Love him or hate him you can admire him for the love he has for his club. To help his club when it was in financial trouble by becoming the President and building a solid foundation at Collingwood. Instigated and set up a home  for the club at the old Olympic swimming pool and with help from the state government a training ground close to the MCG which they  call home.

22 years as President I say Well done Eddie you went out help your club to survive and be viable. You certainly love your club.

To be fair to Eddie he did put his heart and soul into the job and turned things around for the pies when they were in real trouble. Kudos for that.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to have a club president that is a media personality as well. Port just about get away with Kochie and even he puts his foot in it too often. But hosting breakfast programs and commenting on matters affecting other clubs is fraught and left Eddie open to the charge of hypocrisy too often. Plus Collingwood issues were magnified because he was always asked for a comment when the better course of action was to lie low.

I prefer the Bartlett model of media engagement. Stay in the background and only speak in public on rare occasions e.g. the spray he gave the team post the Port abomination this year. He hit the right tone at the right time. Over do the media exposure and his words lose impact.

Great news, long time coming. My hatred for the filth may even subside a few % now.

5 grand finals in 22 years is something we could only dream of.

The easy argument is he should’ve called time around 2011 ish. A premiership, 4 grand finals, a home base and financial riches.

But he’s also guided in the Buckley era and 90 seconds from winning the 2018 flag. Their footy department has made errors since losing Balmey, that’s hardly a shock, and it’s time, but hard to be too critical.

Same goes for staying until the end of 2021. It’s disappointing for members that clubs aren’t democracies and boards get to handover power but a smooth transition works best if you get it right. And there’s not a single club that seems keen on elections anyway.

Agree DS. Clubs say how much they need members etc but they usually manage to ensure there is not more than one person standing to fill vacancies. Giving members a say is usually not high on the priority list. One reason is of course the cost of elections the main one IMO is to have no one on the board who is of a different mind.

I would love to be hated like they are instead of being pitied.

He did some good things, but he should have been removed after his “King Kong” reference. It was disgraceful, as was the Treloar contract

Absolutely, best comment so far, it was a cowardly disgrace

Make no mistake. There were sizeable forces out against him and he is saving face by announcing he is leaving in 12m.

My spies tell me The natives were very restless after the debacle on contracted players.

No suprise there.

Im just suprised that it didnt happen earlier.

You have a point however Eddie has his problems and can be outspoken.  He succeeded in acquiring. a permanent home base for his club and we are still searching.    Eddie got the job done and a Premiership in his time.

Hated his penchant for throwing stones at opposition clubs from his glass house.
In the end he's just become a parody, much like Jack Elliot.

I don't understand him referring his son/s finishing school as a reason for quitting his radio show & the filth presidency. As a parent, surely it's more important to spend time with your kids while they are at school?

He can go with love-child, Buckley whose contract expires next year.  No way they will make finals.

Coll power brokers can start working on getting Clarkson to the pies.  Of all the clubs that might be looking for a new coach next year Coll would be a juicy prospect.

Easy bingers like everyone in high office the family is the excuse used to cover up the really reason. Eddie got the message he was about to be pushed after the players payments disaster.

Not sure their player stocks are better than ours and would they honour a deal?

I don't think their playing stocks are better than ours but their list isn't really bad.  Its better than the Hawks.

And Pies facilities, financial strength, continuity and stability of sponsors, and membership are so superior to ours it isn't funny.

Just saw a photo of some people said to replace Eddie ( herald sun ) as next president. If I am not wrong one of them looked like John Brumby. LOL.

Who takes over the mantle as the most sexist, misogynist, bigoted, arrogant, egotistical and ignorant industry figure now?

I’m not a fan of Eddie the person or the personality, I think he’s one that hides poor comments behind the old “we were only joking”. But I have to tip my cap to him for the work he has done at Collingwood, let’s be honest if we had someone doing that for us we’d see him as a god.

I don’t have any issue with him saying he’s standing down at the end of 2021, unless the there is a clear succession plan that already exists they will need to make sure that whoever they get in will be fully up to speed and there really isn’t any reason to rush.

So long Eddie. ?

Kennett’s got that covered , I reckon.

Who will replace him as super villain now? Bugger all left in the game to vent at. Tom Lynch, Toby Green and Jeremy Cameron flying the flag. Ben Brown has been rehabilitated now that he with us.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
