coaching reputation), but the club got what it paid for as well. Self respect, a level of credibility and the bleeding stopped. Without that Goodwin had nothing to build on. A house built on sand will not last. In terms of the present, not being inside the tent we will never know just how much an impact on performance we have seen as a result of the master appointments of Williams and Yze. I suspect nothing changes without their skills, strategic and teambuilding influence on Goodwin. The quick 100% turnaround to the selfless, lowering the eyes style of play tendered as eveidence. The true talent of the list has now been exposed by many. Success has many parenets, failure is an orphan as they say and kudos to Goodwin for keeping it together in 2019/2020. 6 Quote

They will not have the room to chase a highly paid recruit. They're not exactly a destination club at the moment either. (How the wheel turns.) This is a serious question, has the filth ever been a destination club for the comp’s superstars? I can’t think of one they’ve ever landed. (And I’m talking about superstars, not just good players.). Yet nothing on Goodwin whos created the environment for these players to want to stay and sign long term. This got nothing to do with Paul Roos or Peter Jackson. People need to move on from Paul Roos and Give Goodwin the credit he deserves. His time with us was a bit overrated imo. Correct. Goodwin doesn't get the credit he deserves. But Roos and Jackson were important in turning the club into a professional operation, on and off the field. And we had some overdue luck...St Kilda bizarrely overlooking Petracca for a start. Roos was on the radio when the news came through, and he couldn't believe it - sounded like a man who had just won the lottery. Edited May 4, 2021 by Redlagged Quote

Timothy Reddan-A'Blew 5,690 Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Interesting that Christian apparently did "...not want to eek [sic!] out every last dollar from Melbourne to the detriment of his teammates...", the implication being he could have got more, to - as the commentary often goes - 'set himself up for life'. He's sure in the echelon of players entitled to bring that condition to negotiations. Maybe $6m+ does that anyway, but is he adding other strings to his bow while playing - education, qualification, business, investment, etc - does anyone know, that help him take that altruistic view? Trac will make plenty of money outside football. Just look at Dustin Martin and his deal with Bonds for one example. If you are a marketable superstar it makes no sense at all to hold your club hostage and risk losing players if you want to ever win a flag. Trac is no dummy. 7 Quote

Don't get me wrong, P2J, I thought it was great, and just how I imagined Christian would be. It just made me curious about the broader person Christian was. I'd also hope, noting your Dusty comparison, that he's not relying on marketability, particularly if it's looks/physique based - that has a shelf life not much longer than football... Quote
