This is a top post except for Tmac comments.

9 marks on an atrocious day was suberb.

Not a knock on him but if he held the ones he had a decent grab at he could've taken 20.

Ed actually, so close enough.

Conditions have nothing to do with an ability to pressure and lay tackles. He laid two for the whole game. His lack of defensive pressure simply cannot justify a game in our system. Two tackles is more than he usually lays mind you.

Ed Salem Gawn Farr has a ring to it.

Did you notice how nearly every single player on the ground slumped to their haunches when the final siren went?

They worked and ran hard all day, which is a big tick for our fitness with these long quarters

Jake Lever’s performance reminded me of the late, great Sean Wight, with his anticipation and athletic attack.

Hard as a cats head the old Seanis.  Could play forward as a pinch hitter on odd occasions also.  Did he hit a pack hard and was often the 3rd man up around the ground gaining extra yardage at the ball ins

Demons are 10-1 to win the flag. 5th favourite

uh oh - the Lid is off!

What was wrong with Jordon

4 disposals 5 tackles was he shadowing someone?

Poor game compared to previous 3

Great team win! What a start! If you’d have told me in January that we’d be 4-0 with no Brown, Weideman, Hibberd and Viney for a game I would’ve thought you were mad!

Incredible stuff!

Also I was hearing a bit of ‘Melbourne haven’t beaten anyone yet’ on the radio this morning and I’m ok with that, keep the lid on. But there’s an interesting stat everyone seems to be missing, everyone Melbourne has beaten has beaten everyone the bulldogs have beaten.

Geelong beat Brisbane, Saints beat WC, GWS beat Collingwood, admittedly Freo haven’t played North yet, but I think we can all agree they WILL beat them.
So the next time a radio host tells you how incredible the dogs are but Melbourne ‘haven’t beaten anyone yet’ maybe cheekily point this out? While keeping the lid on of course...

GO DEES!!!

Keep the lid on all season. Nothing is guaranteed in this caper. It’s a journey that will fluctuate from week to week.  Injuries, travel and form will influence our results. Enjoy the wins but don’t gloat. Wait for the media and non Melbourne supporters dismantle us after a few losses. Including our own whinging supporters who you can hear say “I told you so. “

Must say, the wins have done wonders for my mental health, mood and enjoyment of weekends. like coming out of a dark tunnel.

At long last hope is transforming into belief.

50% TOG. He'll be rested this week you'd think.

In an interview before round 1, Max said that our players were “hurting” because they had let themselves and the supporters down by not making finals in 2020 .......... they were intent on redeeming themselves in 2021.  His statement was (quite reasonably) greeted around here with many comments along the lines of “we’ve heard it all before”, “talk is cheap” and “we want actions, not words”.

Well, I think in the first four rounds, we are starting to see strong evidence that Max is a man of his word, and our team is prepared to back him up.

So far, so good.

You mean poor stats I think.  Played his rôle.
(3 more tackles than the coach’s mate)

Could get his hands on the pill due to the greediness of all other Dees  players hogging it.?

Dont mind at all if we only beat teams below us.

Will keep happening until we smash the dogs and then continue.

Yep....exhaustion. They certainly left nothing out there. It’s very hard to contain the excitement as supporters watching them work as one in the first month of the season.

As some one that works in the Geelong area... Thank you Dees!!! Thank you!

How was your day at work today G??

As the eternal pessimist I'm in unfamiliar territory right now.
Was very impressed with what I witnessed against Geelong.
Just gotta remember the season is a marathon and not a sprint and I'm also not very confident the season will play out without the covid thing rearing it's head again when the flu season sets in.
Anything could happen but we are building very nicely thanks very much.
Can see again the players have the eye of the tiger.
They know the pieces are in place, a settled backline, a contested beast of a midfield, blistering pace down the wings and a forward line while still spluttering still has a couple handy additions to come in.
If they can keep up what they produced yesterday we'll be right in the mix to go deep.

Hunt was 3 or 4 players back and had belief so was chasing hard. It was great to see

I thought that was almost Hunt’s best game for the club. He’s creating a great understanding with Langdon and the crowd always lifts when he puts the jets on. His chase down and spoil of Henry (I think) was incredible, especially as he directed the ball straight to Brayshaw. I’d love to see a clip of that, as I didn’t get to see the TV coverage.

I  went on the AFL web site and watch the game I don't know if this is a new feature that anybody can watch games?

In the past you had to pay a fee.

By Coach:

  • 5/5 Petracca
  • 4/3 Gawn

The rest are obvious.  Again agreement on the top 2 but no agreement at all on the rest.  I guess it reflects the team effort and overall contribution by 22 players.

Leader Board

28 Taylor Walker ADEL
22 Max Gawn MELB
22 Jack Macrae WB
20 Clayton Oliver MELB

Trac is on 15 votes too.   Hes been so consistent polling in all 4  games.

Great to get a clean sweep of the votes, I thought Chris Scott would throw an encouragement vote at one of his players.

Am I reading this right, but one of the coaches rated Langdon a 3, whereas the other didn't even have him on his list

Correct.  The coaches votes split after Petracca and Gawn were:

  • 4/0 Oliver
  • 3/0 Langdon
  • 2/0 Lever
  • 2/0 Salem
  • 1/0 McDonald
  • 1/0 Pickett

Pure guess work as to which were Goodwin votes and Scott votes.  They certainly saw the game differently.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
