Greene and Himmelberg are major threats and need to be contained.

Other than that, their fwd line is nothing special, so if we bring the required attitude/hunger and at least break even in the midfield then weโ€™re a good shot at winning.

Would also love to kick more goals than behinds today.

The most MFC post ever.

I love it.

We should win this but like others have mentioned Iโ€™m still not sold that I can trust us.....yet!

GWS were awful last week and are missing 2 important players from that team. We get them after they played in 30c heat, long haul flight back from Perth, 1 day less preparation than us.

What could possibly go wrong ?

They are very similar to the pies I reckon.

Like the pies they are super focused on defence first football and contested ball.

But struggle to score enough to take advantage of any dominance they have. The pies should have never been at risk of being beaten by the lions.

I know it was wet, but similarly the giants had the saints on toast.

Neither team can put teams away.

I think it is a function of a game plan that involves too much slow transition, midfield that are past their best and average forwards, that are over reliant on individuals (degoey and to a lesser extent cox for the pies and greene for the giants).

Or what?ย

So many definitives.

They've already proven that they can kick copious amounts of points and still win... yep that's right, like all good teams, we can play poorly and still win

If the 'must's are about helping you relax during the game, then that's fair enough.

You have to snuff these types of games out early. The longer it goes with GWS in the game the more confident they'll get of notching their first win for the season. If we are fair dinkum this should be a clinical win by 8+ goals with us putting the sword to them by midway through the 2nd quarter.

My thoughts exactly, like North on Friday they will come hard early.

Any midfield with Ward, Coniglio, Kelly, Taranto,Hopper and Greene is going to be up for a fight

A fair bit of uncertainty in this thread.

We are favored to win but...ย ย

Aside from Kozzies work last week, the biggest take from the saints game was the maturity and confidence the boys displayed after the saints fought back in the 2nd.ย

When the umps and saints players wrestled back the momentum , our team huddled together.

I dont know what was said but judging from results I imagine it went along the lines of: we are better than this. .....we are better then them.....we know what to do.

Then they went and did it.ย

If they bring the same attitude today with their skills, then we should win comfortably.

Despite the opposition, if we notch 3 wins in a row with 2 key forwards not playing)ย then I believe we will certainly play finals.

Dees by 41.

The world has gone to hell in a hand basket Ernest.

I think the bombers smashing of stkilda last night showed that our win last week maybe wasnt as good as we thought.ย ย

ย

Why is this game in Canberra?

Neiher clubs home ground...not that gws have any fans anyway.

Given Covid and the lack of games for fans to go to....this should be at the G.

We had as many scoring shots as Essendon but they kicked straighter.

Big test IMO. We should win this game on paper and on form. That sort of situation doesn't usually bode well for us, but of course in 2018 the one thing we were reliable at was beating the bottom 10.

How many points doย we need to win by to go ahead of the Swans?

Live ladder says 17 Iย thought it would be about 50

Any thoughts?

BTW the team must capitalize on early shots we must have significant score board pressure

It's 17 assuming GWS don't score.

As they score, the margin will need to increase: currently we're +40 in points for/against, whilst Sydney is +109. So the more GWS score, the closer our margin will need to get to 60 to bridge that gap.

Kent, percentage is not just about winning margin. For example in round 1 you could score 3 points and your opponent 1 and you would have a percentage of 300. The next week you could win by 6 goals (72 to 36) and have your percentage drop. You would have a total of 75 for and 37 against roughly 200%. So the margin we require varies depending on how much our opponent scores. Generally speaking keeping an opponent to low scores is beneficial to percentage.

No triumphalist expectations from me. The results so far this roundย have been too wild.

Indeed, across the first two rounds we had 56 scoring shots. I believe the only sides to generate more in those two rounds were Sydney and Port (61 each).

Obviously if we keep kicking inaccurately it won't help so much, but we've been generating plenty of scoring shots, giving us good chances to win both games.

Time for the players to walk the talk. GWS will come hard. It's a great opportunity to make a statement.

ย

After watching the GWS game last week,ย I described them as a โ€˜rabbleโ€™,ย and predicted that only a poor attitude would bring us undone. Iโ€™ve revised that a bit as the week has progressed,ย because surely pride will drive them to do better after the hammering theyโ€™veย copped in the media (MFCSS?).ย ย I still favour us to win, but Iโ€™m a little nervous now. ย
Cheer loud and strong all youย Demonlanders coming toย Manukaย tonight!!!
