Essendon have officially requested their round 1 game to be transferred to the MCG.

Three outcomes if the AFL approves (which they never have in the past)

1) Our game remains as is. The Essendon V Hawks game is moved to Sunday.

2) our game gets moved to Sunday afternoon but remains at the G

3) Our game gets transfereed to Marvel for a 1:45pm Saturday game

Just to clarify BBP, are these outcomes your thoughts or was it mentioned elsewhere that’s how it will play out if approved?

7 sport ran with 2 games at the ‘G’ on Saturday as another possibility.

What a [censored] storm.

AFL should righgly reject Essendon request. If they don't and they move to MCG they will set nasty precedent for the remainder of the year.

All clubs and all fans are impacted. Essendon should sit down and put upm

Just when you thought you couldn’t hate that [censored] stain of a club anymore.

Essendon should have thought more when they championed their Marvel ( or whatever it was named in 2001 or thereabouts) Stadium as their base home venue.

If every game is altered because it may sell out and some people miss out then games will be on a merry go round fir these reasons as well as the potential of Covid to upset the Fixture.

FWIW the AFL have said they want the first 6 rounds Of the fixture to remain unchanged  ( Of course they say and do what they want When they want ) but I have a feeling this will create a rod for their own back if they compound for this reason alone.

There could be a whole new fixture looked at when really I feel it will only result in the 50% Figure at Marvel Mars and smaller venues ( if relevant) in other States being lifted during the early rounds or ASAP.

MFC should register their position  saying that their game should not be moved as a precedent for any reason given by EFC.

My thoughts.

They haven’t had an MCG double header since 1986. Can’t see it happening this year.

Essendon’s game could be at the G on Saturday night and it’s scheduled time of 19:45, our game would not have to be affected. But as earlier mentioned it sets a dangerous precedent, so stuff them.

Move them to Sunday arvo and put Giants/Saints on Saturday night then. Channel 7 may not be happy but oh well

If our game is moved I will be extremely angry - I've specifically organised my son's bday party for Sunday arvo so I can go to the footy for the first time in 18 months if they move us to Sunday I'll spew!!!

That could actually work really well.

GWS V St Kilda has the potential to be a good Saturday night replacement on Ch 7, plus channel 7 would still retain the Dons game on the 3:20 Sunday game.

If we get asked to move it should come with some MASSIVE concessions, all about the dollar dollar. First thought and hard belief is to 100% tell them to get stuffed, if they start down the "good for footy" path then they can buy the game off us, say $100K plus gate receipts from both games.

After all if it's just about what's best for footy then us getting our due shouldn't really matter right?

Really though, I'd want us to stay put.

So this could be the second season in a row that Essendon totally cooks our fixture.

It's a great big "how does get [censored] sound?" from me.

The debate should start and end in the same place: Essendon should [censored] off. They made their bed when they moved to Marvel and signed apparently a 25-year deal to do so, they can lie in it.

If the AFL is going to allow the request, the only fair thing to do is to play a double-header that day without touching our game (or at absolute worst, bring our game forward to 1.10pm to allow a bit more time between the two). Moving us to Marvel, or shifting our game to Sunday, or swapping Essendon-North with a Sunday game, creates unfairness for everyone else, as a result of a problem of Essendon's and the AFL's doing.

two bottom 6 teams or maybe even bottom 4 - let them play at Marvel

two teams that should play finals or be very close - play the G.

end of.

Fair enough, the AFL throwing a googly these days won’t come as a surprise though. I heard on radio this morning the MCC is open to the move pending AFL approval. Waiting game now I guess.

Essendon need to be ejected from the competition.  Should have happened when their whole club was found guilty of being drug cheats.

They are a cheating rabble who haven't won a final in 15 years and still think they're a top 4 power house.

There is a lot in play to make such a move.  As our home game, at the G, for the first time in 500 days there is a lot to give up if we shift.  If they want to change it, then it must come with benefits to us.  I have a schedule clash so would be happy to see it moved so I can attend, but understand the fear of being bent over again by the AFL as a bombers lackey because they want it.

In the end, Ess and Haw might be bottom 4 sides.  This could be an appalling spectacle.  Neither have earned the right to demand anything - so what are they going to give up to get this to happen?

Sorry buck, but the MFC should not even entertain any discussion at all.

In fact pert should take the opportunity to publically shoot this down today. Go on the radio or whatever and make it crystal clear there is no way we will move.

Doing so would sene a message to members that club understands the importance of this game, the first live proper game we can go to since 2019, being played at our spiritual home.

The message should there is more important things than money. As all the members who didn't ask for a refund last year know.

I expect only members would be able to attend the Essendon game wherever it is played, so moving it only allows more spectators rather than raising additional revenue for the club.

We’re just 1 of 10 sets of Victorian fans who desperately want to see their team play after a long absence.  Tribal hostilities aside, as a footy fan I want as many fans as possible to see their team. I expect our club to consider the greater good of the game in making their decision.

We’re not an island. There are broader considerations to think of. And i would expect a benefit or concession to be received in return.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
