Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Michael Christian: Yes. High impact. Severe outcome. Moderate intent. Forearm left out , not braced.
Ok that’s 3 weeks reduced to 2 weeks with early gulity plea

Gil: it was Paddy Dangerfield.

Michael Christian: sorry. NOT GUILTY.

Thumbs down to the Night Grand Final concept for me. I understand reviews are mixed on this but I don't think the spectacle provided justified it not did the AFL take advantage of any benefit to come from it. Was looking forward to DMAs but that was disappointing l. Who gets guest acts for their event to perform only 1 song that is a cover?

Excruciating wait for the game, whole thing is done around 11:30pm what can you do with that? Smarter thing would have been to trial twilight first. I'm sorry I know being a traditionalist counts for F all these days but last night felt like an NRL Grand Final to me which the AFL should be 100,000 miles away from right now.

Sacred day, different to any other day on the AFL calendar. A prelim at night is different to the GF at night. Everyone is different but it really feels the same as someone telling me that Christmas lunch this year will be moved to Christmas dinner. Just my thoughts, respectful disagreements welcome.

I enjoyed Borat 2 immensely. In fact, it was better than the first Borat. Hilarious. As a producer myself I admire how the hell he gets himself into these situations (and gets out of them).

Saw the second half of the game. Martin's last goal was absolute freak.

Wow. To me that was a clear raised elbow / forearm when he could have just braced for impact. Took one of their most important back men out of the game in the first 10mins. Completely deliberate imo and I was being generous with thinking he’d just get two weeks.
I guess the gloves will be off next GF then.

very glad the Tigers won despite Vlaustin being taken out of the game

If we ever get into a granny that's how I want our blokes playing.
No beg pardons.

I’d prefer to play like the Tigers.
Attack the ball hard and get the win

Might not have got the win but Isn't that what Dangerfield was doing?
And if it wasn't for Martin they probably would have.

All the time I was watching I keep thinking we are not within a mile of producing the intensity of this game. Anyone ( are you listening Mr. Bartlett ) who thinks we are a top four side is blinded by patriotism.

he attacked the ball hard and then raised his arm to take out an opponent, illegally imo

the Tigers convincingly beat the cats with a key man down, and played fair.

Yep perfect.
Though I thnk he was aggressively protecting himself.
Hard at the ball .... And the man.
On the ragged edge and I couldn't care less if a player steps over.
I'd have my warface on roaring like a madman just like I was when Whelan poleaxed Hird and Grinter shirtfronted Mew.
GFs don't come along very often and aren't for the fainthearted.

i think the thing that everyone forgets about that is that hird got up, dusted himself off, and was arguably bog

It seems Rich players deliberately did not attack Ablett's shoulder when he came back on.  Also when they formed the guard of honour for him to walk through each and every player removed their premiership medals.

Respect appropriately shown on and off the field.

Don't like Rich but credit where credit is due.

Credit where it's due you're correct.
I learnt Hird was alot tougher than he looked that day.
Rivers also could have finished him off when Hird come back on.
Had him wide open but let him off the hook.
1st year player at the time I believe.

Having said that Whelans hit and Trappers resulting long bomb also changed the momentum of the game.
We were having our pants pulled down till that very moment.

To be honest they didn't really need to attack Ablett after he returned to the field - he was visibly very sore and more of a liability than a threat - I suspect if it wasn't his last hurrah he would not have returned to the field

I got the impression at the time that he at first lowered his elbow to brace and then raised it again hitting Vlaustin.  Looking at it again, it's less clear. But if he was genuinely bracing only, why does his arm clearly extend after he hits Vlaustin?   Wouldn't it stay close to his own body?

Make no mistake.
The elbow to the face wasn't an accident.

Maybe but good sportsmanship nonetheless.

Maybe - or just smart. He was barely able to lift his left arm
If I was Hardwick I'd very happy to see him out there after the injury - if he was off the ground sure they would be down on rotations but I still believe it worked to Richmond's advantage him staying on the ground
A very disappointing end for him and Geelong

I recall Michael Long taking that approach in 2000. I'm not a fan.

Go in hard for sure, hurt your opponent sure. but go for the head and rule them out for the game?  no.

Longs was a dog act for sure.
I was more [censored] cause the game was well and truely over by then.
But when the heats on and there's a GF to be won ..... Get the gloves off and bring the pain.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
