Rita will attack anything written under an ABC Logo, even though she migrated from a war zone.
Very strange and twisted little person

"Right wing refugee" @Sir Why You Little.  It's important to recognise, whether you're on Demonland or coaching at the G, that there are two wings, not one.

A club that insists on using the expression "Side by Side" when its colours are black and white stripes was always headed for this sort of problem. I'm not trying to be funny here. Someone at the club should have foreseen the problem and canned the use of "Side by Side" in favour of something more integrated years ago.

They took 'Side-by-Side' off their website before trade week but not sure when exactly.  Since the change the website has shown  'Made by Many' as their mantra/motto, which seems a bit meaningless for a football club.  Sounds a bit too abstract for the typical Pies supporter.

It seems abstract for me LH let alone a pie supporter.

Luci, does it say "made by many" or "made by eddie"?

I'm shocked that Collingwood used such a divisive commentator to write a report for them. What were they expecting?

Behrendt once described fellow indigenous commentator, Bess Price, on twitter in disgraceful  terms:

"I watched a show where a guy had sex with a horse and I'm sure it was less offensive than Bess Price."

Charming

Exactly what it is. A left-wing activist paid to publish a report confirming her own biases. May as well have been Tim Soupy of the racism factory who did the write up.

The [censored] at Colonwood starts and ends with fat Eddie. He is the centre of their scummy universe and has escaped all of the criticism that other folks would get if they said the same things he has.

This is absolute rubbish. The person facilitating the report is exceptionally qualified to do so.

Pathetic comment.

The Emperor-as-president nature of Collingwood, and the 25 year tenure of it, means that the culture hasn't renewed as society has evolved.

That's an interesting point AOB - a valid one i reckon.

I was listening to a podcast (the excellent fivethirtyeight podcast) yesterday that made similar point about the republican party in the states ie the Republican party claim not to have a racism 'problem' but have essentially stood still on the issue for 20 years whilst the Democrats (and the society as a whole) have shifted considerably towards a greater acceptance of the reality and impact of systemic racism

It is great to see racism get called out. It is still alive and well in Australia and footy is just one example. Black footballers should not have to put up with this BS especially from their so called friends and fellow players

While it's not really meaningless, at least it's inoffensive. But it's not particularly inspiring, either.

You don't even try to hide that red neck of yours at all, do you?

I suggest we, as in Demonlanders, do something unusual as a group these days: Not fling insults.

Instead, why not have a reasonable discussion re the evidence?

I'm going to read the report first, and then comment. And while I'm reading, I'm going to analyze myself for biases either for or against the author, the club (especially the club) and the personalities within it, and people in general. Given some time and little compassion I reckon I should be able to come to a reasonable conclusion about the thing, based on the evidence...

It's interesting but a few on here are showing the same instincts as the racist attitudes that the report is trying to recognize and change. To label Collingwood supporters in such a manner has the same roots as racism. And before anyone gets too excited I do the same myself.

I sort of stopped labelling people when I got sick of the "get in your Range Rover and head off to the snow" comments. But I love the comedy that belittles the typical pies supporter so it's hard to change but I'm pretty sure it's the comedy and throw away lines that the indigenous players are sick off.

The first line is to put media spin on a report about racism, which had as a key finding that the club too heavily focused on media spin when dealing with matters of racism.

It's certainly not a great sign for their ability to deal with the issues presented in the report.

Eddie doesn't get it.

Edited by Axis of Bob

Systemic Racism  right through the top to the bottom of the Collingwood football club.  Appalling !  Eddie should resign ASAP he has taken the club to another low.  Why would he hang around till end of 2021 ?

A hidden culture.   Lie and deny.

Exactly why Eddie is resigning at the end of the year, might even come quicker.

Buckley will follow him both may even go at the same time.

I can not for the life of me fathom how the board thought it would be a good idea to come out the spin the report like that. It's now become untenable and the hounds will be barking much louder. Might as well as signed their death warrants on the way out, I can't see Eddie lasting much longer.

On a side note, Warnie would be proud if he could get that much spin back in his day.

If it wasn’t such a fkd issue it would be a laughable response from the president of that club.

“A proud day”... that a report was leaked, we didn’t release it/kept it under our hats since December, that shows our club was systemically racist and caused damage to indigenous and African decent players..”

Wow that is Trumpian at its finest.

Behrendt's stupid slur against Bess Price came at a particularly low moment for the Indigenous community, and particularly the NT one.

The 'Intervention' had just commenced and the bitterness over it was palpable and there was a painful divide in the Indigenous community.  On the one hand, people such as Price (coincidentally, from Yuendumu which we all recognise) were coming from a perspective of desperate need for major action to change the violence and abuse in many remote communities.  On the other hand there were many Indigenous people who saw a very familiar pattern where those communities had been left to rot, excluded, and not even provided the most basic services all Australians expect, and then when the inevitable crisis came the intervention stepped in and said, "You Aboriginal people can't take care of yourselves, so we're taking control."  Many of these communities had been the front line of the Stolen Generations and the 'orphanage' system which proceeded along much the same lines, so the horror was palpable.

Then, on the particular show that prompted Behrendt's tweet, Price made a bunch of pretty obnoxious comments basically saying various other Aboriginal people weren't really Aboriginal, and just stooges for chardonnay-sipping socialists etc etc.  It was all pretty ignominious.

I'm not really defending Behrendt's tweet because at the same time that it is understandable to be emotional and impulsively angry in that moment, it is also even more important to restrain it.

In general, she is a recognised expert in the field, a highly qualified and experienced lawyer, and also only one of two people handling the review.

Also, Collingwood picked her.

The important point here is; the legitimacy of the report is not diminished by one crappy tweet made by one of its authors nine years ago.  Let that one go.

It's funny for as long as everyone is sure they don't really mean it.   For example, you can insult Waleed Aly all you like as long as it is about Richmond supporter stereotypes!

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
