We'd also need a bit of HIbberd drive and penetration; come to think of it, right up forward, Mitch Brown would currently be useful and clever enough to kick a few, snatch a few, lead well taking defenders with him. The Melk should come in and Viney has been missed as his grunt can turn the midfield into a slaughterhouse. Petty and TMac rotate/swing CHF/ CHB and Tomlinson to the other wing. Do it!

I am struggling to understand all this Viney in and Sparrow out. Yes viney in the side but replacing Jones is a far better option.

As per usual, Fritsch escapes scrutiny

I’m sick of Fritsch making people post dumb things.

There you go, consider him scrutinised.

Conservatism reigns. As does mediocrity in performance outcomes. I wonder if these two conceptualisations are related in footy?

It’s alarming that we didn’t address our lack of outside run and pace in the off season.

Was a lack of outside run and pace really an issue for us yesterday?

I'm not sure it was. I'd argue our skill level was a bigger issue than our outside run.

Scrutiny for what?

FWIW I thought he was quite good yesterday. He's much more accountable defensively than he used to be, leads repeatedly, created chances and kicked 2 goals. And all that against a side that is geared towards defence before anything else.

If you are watching the saints game now.   Get a load of how much Ratten is invested in his sides win.

He actually  gets a little excited.   Wish our coach did !

A great way to keep playing badly is to keep making multiple changes for guys with little or no preseason

Great to see Fritta stick a couple of tackles yesterday. That's an improvement on last year.

What will Melk bring after 2 lean years?

only had ONE practice game and no form.

Wouldnt make all those changes  Not that necessary.

My impressions after watching the replay is that it was a solid performance. The roving to Max Gawn is an issue and though Rivers made a mistake or two, he takes the game on and he needs to be rewarded. I have reservations about Hunt, Sparrow and Harmes. If Viney and Hibberd and Melksham pull up okay after the Bullants hitout, I'd like to see them included.

Because he hits the scoreboard. Has kicked 8 goals in 3 games (albeit 2 practice matches) which puts him on pace for a 50 goal season.

Not a chance in the world you would even briefly contemplate dropping Fritsch and he’s certainly a player the opposition would be weary of.

JOnes and Jetta will not and should not be dropped. Jetta won a lot of 1:1s today and was very solid down Back

And Jones?

Agree on Jetta but I'd be dropping Jones for Viney. Harmes lucky.

I like Jones at HF. 18 touches, 6 score involvements. Didn’t have a Great game but we need experience in the forward line right now and he is a good kick

viney in for Sparrow or Harmes for me

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
